  • If you have a 2011 n63 x5 50i and you think you want to change your transfer case actuator gear for preventive maintence, DON'T. It's a waste of time and it does NOT exist on this SAV.
If you want to see how to get to the actuator itself, then watch the video.

I got the same module in my 2011 x5 xdrive35i. I did the same as you, bought the gear from Amazon then realized after performing surgery on the TC that it's a different module. I also took it apart thinking that maybe there were gears inside. This thing is out of commission more than it's available to drive. Ultimate driving machine... driving me insane.

This is good, it is refreshing to see real people making content that isn't completely sanitized of mistaken information. Thank you for posting it.

Thank you so much for showing this Video! I have a 2011 X5 50i and it showed 4x4 problem recently. After a bit research, I found all videos posted online were 2011 X5 35i model, not 50 i. The 35i can be relatively easily to replace the actuator gear to fix that 4x4 problem but it’s obviously different from 50i model. Thanks again for this video and now I know this actuator can be taken out and replaced instead of replacing the whole transfer case!

I have 2013 x5 xdrive35i. Got the same thing going on as you. 4X4 error. order the parts and went ahead with the removal. Find out its this odd part. Damn it!!!

Thank you for this. I was about to waste my time doing this lol. Also after doing some digging, the only place that shows you the right part is FCP Euro and the 50i T-Case motor is $1300, not $350 like the regular v6. 🥴

Aint no V6 in the BMW range, its a straight 6. On the E70, early versions were 3.0 si and then the twin turbo.

@@dgkiwi I know that. It was a mistake because my mind was on the V8.

What would you say is the mileage for replacement? In this case today I was planning to change it also until I saw the part did not look similar to that one in the videos

If you have x5 50i, there is no replacement gear, it's the entire box that will be replaced. I tried this now at 88k miles because this is a used car and I have no idea its history.

I think 2011-2015 models have different those parts than older x5:s

So how did you fix your transfer case problem?

There was no problem, this was preventive maintenance. I didn't need to change this gear at all, but I do note that after changing the differential front and rear and the transfer case fluids, the vehicle is dead silent on hard acceleration, whereas before the change, there was a very loud whining noise upon hard acceleration. I highly recommend these fluid changes. The fuel economy goes up also a mile or two. Thanks for visiting and commenting.

Try doing better research next time. Find out beforehand what model number transfer case you have. It's pretty common knowledge that the transfer case used on the M62 is not the same as used on the N63. The newer transfer case I think is the ATC45L. Wasted effort?
