That's awesome. Great restoration. Looks brand new! I thought my memory was wrong for years cause the very first MK3 cabinet i played on had the 6 hit Sub-Zero combo at 30% then it wasn't til afterwards i noticed on home consoles it was 23% and then in the arcade it was 23% too. Glad i am not crazy anymore! I must of been playing on a early version of MK3 back in the day.
I ran an Arcade in Minneapolis during this time that had a test unit and unless my memory is faulty, our 1.0 had that Daughter Board before I was sent the next revision. Also massive props on the Restoration work
I do remember playing MK3 revision 1.0 in the arcade and I remember a lot of the fatality inputs were changed in later revisions. Also revision 1.0 had a lot of 100% combos.
The "Sub-Zero wins" screen seems to pass much faster than usual on the first rounds. Almost like when Shao Kahn destroys you on later versions, I always noticed it was fast. I love the build Mike! I'm not a huge MK3 fan but I love that cabinet's look.
I do remember some early MK3 from my teens, I remember some fatalities missing and some inputs changing as well from the earliest ones I played. I do remember the Sub-Zero nerf too, from 30% to 23% so we all did the 5-hit for 26% instead, the AI/CPU never got the nerf tho when they did it to you, cheatin bastages! lol. I pry still have some stuff saved from way back, I'll dig and see what I can find move wise, I do remember some just not being there but others having different inputs early on. Cool vid as always Mike!
I played MK3 when it first came out in castles and coasters in phoenix. The operater told us it was a prototype at the time and each week or so he was changing chips and many of the moves had changed or fatalities added but it always said 1.0. You should be right about it. I may have a strategy guide at my parents hous with what you could do on the different versions at hte time. Gameaqs seems to have scrubbed all that old stuf years ago.
Great video as always Mike! If this is indeed 1.0 it's really interesting! Different hit reaction when you try to jump over Sindel's scream is pretty interesting! Does the stage order begin at The Bank, or was that just where it was when you started filming?
Cool stuff I’d love to get into something like this! Love Mortal Kombat and want to build a MK1 Arcade Cabinet! Where do you find the decals and artwork for these cabinets?
Mortal Kombat 3 Arcade "Prototype" Cabinet Project - Revision 1.0? Looking at life through the eyes of a tire hub Eating seeds as a pastime activity The toxicity of our city, of our city
I’m having flashbacks to 1995 of a 10 year old me getting my ass kicked by the AI in this game. That is of course, when the teenagers that looked like they were 7 feet tall and built like Schwarzenegger would let me play 😂.
All right, just gonna throw my two cents in. According to The Cutting Room Floor : Revision 1.0 _does not_ have Shao Kahn's death animation, it isn't there until Revision 2.0 - making me suspect this is later than Revision 1.0 - however... In Revision 2.0, during the credits, the name "Antony Espindola" was added under "Many Thanks Go To" - that name is missing from the credits in the footage you showed here. Also, is it just me, or is Shao Kahn's death animation here...a bit shorter, and not as flashy/noisy at the very end? That might just be my imagination, though. Now, aside from these two things on TCRF... I can't find any footage on TH-cam for MK3's Attract Mode in Revision 1.0 - I only seem to find the final release - but it _does_ have some different text on one of the story cards (that I saw, I won't swear I didn't miss any, but this is what I did catch), compared to what you showed here. In the final release: "The ultimate advancement in Lin Kuei tech- nology comes with the creation of the first cyber-assassin. They begin converting their human ninjas into soulless machines. But Sub-Zero refuses to take part and is marked for death by his own clan." In the footage shown in this video: "The Lin Kuei ninja clan have long been improving their technologies. The ultimate advancement comes when they develop the first cyber-assassin. They begin converting their human ninjas into soulless machines. But Sub-Zero refuses to take part and is" I presume the game itself cuts that text off and doesn't display it, not that the monitor isn't showing it properly - but just to say, the phrasing _is_ different, and I'm guessing too long for the game to show correctly, and so that's why it's phrased differently in later revisions. I also noticed a difference in Cyrax's bio card. Final revision: "Cyrax is Unit LK-4D4. The 2nd of three proto- type cybernetic ninjas built by the Lin Kuei. Like his counterparts his last programmed com- mand is to find and ter- minate the rogue ninja, Sub-Zero. Without a soul, Cyrax goes undetected by Shao Kahn and remains a possible threat against his occupation of Earth." In the video: "Cyrax is Unit LK-4D4. The 2nd of three proto- type cybernetic ninjas built by the Lin Kuei. Like his counterparts his last programmed com- manedis to find and ter- minate the rogue ninja, Sub-Zero. Without a soul, Cyrax goes undetected by Shao Kahn and remains a possible threat against his occupation of Earth." It's just a typo, "com- anedis" should have been "com- mand is", but it is still a difference! ...gameplay wise though, I doubt I could contribute much, I've always been a purely casual MK player, not nearly familiar enough with inner workings or 'expert play'. But I can at least say I spotted those differences, anyway, for you, and for anyone who would be curious!
Im 95% certain this is the launch version. Similar to mk2 1.0 launch and mk4 1.0 launch. It will be missing most content. I think, sindel, kabal, sekto and cyrax had animalities. IIRC, this is also the version if you do kabal animality without no mercy. The game soft resets. And yeah, sub zero was insane in this version due to ice clone. He had ridiculous corner traps and 90-100% corner combos
I have the original v1.0 ROMs that came with my MK2 machine. Cool that the machine was virtually untouched by the operator I got it from (original owner) but not so cool that the game was incomplete.
@scaleitback1055 different sounds for characters amd the announcer will say "ugh, so PHAT" or "that's DA BOMB" after a combo. One stage doesn't have music but that'd likely a bad EPROM.
Talkin’ about revision 1.0, does somebody know kung lao and sonya fatalities? If you play mame and activate auto fatalities, at least kung lao have his 2 finishers

BEAUTIFUL! 😍😍
Crazy one time I picked up a golden tee in a MK2 cab. Used paint stripper to bring out the original artwork. Was a fun project.
Ultra Combo!? 23:57
18:03 love how quick the early versions did that. They said. No delays unless it’s flawless LOL
Blasphemy to convert KI2 to golden tee who ever did that lol
Smeggin awesome conversion Mike !
When I first played it in the arcade it needed an update right away because you could do a Subzero deep freeze mid match that would not leave.

This is excellent!
Beautiful job.
Heck yeah! Glad you’re still posting great content bro! 😎

Howdy! Fine snowy morning, eh?

Holly moly where have you been brother?
would you be able to have the roms dumped? it'd be so cool to poke around in them to see if there's any unused content we haven't come across yet ;w;
Try with jax run run run blk lk for the fatality if i remember correctly
I wonder how many arcade revisions of MK are undumped out there. The MK4 I have is different from every other version of the game I have played.
How so?

@@mostverticalproductions4808 please show a video of this
See if the stage finishers work with foward foward foward run . I remember seeing it back in a old gamepro back in the day
For all characters?
@ yes
lool you got skills homie
I really want this
Where can I get those decals?
Talkin’ about revision 1.0, does somebody know kung lao and sonya fatalities? If you play mame and activate auto fatalities, at least kung lao have his 2 finishers
According to TCRF Sub-Zero can freeze Motaro in Rev 1.0
Oh? Dang. I didn’t even try.
