Filmmaking is the epitome of collaborative art, the more of these videos I watch about the wide range of talent it takes to release a film the more I am impressed and mesmerized by the whole process.
I cannot thank StudioBinder enough for helping me to better understand the entire filmmaking process. I've gained so much knowledge and feel more confident moving forward with my own weird little films! Thanks a million!!!
This was impressive. A balance of broad overview and some very important details. I was surprised to hear you mentioning conforming ( Color Grading process) and Compression ( Sound Editing). When you start hitting on stuff like that without getting into the weeds. You are really hitting on some important details that will provide the members of the audience who aren't familiar with these aspects of the process, the information they need to begin to take a deeper dive if they want to.
Please do an entire episode on the mixing process, from ideal levels to everything else. Sound mixing across the entire film is about the only challenge I'm still having with my feature film
5:30 remembered me about that movie with John travolta, and I forgot the name of it. After a few minets googleing, find it - Blow Out. I like how he disocvered the shot before the crush car in the film. Nice!
I've always loved the technical details of filmmaking, but it's been years since I've been crewed on an actual set (and even when I was, it was small-time video production, not films). I love that you've included both the old and the modern techniques in this video. It helps an old-timer like me stay up to date on the industry. Any plans to do more in-depth videos about editing? That was one of my favorite areas.
You’re always using beautiful melodies for these videos. Is there a place where I can find a list of them maybe? What is the song’s name that plays from 08:46? I love it. Thank you very much.
An interesting aspect maybe for episode 2 could be how to combine all the exports of all these departments together (conforms). Many deliverables can be made, depending on where the film will be diffused, the type of audience, festival outputs. As well for archives, DCP files, etc. As always, beautiful work. I never click so fast when I see a thumbnail on TH-cam.
Hello Studio Binder! This was an awesome video! I would love to see a video where you break down the dynamics of the movie „The big short“, especially script wise & structure of the story, as well as the usage of montage and breaking the fourth wall! Maybe you could add the movie to the your list and put it into a suitable category of your types of videos! Greetings from Austria

I don't thank you enough for your top tier content. I love these series. I can't wait for the MARKETING phase of this filmmaking series. I am to learn more about the relationship between distribution and marketing.
This is quite condensed. Quite the feat to cram it in to 20 minutes. Each section could be an hour long and it would be diffucult to cover most aspects well. I'm from the sound side of the production and post production fields. The Foley section was a little short, as the artists and mixers often produce sounds even editors will struggle to cobble together. Perhaps you should have quoted a few lines from David Yewdalls book :) . Lots of juicy ones to pick from. Book recommendations "Practical Art of Motion Picture Sound" David Lewis Yewdall , "Dialogue Editing for Motion Picture" by John Purcel , "Foley Grail" by Vanessa Theme Ament. There's probably way more by now too.
Amazing series and beautiful communication, it is my favorite channel. I think I heard Hitchcock name the cut, instead of ''the assembly''... So many great details in such a great manner and measure, thank you for exciting moments while always being given a chance to learn something. Best regards from Montenegro. Or 'Greetings' like the film where De Niro had one of the first roles//parts if I'm not mistaken.
ln regards to sound design, they really need to sort out differences in levels between music soundtrack and spoken lines. lve lost count in how many productions lve viewed that require turning volume down with sound fx & soundtrack then having to turn volume up to hear dialogue. Or am l the only one who has that problem?

Great video :) Cheers 🤩Could explain the difference in offline and online editing. What it is and how it works? I hear it is about the downsizing the files size to make the editing flow easier.
Offline refers to using proxy files, which are smaller, lower quality versions of the originals. This is done both to take up less space and for better performance when editing. Online refers to using the original high quality files, which is crucial for color grading and VFX.

I disagree with your definitions. CGI doesn’t mean totally created in computer. It means aspects of the shot are computer generated. It can be used in composite shots and mocap shots. Definitions like this are why films like Top Gun can claim to use 'no cgi' when 99% of a captured shot is replaced by digital creations.
