I think it's all a great job. I've run into similar on that front bump. Maybe consider using a bowl, everything is curved up front and the bowl can soften that bump out. Just an idea, keep up the good work.
Looks great , manual steering box will make life easier, I have a manual boxes on my sub-framed 37/38 Chevy's. Pretty inexpensive fix and a -lot less fabrication. Don't forget to add the lower radiator mount to the crossmember on you to-do list. Looks great slammed, best more door chop i have seen!!!
Box or no box it looks good to me. Really liked seeing it outside. It's good to roll it outside so you can see the whole thing. Proportions are spot on!👏👏
Very cool!😎 I’m along for the ride. I also like how you adapted the driver’s side fender ti accommodate the steering box. If someone has problems with it, that’s their problem. It’s your ride, not theirs.
car is looking good ,getting it all mocked up and bumper mounted to frame trails, then maybe finesse sheet metal to form and flow with existing area to cover up frame rail to blend in and do passenger side to even it out .
Their are haters and their are appreciative people who recognise what you are dealing with, I've been in the same position, remove the grill and make a box across to the other side with the same dimensions, cut the box back after so you can fit the grill behind and through the now sectioned box, extend the right frame you cut off to match the left, these then become the mounts for your front bumper, the results are far more uniform, when I did mine I had trial and error curving and rounding the ends of the boxes (which were welded to the guards) but the end result looked like it could have been from factory, just an idea for you lol😂
Yeah I think mostly it is the asymmetry that bugs me... If I was to make another box on the other side it would look a lot better. People have suggested bumper mounts or fog lights etc to hide the modification
Hi Marek, Ditch the blister and run it naked. With a bumper it may not be that noticeable. As you have said it is a rat rod. Look at some of the early ones people were building and a few didn’t even have a complete floor exposing parts of the drive train. But at the end is the day it is yours and you should do what you like not everyone else. I have been following from the start and just love your “I’ll do it my way” attitude. Can’t wait to see this finished.
The sedan looks outstanding. Your chop makes it look like a hotrod. That bump will blend in once you give it a little paint on the bare edges. The sedan will ride so nice with the engine set back it will ride better than the original S10. Your making good progress and everyone runs into items we have to live with. Don't talk about it and don't point it outta folks. Great job
Progress is always positive. One idea for that boxed front...either throw a license plate and frame (if required by law) or duplicate it on the other side and make round bumper ends mount to it?
Chopping cutting grinding all part of the process...Looking great when you bolted Dogbox and fenders together...As far as the " Wart" goes it isn't that bad maybe you can do the same on the passenger side just to balance it and add a pair of round fog lights there to look as it was part of the idea... The idea comes from VRMN TH-cam channel he has a 1937 Chev Master Deluxe as well. Secondly make the "Wart" more rounded to blend in between the fenders curve and the dogbox, makes it streamlined. Remember you still have the bumpers to bolt on as well so it will hid the"Wart" abit also. The overriders maybe block the "Wart too. Looking good don't be despondent...When you are doing the patina with the peroxide and vinegar maybe leave it in the outside overnight for the dew or maybe even rain if possible, to weather it down abit...just my humblest suggestions
@@MarekMakes Really enjoying your build Marek. I'm about to start chassis swap on a 1937 dodge 4 door sedan so learning all I can. Cheers. The rat rod scene is small in NZ compared to the States. the other guy I like is Diff(rat rods for Africa)
At the 24min make I had a brain fart moment 😅see where the tape is at the top of the inner curve of the guard ,what if ran a curve piece of steel that follows th shape of the guard put a edge to it so it can e removed if the guard has to come off / it buts up against the dog box and flowes over the protruding steering box and it will flow with the front of the guards yeah ya going to have to matchit to the other side 👍 I think you can do it ,you've done well on all the rest of the Chevy. Keep up the great thinking.
Yeah I definitely would need to give this thing more shape if I’m going to keep something there … everything else on the car is curvy and I made a square so it looks really obnoxious
Great progress. Looking fantastic!! I was hoping you’d show us what the front end looked like with the front bumper in place. How much if at all does it hide the wart? Either way, I agree with your 2 points - it’s your car and it’s a rat rod. Get er done!
It's your car but I would have just notched it to let the steering box poke through the hole - I like the old fog light idea - that and a bumper should make it go away... plus when you are cruising this thing you will soon forget it's even there. GOOD JOB it looks great outside!
I hops you are going to weld end caps inside the end of the chassis rails you cut off to give strength back to where your steering box and arms are attached. Cutting so close to them would weaken the mounts.
HEY MAREK, HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT MAKING ANOTHER COVER ON THE BOTTOM OF OTHER SIDE FRONT GUARD.. AND POSSIBLY MAKE A JOINER PANEL WHICH RUNS UNDER/SLIGHTLY OVER THE BOTTOM OF THE GRILLE. A COUPLE OF CURVED BEAD ROLLS IN THE PANEL WILL ADD SOME CHARACTER TO YOUR RATROD..ITS COMING TOGETHER.. LOOKING GOOD.. CHEERS FROM CHILL FROM AUSTRALIA..
Yeah I thought making something on the other side so it is symmetrical would help... Have so much more to do though... may have to work on function over form first
Do you have to run a front license plate in your state? Likely not, but if so you can use the wort for a license plate holder. Looking great! **just noted a comment below you're planning on running a front bumper, I didn't think about a bumper in the mix**.
Adding some symmetry would be nice. Someone else commented trying to cut a bowl so I can get more of a curvy shape as opposed to a squared box like I made as everything else on the car is compound curves
yes they do but as far as I can tell from photos online the running board attached under the front fenders and to the front edge of the rear fenders... so when I build my running boards the gap up front will disappear
I think it's all a great job.
I've run into similar on that front bump. Maybe consider using a bowl, everything is curved up front and the bowl can soften that bump out. Just an idea, keep up the good work.
Clever! I don't have any way of making compound curves... that's a good idea!
👍🏻I had to switch to a manual steering box for a little extra room.
Thats a great idea! a manual box mite be able to camouflage the problem a little better.

Right on
man it looks great
thank you
Hey Marek, I actually did learn about the card trick from you thank you. I would match the other side then put the bumper on. Great build!!
Cool, thanks

Totally agree!

That's what I was thinking! 😊
Right on!
You’re doing a great job. Sometimes you just gotta figure it out as you go along. It’s your build, you do you.
Thanks 👍

Lots more to do!!
Good place for an old time fog light and plate mount.. 🤔
Good Idea!!
Getting there Marek. Looking great. Remember it's a Rat Rod not a show piece You are doing great. 🇿🇦

Haha yeah... I'm sure I will notice it more than anyone else!
👍🏻What about trying some 1930s headlights turned around so it looks like daggers coming out instead of a box. Kind of like the old Cadillac bumpers.
I have the headlights in a box... I can try that out
Looks great, appreciate the videos.
Thanks for watching!

Pennsylvania only requires one tag but I could get a decorative plate... Lots of possibilities
Thanks for painting the wheels.
yeah they needed it
Make another box on the otherside put killswitch in the hide both with the flat bumper
yeah symmetry would look better
Great work. Keep at it. I like the overall look of the car. Billk
Thanks 👍

You should put some dagmars on there like they are on the '50s Cadillac One on each side
not a bad idea ....
Hey Marek. Hide it with the bumper. No ones gonna notice cos they gonna be too busy thinking how awesome the rest of the build is . Brian from NZ
It's awesome I'm getting comments from NZ. !!!! THANKS !!!

@@briankarencooper207oh yeah - he has taught me a lot too! Also check out @ratrodbobbuilds
I would say hammer out a blister for the steering box cover and do a matching one for the other side
Definitely a possibility
I am having same problem so I made a box to match drivers side and I am going to lower headline. Maybe it will help your doing great

I guarantee I want notice it from the drivers seat!
Make it a tag mount for the left fender , can hide it that way
Good Idea !!!!
The steering box is the weak link on s10 chassis i put a blister on the lower valance of the car I did . Cheers .
👍🏼
I hops you are going to weld end caps inside the end of the chassis rails you cut off to give strength back to where your steering box and arms are attached. Cutting so close to them would weaken the mounts.
yea I will... I also need to make some brackets to actually secure the fenders because right now they are just resting on the frame

I do not need to run a license plate upfront here. I have not excluded any other options, including bumpers, etc..
Kidding here… make it look like a Salvation Army donation box. That’ll help with the budget….
😅
Cap the frame and run it like that
Lower lites mount turn in or on box
Cheap thrift store baking pan to cover box
What about a box on the other side and round the edges so it matches the the fenders a bit more. A bump on each side wouldn’t be so obvious 🤷🏻♂️
Adding some symmetry would be nice. Someone else commented trying to cut a bowl so I can get more of a curvy shape as opposed to a squared box like I made as everything else on the car is compound curves
Maybe a smaller steering box?
any suggestions I could grab from a junk yard?

its a dam rat rod not a 100,000 show car
True fact
