This looked like so much fun lol -- I know these are capable, but it's so cool to see one get really used off-road like this, especially in stock form.
Dude doesnt even see the road infront of him where hes going, off course hes going to get stuck Worrying more about talking to the camera and has his seat all low This dude needs to go back to the pavement even if he owned a truck i see him getting stuck
I’ve watched probably over 1k off-roading videos (it’s my hobby I love cars), and this is the best video I’ve ever seen. Amazing, pumped to get my 2022 wrx in December!
I like seeing this with a stock car, I have a 2018 base model wrx and I’ve been thinking about making it off road worthy, seems like tires and a lift kit should do pretty well for what I want!
I had a 2015 WRX which I would abuse out in the country here in Australia. Sliding around every corner I could, narrowly avoiding potholes and so on. I don't know how to describe this properly so forgive me but the one thing that really damaged my car were these occasionals little trenches across the road, only about a foot in diametre but would stretch from one side of the road to the other. If I had to guess how they were formed I'd say that at a low part of a road, water would flow at the bottom across the road, eventually drying up & creating almost rock-hard dirt and a small trench that at times were hard to see until it was too late. One time I hit one so badly that it blew one of my coilovers and the entire wheel was bent on a crooked angle. If anyone is thinking of taking their WRX offroad then do so by first driving very carefully around the track so you know what's around corners, what's on the road and that sort of thing. WATCH OUT FOR THE LITTLE TRENCHES.
first time offroading / mudding in my new 22 wrx and it surprised me on how well it actually performed, though I'm definitely going to lift it and put better tires on it.
@@pkchar More tire sidewall to protect the wheel from getting dented or cracked by rocks, logs, or any other hard object you might drive over at high speed. Even potholes on the street can damage wheels. I'll never understand why "car enthusiasts" install large 19" or 20" wheels on their cars with very low profile tires. I guess they never plan on ever taking their car on a road with potholes or have fun on a dirt backroad. Not to mention that tires in those sizes are much more expensive than tires for normal wheel sizes like 16" or 17". I can only understand using extra low profile tires for a set of track specific wheels where the slightly improved steering directness and reduced unsprung weight are worth it, and all track tires are expensive anyways so the difference is less significant.
The best mod you could do for reliability would putting in an air oil separator if it doesn't already have one. Really helps prevent carbon build up in GDI engines which the FA20 is
WRXs 15'+ are way way way more reliable than you think they are and even more reliable then the STIs I have owned a wrx 2015 for 7 years now and the only issue with them is that they need more care and love than any other car mine has 90K miles and been abusing it lately but never missed a maintenance schedule... the difference with the wrx and sti is the smaller engine and especially the injection system sti got a stronger transmission and axles got stiffer suspension for a 11k$ more than the wrx so I believe that wrx are worth it if you intend to keep it stock
Deserves more views, those videos are rare to see mostly for the new genereation wrx. Would be interesting to see more how the torque vectoring works on the manual subaru with no x-mode like this car when off roading or in the snow
I did this kinda stuff with my model 3 when I traveled around the country and it handled everything like a champ. Funny enough the only time I bottomed out and damaged the bumper was in a Utah parking lot with a large drop off
More videos like this! That’s some great Sandhill habitat. Same stuff I work in driving my Crosstrek Sport, it eats that sand and mud for breakfast and kicks the back end out at will. Nothing like a subie off road on some loose surfaces
thanks for the vid - I admit I got my 2018 highcentered on a snow bank the first year I had it - walk of shame back to the house to get a shovel to dig it out :)
Just go ahead and modify man, the fa20 is A LOT more reliable than the EJ. This engine loves ethanol it really comes down to tune. Install what you want on the car and get it tuned from a reputable tuner and you’ll be fine. If you plan on staying on pump gas you can literally do whatever you want modification wise and never touch the engine block limit without a bigger turbo and even then unless you run something crazy like a 5858 or larger you’ll be well with in the limits
There are plenty of blown fa20 and the limit of the stock rods is well established. While the engine may be more reliable than the ej the transmission is not so be careful even touching 350 whp.
bro....... atleast lift and offroad tires. put some stronger bracing and you can fly thru those corners. lowered are street queens. raised are doin the dirty.
damn that thing performed BEASTLY for being on those tires. you wouldnt even need to lift it, if you put 215/65 17 A/T's on some base model wrx wheels it would bring the car up about an inch and give you about twice the traction.
Why do people hate automatics so much 😂 I really don’t see the problem I’m getting my 2022 wrx with a cvt and from what I’ve heard so far is that it’s super good

Ive been pro tuned since 12k miles and on ethanol since 30k. I daily drive my ‘19 for sales and it already has 110k miles on it. I do pulls regularly and drive my car to enjoy it (smiles per mile, not miles per gallon). I have yet to have a single mechanical issue. Ijs if you do it right the first time and you take care of your car it will last.

Is this the first time you have taken this on an UNPAVED road? this is not extreme off roading at all this is driving on an unpaved road. You also should learn how to navigate an unpaved road with the tires you have and the height clearance the car has. Me either, but at least he’s using the car for what it’s worth. It has rally/off-road DNA.

WRX’s are actually really good on lifted suspension. I know most people slam them. But building a more traditional rally spec would be ideal for sure
Nice car and nice video. These cars are in fact very reliable and hold there value. You may even end up pulling your buddy out of the mud!

maybe a rally/off road skid plate
return to these same roads and retry :D
