I'm german and a huge fan of scotland (been there 17 times and next month i will bee there again😊) so of course i love the country and the people. The sound of bagpipes gives me goosebumps (in a good way)😅

seeing the Scotland Fans in Germany makes me want to visit Scotland soon :)
As a German, I listened to the bagpipe march through Cologne for about 6 minutes at maximum volume through headphones and you know what? Not only did I have goosebumps all over my body, no, tears actually ran down my face because it moved me so much.. ❤

I remember seeing the video of the scot jumping into the rhine for the first time and getting a heartattack for a second. As someone who grew up in Colonge we get taught from young age that the rhine is indeed a quite dangerous river with strong currents under the surface... but other than that, every video of the scots in germany is just pure joy :)
EDIT: I think Colonge and Scots are such a perfect match because (for one reason) Colonge is very, very, very proud of their "Kölsche"-Music, which always had many bagpipes in it. Even when theres no EUROS, its not uncommon to see bagpipe-musicians on Colonge streets.

@@la-go-xy spent half my life kayaking and the Rhine is a river not to mess with. Huge volume flowing fast, and you don't know what's just under the surface. I'm 50 next year and will be returning to Cologne to take a match in.
The Scots were the best fans I've ever seen here in Germany.

Everybody likes the Scots! There was one Fan who cleaned up a Park and said he did it, because Germany let them celebrate so nicely.

The Scottish Fans have been and in fact still are an absolute Blast! In fact, as a Bavarian with a Dialect that most other German Speakers don't understand i feel like i bonded with the Scottish especially, since they have their own unique Accent in English that a lot of English Speakers have Issues with understanding haha
Let me put it this way: The Scottish were so funny and great to get drunk with but also respectful of Geman Etiquette, i'd trade a lot of Germans for Scots in a Heartbeat!

The last bagpipe song was also the melody of the popular "Du...(bes die Stadt)" by the Cologne band Bläck Fööss. A very heartfelt tribute to the hosts and a tune linking the Scotts and Germans. ❤️❤️❤️

the last tune is Highland Cathedral which has soared to world-wide popularity since it was written by two German composers, Michael Korb and the late Uri Roever, in 1982. Some in Scotland have tried to write words to it for a new national anthem. It is not just Scots who have been inspired to come up with words for the tune. Korb points out that a German writer, Werner Bonfig, has also written words - titled "Stand Up Again". The city of Cologne, he says, has been interested in using it for its own anthem. Roever’s widow has every sympathy with those Scots who would like to adopt Highland Cathedral for their own. "We would certainly give our blessing to this becoming the national song of Scotland because it has touched so many people in so many ways".
I live in Cologne and discovered during the European Championships that Scots are the more polite version of English people. While English fans are only rude and drunk at some point, Scots keep being nice, even when very drunk.

As a german Fan of Scotland, I was totally happy to have some scottish culture brought to Germany 😊 The Scots have been so friendly and peaceful, and it's nice to see how proud and patriotic they are! 'Flower Of Scotland' is one of most beautiful anthems I know! And the sound of bagpipes - man, I love it, either played by scots or played at one of the medieval markets here in Germany! The best is, to have both: when Soar Patrol playes at MPS-Market for example.. 😊 ..ALBA GU BRÀTH!! 😎

the scottish fans are always so much fun. Always singing and party. maybe some get to much good german beer. But in most Germans love bagpipes. I always get goosepumps when i here some bagpipes playing.
Here in Hamburg are sometimes a bagpipe player in the city pedestrian zone. I always gave him a euro or so. And you can here him a long way down the street. I bet theres no one not touched by amazing grace on a bagpipe.
But i bet that one guy is still on the escalator...
Fun fact: The hymn of the Cologne football team (1. FC Köln) is based on the scottish folk song "Loch Lomond". Its title is "Mer stonn zo dir, FC Kölle" for everyone who wants to check it out. :)
And yes, there are multiple things that make it very dangerous to swim in the Rhine, especially ships, vortices and whirlpools, and the high speed at which the water flows downstream.

There are those who want to adopt Scotland as the 17th federal state of the Federal Republic of Germany. This is a first-class statement of friendship and trust ❤
A German satirical online magazine published articles about Scottish fan doing heroic things in Germany like saving children from a burning orphanage or finishig overnight a railroad construction project that has been going on since 14 years and finding the legendary amber room, all while being drunk. I kinda believe it's not impossible :D I also love bag pipes they make me so emotional as if I had hidden Scottish genes or something. The only encounter with Scottish fans I had was on the Saturday morning after the game against Germany. It was on a heavily delayed train in the morning, they were already drunk but very relaxed and in the greatest mood. Class people indeed!
We need a national holiday, the "beer and whiskey day" which is exactly that. A day for Scots and Germans to simply party together.

I love bagpipes! The seriousness of it, when they are showing their unique culture. Scots have been stereotyped all over the world (in a good way!), also in Germany: kilts and bagpipes (and shortbread...!) and it turns out to be true. I really enjoy hearing bagpipe music. I also went to a scottish Music Festival in Germany recently, it was fantastic. The Scots have a great culture and I would love to visit Scotland soon. Fun fact: Munich pubs ran out of beer while the Scots visited for the opening game in Munich's Allianz Arena. Made the headlines in local Bavarian papers.

years ago me and 2 friends where in the local pedestrian area and saw a bagpiper making street music in that moment we split up one got to the supermarket get like 20 beers the next to the bratwurstvendor to get some of those and the next to the atm to get cash to buy some of the guys cds ... we spend the half afternoon there

During my stay at a US university, there war a tradition of the Scottish and the Finland scientist to have a beer party. The Germans were also invited ... I had so much fun (and beer).

For one or two weeks I met them literally everywhere. Any street or behind any tree there were those three scots, big bellys, short hair, around fifty, smiling and politely greeting or at least nodding like it was their hometown. I miss them already.

Pipes n drums give instant goosebumps. One of the first instruments i heard after the floodings of 21 in the Ahr valley, has been a bagpipe, it was so moving.

I love the bagpipes. There is a parade once a year where I live, and there is usually one troupe of bagpipers and they are my absolute favorite.
You gotta LOVE the Scots ! even when drunk as f_ck they seem peaceful and funny. i welcome all Scrots, all Irish, all Dutch to Germany ! Just be peaceful, drink and laugh with us.
I’m British first, regretfully English second. I Never admit to being English, and always add I’m from the North if asked, unashamedly trying to distance myself from the Metropolitan elite.
I do have a wonderful Glaswegian grandson though., Really proud of him, so happy my son went to Glasgow University and stayed there. I think of myself as an honorary Scot. I love Scotland and its people.

The overall championship is starting to annoy me though; weird referees, unfair gameplay and thousands of yellow cards. Not very fun to watch and Spain wasn't that impressive either.

Well, about the bagpipes,...there are actually around 70 - 80 pipe bands here in Germany, we have even pipe band competitions here. In the north: Peine (near Hannover), in the east Trebsen (near Leipzig), in the south Angelbachtal ( closest big City is Heidelberg) and in the west Goch (closest big City is Duisburg).
I believe the marching band shown at 3:10 is the Stuttgart University Pipes & Drums 😍
My cousin was stationed in Germa y in the 70s he said the Germans were more Scottish than him

Hello from Germany and yes, I would like to see more of Scotland. The fans and team brought a lot along to make this event a special one. To see how joyful and good spirited people they are was fun and heartwarming. Even if I would suggest to better not jump into a river like the Rhine… especially from a bridge while some could pass out before they even feel the water. 🤭 I still try to figure out whether I would have to say “Prost!” or “Gesundheit!”.

As a fan of medieval rock I really enjoy the sound of bagpipes. I can't even explain why, it just sounds so... powerful and ancient, I guess?😂 It just sounds amazing, no matter if you listen to it on it's own or combined with other instruments.

german and i love bagpipe music! its exactly like you said, its special and wonderful, and it just grips me in a way that no other music does. whenever i hear it randomly i go and listen and pay the player. a few days ago, the tartan army were participating in a parade of Schützenvereine (basically associations of people who shoot rifles competitively as a hobby, pretty long historical tradition here in germany, uniforms and loads of local chapters, all that stuff) and they played scotland the brave and i heard it from the underground station close by and bolted to catch it. its so rare here that ill take everything i can get, especially if its like a whole group. i even got a video :D
It's funny... commonly there are kind of not-so-nice views on "Da Brits" by "Ze Germans" in general. Especially that "Brits are arrogant"-thingy. But most Germans love the Scots. Apart from the old "Scots are greedy"-stereotype I never heard my fellow Germans talk bad about our scottish friends ^^

I do love me some bagpipes (Dudelsack or Sackpfeife in German) :) There's some darn cool German bands that include them in their regular line up (not just Kölsch bands, but also like Folk/Medieval Rock/Metal bands ,e.g. Saltatio Mortis) ❤
Along this video I had a big smile upon my face. It is always very pleasant to see people cheering, laughing, singing and enjoying their lives. The Scots were very popular during the EM in Germany, every paper praised them for their friendliness, their humour and their good mood and manners.*cough Scots: we love you!!! Please come back as soon as you can.😂

The Tartan Army were voted the best fans of Euro 2024. The annual Scotland, Germany friendly sounds interesting, I saw that one year it'll be Hampden, the next year a stadium in Germany.
Germany is a good place for events like EURO or World Championships. I don't know why, but as soon as hordes of international fans enter the country the party starts. What is it? Our relaxed police? The beer? Many of us germans get infected every time, become party animals and when everybody goes home we return to being typical germans. This is so crazy, but great fun every time. Maybe we should host "The european friendship games" every few years so we don't need to buy the expensive UEFA Events, more money for party... 😁

We're in the middle of everything, have good booze, can organise shite and people know it, I think that's the reason. The responsible dad who organises stuff for his wild children. 😄
But we should learn not to worry so much, I think even we Germans can do that. The other Europeans probably support that too. 😁
EUFA doesn't care about the real fans who they fleece dry at every opportunity and their only concern is the well being of the "blazers" (all the yes men in various European Football Associations) and corporate guests. 😢

We kind of are a match made in heaven, no? I'm literally one of the personifications of this love, because my Da was from Inverness and my Mum is from Flensburg, Ex-British Occupation Zone, Germany and I grew up about 70% of my youth in Germany and 30% in Scotland, so I hit the jackpot - I can be proud either way, because they technically all are "my people" and I will "win" either way. 😂
There btw is a video by talkSPORTS about the German fans taking over the cities as well. Just saying, this time I watched it in full length.. Just to make sure there's nothing like the accidents in the previous ones. That was my bad. 😅
