I'm so here for this. I hate wearing super structured collared shirts underneath anything but love the look, so detachable collars are the way to go. And there's historical precedent for it too.
I have a small sewing business and someone asked me if I could do these and I said “sure!!” Without even actually knowing how to make them 🤭 you saved me, this video is amazing !!!💗
Thank you so much for the patterns! I'm just getting back into sewing and I am loving your tutorials. It's awesome that so many that are actually achievable for someone who is just learning. I only discovered you yesterday and I have 3 of your projects saved to attempt already.
Hey there! I just wanted to say that your channel is freaking amazing, some of the projects (like the Selkie inspired dress) literally make me drool out of happiness at the very thought of trying them out, your explanations are very clear and it's really nice that you also show stuff that doesn't necessarily work like you wanted it to the first time. I adore your work.
Fabulous! Been looking for this instruction for a year! BTW at the end of the white collar portion (11:50) describing adding an extra piece to the bottom of the collar... made me think, please Ally, do a tutorial on dickies! Very common thing in the mid-1960's and so many styles could be bought. Dickies can be like the collars you made or even turtkenecks. You are very talented.
The all black outfit is totally giving me RBG vibes! 🙌🏻✊🏻🙌🏻 So cute. Thanks for the tutorial, I’m going to try but adding the rectangle you mentioned so they don’t look too much like collar necklaces :)
Brillant idea. You gave me an idea of how to change a day dress into an evening dress (that can switch back). To get a pattern, I folded the dress at the front of the v-neck and outline it; then same to back collar. (1 1/2inch wide) I sewed a rhinestone tape sandwiched just like you did with the lace. Only difference I have sewn snaps on the inside of the dress and collar (material in on the inside) so it snaps on and only a tiny margin of the gold satin material shows but all around is a edge of rhinestone bling.
oh this is so lovely! It'll be perfect for the middle of spring where it's getting hot, but it's still cold so you don't want too many layers!! I can't to do these!! >w
I love it ! Your video eas nice to watch, you look so happy and enjoy what you do. Also I would like to try some of them, not sure where to get these patterns, or maybe you can explain how to make own pattern by measure of the neck. :)
Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for. I'm making memorial bears and the shirts I'm using came with collars but they're unusable because of the way it was sewn on or they're stretchy cuff material. I'll be using collar 3 for the bears but all of them are amazing.
I was looking for a tutorial like this for soo long💖 love your vibe and how you explain what you're doing, i instantly subscribed! Also, the "pretty sides" thing you say instead of "right sides" its the cutest ever 😔💖💖
I so enjoyed this! Great job! I had a couple of questions, tho. Why did you choose not to draft the pattern so that you put the collar back on the fold and have it be in one seamless piece? And why can't the larger collars be worn reversed as well, with the ties or hook in the back? Thanks!
Maybe I'm just a little confused today, but I'd love to see a more detailed tutorial or blog post about how to extend Collar 3 with the squares of fabric
Hi Ally, Quick Question, what seam allowance do you use on the 3rd collar - on all the rest is a 1/4 of an inch and i was wondering if i should use that one? Thanks alot!!
I usually use a 1/2" seam allowance by just lining up the edge of the fabric with my presser foot. For something like collars though it doesn't have to be exact😊
Hi ☺️ Thanks a lot for sharing this video 💕 I would love to recreate Collar 4 but cannot seem to access the link to download the pattern. Grateful for any assistance. Thanks 😊
Really great video but something I would recommend is having you camera facing over your hands when your doing the pining/laying o it of the pieces just some we can get a good look and make sure we did it properly
“pretty side” is so much more helpful than “right side”, thank you!! amazing tutorial as always 💖
Yayyy!! I’m so glad!!😄
That chalkboard mural is the dopest thing I ever seen
Thank youuuu!!☺️ I’m in the process of switching it up rn so keep a lookout!👀
I'm so here for this. I hate wearing super structured collared shirts underneath anything but love the look, so detachable collars are the way to go. And there's historical precedent for it too.
Wait, why have i not seen this anywhere else? Its so smart! I’m definately going to try this♡

Thank you so much!!💛✨
Hi!! What do you call that thin white cloth you used? Im a beginner, sorry 😞
The thin fabric I used is called a rayon fabric, but pretty much anything will work for this project!✨
We had detachable collars in the late 50’s and 60’s.
How far do you insert the ribbon ties? It looks like an inch or so, but I'm not sure.
this is the smartest thing ever. slaying as usual ally ! 💗

HOW DO YOU ONLY HAVE 4K SUBSCRIBERSSSSS
Very pretty but won’t the inside seams fray after washing and wear ?
Thank you! No they won’t fray because there are no raw edges!✨
Simplesmente...Espetacular...Magnífica
i know this is not about the video but you look like Anne frank on this clothes, its amazing
quick question- do i have to use the interfacing?
No you don’t have to, but it just makes the collar a little thicker!✨
