    If you want to go one step further with the DIYing, you can make 2 large "U" shapes out of PVC and connect them them together. I used 50cm long 40mm diameter clear PVC pipe. The construction holds roughly half of a canister. Doesn't look pretty but it is a way more efficient way to use all of the media. One filling lasts about 3 months for my tank (with lots of CO2 in the air!). :)

    Hey. Thanks for the helpful video. How long does one one refill usually last you before exhausting?

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      totally depends on your environment, the power of your skimmer and the media you use. At a rough estimate - 2-4 weeks

  • @pwidmer
    @pwidmer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Other possible downsides are that if you pull too much water/condensation into the cartridge you can fluidize it then dump that very high ph solution into your tank, alternatively if you let the media exhaust this could cause your ph to drop quite a bit and screw up alkalinity consumption enough to cause an alk to spike. Neither of these are deal breakers imo, which is why I run one.

    Trying to break the record for newest comment on oldest video :)...... but in all seriousness, is there a point where PH could ever get "too high". My PH runs at about 8.5 / 8.6 without any scrubber, and I'm wondering if its a case of "Higher is always better" or if my range is such that I don't need to add a scrubber.... Thoughts more than welcome !

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow that is exceptionally high! I would question the device measuring it, but if indeed is that high - I wouldn’t worry.
      Seems ph stability is more important, but I’ve never been too stressed about level or consistency and my coral has always grown pretty quickly 😅

      Totally. Certainly didn’t mean any criticism.
      If you happen to know anyone working in a hospital, you might be able to get access “expired” adsorbent. I had a surgeon client who was getting the stuff they were chucking out for free.
      It’s used in anesthesia and expiration for medical purposes still had plenty of life for the aquarium. It was the color changing stuff, which is handy.

    Not a great idea to use sofnolime. This shit is bad.
    When any significant amount of water comes in contact with the absorbent medium, it creates a highly corrosive alkaline-based liquid containing calcium or sodium hydroxide. A caustic cocktail can turn a good day into a really ugly one.
    Not only this, you didnt mention that this should be for people who use an apex or ph probe.
    Yes its great to lower your Co2 however this will increase your PH hand Alk consumption.
    Because you arent using a colour changing media designed for reef tanks you can cause several catastrophic events.
    1, the caustic nature of the product wipes your tank out
    2, you dont know when the media is exhausted making your ph plummet and cause an alk spike wiping your tank out.
    You should only use colour changing media as this will prevent the issues you face using pure Sofnolime.
    Plus, the reactor disnt cost you $5, really bad click bait.
