  • This car is kicking my ass.... I only have a few months left to go and so much left to do. Knocked out the door sills (kinda) .... Until I realized I have a lot more to do. Still plugging on towards RatStock 2024. That means I have to get this POS put back together and running / driving like 1000 miles in less than 90 days....
    Thanks for checking it out

    Just thought about a way to save money on rust converter products. Ospho has been around for years and so using a pump sprayer with Ospho will save a ton of money.

    The jury rig with the fiberglass on the door sills in the last two videos is insane. Thanks for the videos, stay strong, it'll look great at the show in Sept!

      Yeah … the amount of structural repair with fiberglass was atrocious

    Hi, Marek, You can get oversized hinge pins, drill out a bigger hole and jam them in. The result might fix your door sag issue

    If the hing pins are good. Some gentile backward persuasion on the upper door hinge attached to the body will probly allow the body flex to keep the door in a better path. Alittle over a 1/4 inch would probly do the trick. Just my 2 cents. Good luck! I am enjoying the process 👍

    Gonna be a tight deadline but it seems like it's coming together nicely. I agree with the amount of space between the distributor and the firewall. Don't be like me and my cars. Half inch clearance on mine between tunnelram and firewall. Can Barely get in there to get to the cap or plug wires.

      Yeah I have gorilla hands anyways and tough to get into tight spots

    On your rear door sag issue. A couple of things to look out for before changing a hinge and pin that the manufacturer had no issues with when not worn out. First make sure your the support that the hinges are mounted to aren't moving. Lack of support is a big issue for sagging on suicide doors. Another thing to look at could be a sprung hing. You can take a block of wood on a floor jack at the farthest point of the door from the hinges jack up on it with the door as close as possible to closed till the door lines up. Just a tip on this it requires going past what is needed because it will spring back some. Good luck and nice work. Ooh and never get mad at it.. accept the challenge, and it is challenging you, and figure out what ever fights you. Remember these old cars were hand built for the biggest part and many don't match side to side.

    • @MarekMakes

      Oh she’s fighting me for sure
      I think the hinge mounts definitely are bad because the pins look good with not much wear. I have been back and forth about heating the hinges up and tweaking them or doing what you suggested

  • @tpmalu

    Just move the striker plate on the b post down a bit
    keep up the good work

    Your door gaps look good, I agree with the other commentors on the hinge pins. Have someone pick up on the door edge near the handle and then look at the hinge that has the play or is drooping. Try to keep the original hinge and be careful if you try to heat and manipulate the hinge there isn't much room to bend and twist the hinge. Hinge pin kits are available from I &I reproductions. Keep up the good work!

    • @MarekMakes

      Awesome suggestion

  • @Shiryas
    @Shiryas 3

    I suspect the door droop when open is from either worn hinge/pin or weak support of C pillars at those hinges when the door is open, putting all the weight on the hinges. Upper flexing forward, lower pushed to the rear. If it was me, I would try what you are thinking with a shim that lower hinge. If you are happy with the gaps when the door is latched but need to lift the door to get the striker to the correct location for it to close then spacing the hinges might not have a dramatic effect on the gaps since the door will still engage at the striker.

    • @MarekMakes

      Good call, The pillars are pretty bad where the hinges are ( YES I EVEN FOUND FIBERGLASS AND BODY FILLER THERE!!!)

  • @streetkd08

    I’d try shimming it. Then it won’t force the door up to line it up.

  • @SeansNewWorld

    Most likely the hinge pins are worn out or the hinge mounts are flexing

    • @MarekMakes

      Yeah I’m certain the mounts are the bad spot … pins look good and fit tight

  • @Keifsanderson

    In lieu of shimming your hinges (which I assume you can't easily do), what about twisting them? Are the hinge pins removable? Maybe you could remove the door, heat the car-side hinges with the hot wrench, and use a breaker bar or some other lever to tweak them just a hair.

    • @MarekMakes

    Without having a original body structure, your work is cut out for you. One of my favorite channels is INNvision Prototypes. Man is a genius with metal and has so many talents that I can not explain. He has playlists that may give you inspirations on how to best go forwards. That said, this is just a hotrod and its good enough for what it is. Not a Sema car but just a general saving of something that otherwise would be beer cans. I realize the short amount of time you have to fab something out of nothing. Head up and devil be damned.
