Tailgate will not open on Volvo V50 T5. Fixed.

2006 Volvo V50 T5 83,000km
Tailgate lock started to open on its own non stop until it completely got unresponsive.
The fix is to replace the switch assembly 30699141
LED Volvo license plate fixture - 31365548 X 2

The same thing happened to my V50, 2 years apart. The micro switch is broken because it gets water. When I last changed it, I insulated it with silicone between the part where the bulb and switch are connected and the trunk lid. As a result, it has not broken down for 5 years :)

Great videos ... appreciate all the great information and hands on tutorials ..... I have a question for you .... I have a 2012 S60 T6 and I am considering gifting it to my daughter who is in the USA .... Volvo wants USD1,000 for a clearance letter (crazy money grab) .... nevertheless, I suspect the only difference between the Canadian and US version of the car (other than KMs vs Miles) is that the US car had a TPMS and if that is the case, they may require me to install that to be able to comply with US DOT requirements. Have you or do you know anyone who has ever installed a TPMS on a Canadian Volvo .... trying to understand if it's a big issue or simply everything is already set other than placing new valves and trigger the software ....thanks.

In my xc60 2015 this button also does not work. Looks identical to the V50. I tried to repair it and when it is disassembled it works every time. After assembly it stops working. I've tried to repair it 3 times and it always works when it's disassembled....😢

@@volvosweden I checked on the Internet and the switches in the v50 and xc60 look identical. After disassembly, the switch works every time. After assembly, it rarely works. That's why I wonder what's damaged. Maybe a cable on the plugs? Ground?
