Do you share any of our post-production tips/techniques? :) See the first episode of Making a Film Company season 4 here: th-cam.com/video/HEQUo7KtRKg/w-d-xo.html We have 2 spots left for our film workshop this June! andyax.com/film-workshops/ Thanks to Tourbox for sponsoring this video! www.tourboxtech.com/en/
The value in this video is insane! I can watch a thousand tutorials on Skillshare or here, but nothing can equate sharing REAL tangible insight from working professionals. Thanks a whole lot, really.
Love the video! One thing that’s significantly sped up our workflow is using “compound clips” in Resolve. It’s been a real game changer for us. We use a pancake timeline method and then “compound” each clip with a keyboard shortcut we assigned. This gives us just one video and just one audio track to play around with (maintaining the audio and or video tracks safely inside it in a kind of meta data Russian nesting doll - if that makes sense). Then when we reach the sound and color mixing stage we right click on the compound clips in batch and select “decompose” in place and get all those tracks back - super helpful with clips that have multiple mic tracks etc. Love the vid! Thanks for sharing!
One thing I noticed in your folder structure was that you had the date in the normal order and after the general folder name. Example: "Chemical processing plant 14.08.23" If you flip the numbers (year first etc.) and put them at the beginning, you will always have your date marked folders first and in calendar order when sorting alphabetically. I would also use full years to avoid confusion and any Y2K type problems in 76 years. Example: "2023.08.14 - Chemical Processing Plant"
This video will always be in my head and my heart❤amazingly explained and really inspiring. Loved it so much. Thank you to all the team for the hard work put in every of your videos!
Never missed a video..And this is the first time u went deeper into post production workflow..didnt know u could timecode videos..Life saver .,absolutely my favourite..Please more post production workflow videos..I would watch hours of this..Thank u so much andyax and vius Team❤
You got me inspired to start documenting my own process in building a production company. You are still well underrated on youtube, for the value you provide. Great job on the educational and insightful videos you put out there. To my surprise, except the shortcuts which are customized to our team's preferences, we are having quite a similar workflow. I always start with a timeline where I do all my cuts and color code them. I found really useful the client part, to make a concrete contract with them. I have one client who asks for changes for every single video (they are reels for social media) and is super annoying. Gladly I managed to talk to the client and we agreed to new terms of the our collaboration to reduce the time waste in our production. Thanks again for all your effort to educate fellow creators.
OMG amazing video, I am so grateful I follow y'all. I get MOTIVATED when I watch your content. Congrats to all the team. Hope some day we meet and share filmmaking experiences and projects!
Thank you for an excellent introduction to the production process within your company and the suggestions that you feel helps make your work flow more efficient. I look forward to future videos that you produce!
A really great, cheap and easy way of having tons of accessible shortcuts is using an MMO mouse like the G600. It has 12 buttons that can be doubled to 24 in functionality by holding the G-Shift button with your ring finger. And you can program and switch between as many modes as you want :D
Excellent video. The technical aspects were beautiful, the edit was fantastic, the information was useful, efx were tasty. My only tiny hesitation was the pace of the information coming at us… I kept hoping for just a little b-roll break with no dialog, so that there was time to digest and store the points. Before my brain could say, “okay, next,” you were already speeding into the next topic. I didn’t want to miss anything! Just being picky though. You guys are not working on it anymore, you are a production company with an outstanding young team. Best to you all!
I love this!!!!! I would love to hear more about the workflow between Davinci and After Effects. I personally struggle with this. I love doing everything in Davinci except graphics and animations. I'm still looking for the best way to Edit, Audio, Colorgrade then introduce my AfterEffects animations to the videos. I'm so happy to see your Production Company grow so much over the years. I've been a follower since forever. VJUS has been such an inspiration for me! What you guys do is pure magic!
There's a couple of good videos on TH-cam that go into the differene between the two. I would link to them but TH-cam will slap me down hard if I do. Search for: - "Should you use LAYERS or NODES for VFX?" by InLightVFX - "Nodes Are Better Than Layers" by Cassie Ferris - "Nodes Aren't Scary!" by ArthurYourFilm I would love to see VJUS's take on this. I know they did a video on switching a while back but now that they've had a chance to adapt....
Great video! This is something I'm wanting to do in the future! And it might have just pushed me over to diving into Davinci Resolve. I've been pretty intimidated by it, as I have used premiere for years now
The overall workflow explained in the video was amazing, I loved it. ❤But one thing in the beginning and end was bothering me a lot being a cinematographer, so i wanted to share that with you. The key light on your right side of face was burning out way too much. If it was diffused a little bit more there could have been gradual fall off on your face. I obviously don't know the circumstances and in what time crunch you were shooting but just wanted to share this info with you. 😊❤
Thanks for this video. Just one thing is missing: What do you do AFTER finishing a project in Resolve? Do you create a project archive (which seems to be the best way) and store it on two different devices? Right now, I have to footage AND the project archive on a Synology NAS, but I believe that this is to much. Would be great to hear how you are working.
Great video as always! We're a small production company on Åland Islands and we're currently looking at Black Magic Cloud and a NAS-system. Can I ask you, what HDDs and SSDs are you using in your system? Keep up the good work!
We are really struggling with bmd cloud duplicating folders and proxies and whatnot. It is hard to manage when you just want the project maintained on the same computer machine in different locations
Enjoyed the videos thanks. But I dont think you need to number your folders though. The names by themselves are fine since they describe the contents. You have few enough folders that your people will see them "all at once" and wil know where to put there stuff. Numbered folders are something people think they need ...
Instead of Fusion, what about Nuke? Would that be a good fit for you? A free alternative to that is Natron. They look and behave *mostly* the same, though I'm not sure exactly what customization and pipeline things you can do there vs Nuke. I'm not much of a Fusion fan, after using Nuke it's just not the same feel. :D
I’ve been using After Effects for years and I’m much more comfortable with VFX and motion graphics in AE compared to Fusion. However, I can’t find a video that highlights a good DaVinci Resolve -> After Effects -> DaVinci Resolve (For finishing) workflow. Any suggestions?
Oh my gosh, YES. So sorry I couldn't see it before. In fact, I think I did write that down today after watching this again! So thanks for the confirmation! I hope you all are doing so very well with what you've all made. Have a blessed day! 👋😄
@@Andyax please do :) Would be great to stop by and say hello one day no matter what :) I’ve been in the film industry for two decades and what you’ve done with Vjus is super cool :)
I think I have got you confused with someone else. But I thought the last vide I watched of yours was that after the break in at your studio and all your equipment was stolen. After people were generous and helped you get replacement gear, you tried to carry on. But it became about running a business, not what you loved doing. I was saddened, as you were really inspiring.
It's not the first time you say, that After Effects is more powerful than Fusion. It's maybe easier to do some text effects in AE, but Fusion is a far better compositor. The more complex, the better it is to use Fusion or Nuke. Saying Fusion isn't great fir complex work, is like saying the same about Nuke. It's simply your skills in the software, that isn't there yet. Don't blame the software!

This the most valuable channel for budding production companies. Thank you for your incredible work Anders and team!

Always a great watch, guys! Just got the Tourbox myself, was surprised to see you had this in your workflow. I'm just getting to know the little guy!

My absolute favourite TH-cam channel! Thanks Vjus!
I think this is the channel i waas looking for regarding everything editing making my setup etc.
Juni Maie has such a "Daria Fissoun" vibe. I love it.
Very refined channel btw, great job !
Thank you for the behind the scenes tour. Much appreciated.
Just found this channel. And it’s super refreshing. Im learning a ton.

Hi Wayne. I had the same thought when we watched through the draft. I will bring that with us to the next project!
Thanks for sharing, always interesting to see how others have set everything up :)
Hey guys, really nice video. I was wondering if you have a template for the folder structure in file explorer that you're using.

Amazing insights on your workflow, appreciate the time and effort this team puts in the content!! 🙏🏻
wonderful video!!! And I LOVE the color grading in this video
Great video. Can’t wait to June. Going to be very exciting. (Adrian)
I love this video, I learning every day of filmaking.
i enjoyed watching this. thanks guys
Resolve has the ability to share and watch a video with a client online.
Great video! This is something I'm wanting to do in the future! And it might have just pushed me over to diving into Davinci Resolve. I've been pretty intimidated by it, as I have used premiere for years now
These videos you put out are great to learn from thank you

I color code my clips on my timeline too. It's awesome.
Amazing as always!
Please do an in-depth workflow review of filmbox.
This must've been the most subtle advertisement in a TH-cam video I've seen so far this year.
Davinci Resolve is the best software for video editing ever ☺☺😊😊😊😊
really cool video! ty for the input :)
Great Video!

I do the same for sound design. Small stuff I do in Fairlight but doing soiund design / foley for a short film or feature I move to Reaper.
You should be using Terracopy for your files transfers... heaps more gooda than the Windows default..
This was a great insight
Very informative, thanks for sharing
i feel that i should pay to watch this 👏
what is your problem? free content is revolutionary.
exactly my point... i'm just saying that is not everyone that put this type of content for free! it was a compliment! you need to chill@

wow keep it up, guys.
This must be a fun company to work at.
An other great video ! 🔥
great video guys love your stuff.... Do you think you will ever get into fusion?
is it more the lack of add ins?
Great video.
I'm curious, why you're using Filmbox after CST instead of doing color management in Filmbox?
Great video as always!

The Seagate IronWolf Pro drives are quite popular.

"Anders Loves Premiere" Folder is essential. :P
^^
really nice video, I‘m thinking about buying the Tourbox, but I work a lot mobile, and I‘m not shure if it‘s good for Laptop work

Do you by any chance know how to sync davinci with a DAW so that I can compose music with visual cues?
Nice video as always! Quick question, who's the poor person using the 3rd gen i7 with the gtx1070?
Goodness! How do you achieve this color?!
i wish i could join the course but im in a nother country .and just a mere student ,hopefully the nxt time 😂

Love these videos. Looks like I have to hop by your office and build you a bunch of proper mechanical keyboards. Let's hook up a colab ;)
That's great to hear :) Oh, cool! I have to check your videos.

All that effort for a joke scene? Doesn’t match the tone
