    You are exactly right. I found this out the hard way after sharpening for the first few times on a fixed system. Especially on my hawk bill knives. 25 degrees in the center of the blade WAS NOT 25 at the tip. I experimented over a few sharpening sessions and intuitively came to a similar solution used here. Wish I had seen this prior to, or even considered it prior to my first sharpening on these systems.

    My experiences line up with yours as far as clamping! I get better results with it clamped that way vs aligning with the imaginary line!

    I was wondering if there's any way you could show us what that looks like clamped from overview you have an angle view here and makes it hard to see how it really is clamped in the system an overview would be nice if not no worries thanks for your videos they help

    Does depth placement in the clamp matter?

    • @GunnysSharptalk
      @GunnysSharptalk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry I completely missed this. Depth placement changes your angle overall but not the angle difference from heel to tip as long as the tip is pointing in a parallel direction as the front of the clamp

    You don't have to do it I found another video of yours where it shows the tip parallel with the clamp and centered on the clamp I understand I see how you do it now thank you for your help

      Awesome. That’s why I tried to explain it in a couple different videos.

    I watched the video twice, Just to make sure I understand it’s hard to tell from angle of the clamp and knife in the video, it appears that the handle of the knife is pulled towards you more than the tip of the knife In order to get the sharpened bevel the same all the way across the blade is this correct? So you do not keep the bottom of the blade parallel to the clamp? Most of my knives are dropped points. So the steeper the drop point the more of an angle you should mount the knife into the clamp with a handle facing you closer than the tip? Or is it the opposite tip should be closer to your body than the heel of the knife?

      For most knives if you draw a line from the tip to the pivot and keep that line parallel with the front of the clamp you are good. Or on fixed blade draw a line or imaginary line from the tip to the first pin.

    Why does the audio in all your videos start off inaudible?

    Hi Gunny, thanks for that golden nugget of wisdom. I have been struggling with the quality of my knife tips on guided systems. To be clear are you saying when you place the knife in the system you check the angle at the tip and the middle of the blade to keep it close to the same? That would make sense to me. Also where can I find the 3 micron gunny juice? I checked Omaha knife and gritomatic with no luck. It was odd jendes web site advertised gunny juice but when I click on it it showed there product. In there description it said (like gunny juice) I guess that’s marketing but kinda miss leading. Man if you did a video on the tsprof that would be great there is not a lot of them out there.
    Much appreciated,
    Eddie

      Thanks. I can do a video on the TSPROF. And as far as Jende I guess it’s a marketing thing. Tom never mentioned it to me. I have no hard feelings about it though. Gunny Juice will be in at Omaha Knife and Gritomatic with all micron sizes available. And no I don’t usually check the angle at the tip. Just the middle of the blade. I just did that in the video to explain that the angle changes, but the way I clamp accounts for that. Allowing that angle change gives and even bevel width all the way down the bevel.

      talk yeah I didn't mean for that to sound offensive, I love it, looks like it has many good miles on it! Are you the creator of Gunny juice diamond spray?

      No worries man I didn’t take it as offensive. And yeah I created Gunny Juice.

      @@GunnysSharptalk oh wow that's cool, my buddy swears by your stuff and I will be trying it soon. I have never used a diamond spray before and I have been searching for good ones to try, I wanted to order gunny juice but at the time gritomatic was out of stock, so I had to go with some stuff called hand America for now. Its still in the mail, I'm hoping I didn't waste my money.
      Anyway, I'm glad I found you channel, I just subscribed and been watching all your older stuff, keep up the good work!!

      Awesome! Hand America isn’t bad, but Gunny Juice is drastically different. If you have sharpening questions you can always message me on FB too. Scott Gunn.

    An even bevil is way more important to me.

      @GunnysSharptalk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. That’s actually how most knives are designed. They’re designed for an even bevel not an equal angle down the bevel.

    Wow! It's just sharpening a knife!! Not rocket science!!!
