What I like about Smart telescopes is that kids and people who don't have experience in astrophotography can enjoy it without all the technical problems and frustration. My 7 yr old grandson did the whole session with Dwarf 2. I'm looking forward to seeing Celestrons' version.
Hi Cody! Great review! Price is definitely too steep. But I was wondering if you want to do nothing and see the pictures next day morning, why can't you just sleep in and download pictures on the Internet next day morning? I don't know what purpose do these automated telescopes serve!! Maybe the comment is a bit harsh but I was wondering why buy this at that price? You can buy rasa8 and a good mount for that price.
love your channel , sold me on the avx i paired it with the ssag with excellent results, i am wondering about post processing here and calibration frames ? darks, flats etc can they be done ?
Smart Scopes just got better. Yes it's one of the highest price point's but if Celestron keep the upgrade path going with EQ wedge/polar alignment camera upgrades etc it'll be one of the best Smart Scopes out there. Running at F2 put's it up there for me especially atm I'm fighting a loosing battle with the clouds lol. But it's not going to be for everyone. For me vs a full set up it's space saving is a massive plus, I'll probably never have the room to store a full set up. But this is early day's for me and the Origin is a upgrade path say in 2-3 year's from now or I've found a full set up that ticks all the box's for not taking up too much room.
Thanks for the review. Basic old geezer question: Can you use this as a telescope for visual through-the- eyepiece observing, or is it only for astrophotography?
Good Review, I'm so glad there are no negatives with this awesome scope. Celestron hit it out of the park with a scope that will meet everyone's needs and perform flawlessly each and every time it is turned on. At this point the competition might as well close up and move on to another niche.
NexStar 11 GPS is probably Celestron’s best telescope ever in my opinion. Amazing mount and telescope. Do you have the carbon fiber tube or standard? Origin would complement the C11 nicely.
Pretty sure they will just do the polar alignment with the standard evolution wedge. Costs around 400 dollars/euros. Not sure why this was not released software wise yet, seems like a simple mod.
NIce telescope, I have had a Nexstar 8 for 24 years and the electronics quit a year or so ago. I may get another Celestron 6 inch refractor. I like viewing planets. I will check the price of that scope. And consider it. Like the mount. Thanks so much for the video.Just checked and $4000 is more than I want to spend. But it is very nice telescope.
Great review!! Thank you. Do you know if the Ethernet port can be used to transfer raw images? Would be nice to pull them straight to my NAS instead of futzing with USB sticks and having to move the files twice.
Awesome video Cody. Sounds like the Origin is the next major step forward for smart telescopes. I've been using a Vaonis Vespera for several years. I appreciate how you point out all of Origin's advance features. Can you take a few images and show us how to get them into optional post processing software like PixInsight?
I've only had my Seestar S50 out of its case once since I received my Origin. It outperforms the Seestar. While it is easy for you to pick up the Origin, for some of us geezers, it can be a bit more difficult :)
This is a very small and smart telescope. I bought the RASA11 with too much momentum, but considering the utilization rate and portability, I'm starting to think it's a RASA8. I'm worried about the collecting plate. I wrote it with the iPad translation function😅
I was hoping for a telescope that could do deep space objects as well as planetary photography and this one isn't good for planetary. So, I'll have to pass especially considering the cost. Thanks for the review!
Yeah, I definitely would not use the Origin for any serious planetary work. A Newtonian would be better suited for that task. Engineering a good smart planetary scope would be quite the challenge given the focal lengths involved.
It is a very informative review but also a lot biassed. I discovered a lot of good things that I didn't know about the origin, but you didn't say anything bad about it, and that's equally needed by yours subscribers to make good decisions. I was hopping that you talk about the very awful RASA Halos that appears when you use the filter in the brightest Stars, that's a deal breaker to me, and I wanted you to talk about it, specially if Celestron is going to try to solve that problem.
I always appreciate the depth of your reviews. I may have missed it but I'm curious is that a loaner from Celestron or did they give it to you or did you buy it yourself. I know you are very enthusiastic about it but I heard no mention of any shortcomings and issues with it. It felt a little lopsided to me .
I mention at the end it was a loaner, and I sent it back. If the camera wasn’t replaceable that would be a con for sure, but I believe Celestron will release future camera updates. The only con that comes to mind is the price, but I think that’s obvious.
Cody. I have been watching you since some of your first videos. You have come a long way my friend. Your videos are well constructed and produced. Clearly you have gained the attention of both the manufacturers of astronomy equipment as well as a growing following of your videos. Keep up the great work and I can't wait for your upcoming review of your new PlaneWave CDK17 ;)
Great review! The camera is meh, and guiding and star trails are also very meh. The scope looks great. It kind of blows my mind that they haven’t released a 6” rasa at this point. Seems like there’s a large market for that.
Pros: all in one automation makes it easy and that 6 inch RASA is a sweet scope. Cons: $5000 or in australian Dollars $7000 for starters, Then there is the rubbish camera on this. Next the fact it is not an equatorial mount means field rotation making processing images that little bit harder. So So guiding means shorter subs which will clog up your drive very quickly as you will need many many files. So in essence you are spending a small fortune for something that will give you mediocre images. There are better options with a more modular setup that will yield excellent images for less. but that RASA is so sweeeeet!!
@@fpanadero2626 There are compromises on the 'no holds barred' scopes as well - such as requiring users to spend several years developing the expertise to use them and also apparently not placing any value on users' time once they do. I for one have a very limited amount of time with many interests including still working full time.
Origin costs too much at $4000 + tax and is a heavy behemoth. Dwarf 2/3 and Seestar S50 are compact, can get as good images at a 500 dollar price point.
I think your reviews are good but very biased towards all celestron things which is a shame , the price of this smart telescope is way over priced. i say that as someone who has invested much into celestron . Pound for pound look at the Dwarf smart telescope or similar .
How so? I’m fine being criticized for valid reasons, and happy to review how I do things. I do agree it’s priced high. I’m sure that has to do with what you’re getting but also the substantial R&D that went into it. I don’t think the camera is a bad choice. With live stacking and good seeing, you get some great images. It does exactly what it’s advertised to do. I haven’t seen it advertised for planets, but I’d definitely avoid it for planets (for obvious reasons).

for the price, I would have expected something more recent and larger than an IMX178 sensor. Perhaps an IMX585 would have been more appropriate.
Great review!

Love the RASA scopes.
I'd expect some sort of EQ mode for that price.

Very interesting video, well explained ! Question though, what about collimation ?
Thanks for the video and all the information. I would like to see processed images, the one you shown looks a bit poor quality and blury.
Great review Cody I do hope that Celestron would sell the scope separate as a 6 inch RASA is a lot more manageable than the 11 I have for trips away.
I have been waiting for your review above all others. :-)
I have a Unistellar Equinox 2 , and see that the Origin is the next progression in this type of telescope , and can't wait to get one in the future
Awesome review Cody! Clear skies.
Thanks Don!
Many thanks Cody, a very informative review.
I have a nexstar gps 11 I had for years and a baonis vespera first version. Definitely saving my money for the origin.

How is it for planetary observation, is it at least serviceabe ?
Thanks so much for this
I would like to see the OTA offered separately. The mount is very loud so quieter mount would help. More than 10 sec. exposures needed.
Super loud for sure. Celestron mounts all tend to have that whiny high pitched noise.

Can this mount be used as an alt-az mount with other telescopes? This would be an added value to a very interesting imaging system.
Thank you ❤

Hi Cody this is Don. I am getting pig tails when I shoot arcturas
Do you think the camera could be replaced with a zwo camera? What’s the back focus.
with f/2.2, is it suitable for near objects like the moon and planets?
Moon yes, planets no (too small)
No EQ mount?

A pity the central camera assembly is so obstructive. The sensor area is a small fraction of the overall central assembly
One of the weak points is the field of view rotation. maybe.

It’s not sponsored, I don’t get paid, and I didn’t keep the Origin. All my own opinion, I loved it and think it’s excellent.
