Hi Ace. My wife and I are coming to Manta the end of March for an exploratory trip beginning in Manta and working our way down to Olon. My brother and his wife were going to go with us but backed out for safety concerns. I don’t have those. I’m a jailer with an extensive background in security so I’m always aware of my surroundings. Oh well, their loss. Crime is high everywhere. Our jails and prisons in Minnesota are busting at the seams. If I were afraid of rising crime I’d never leave the house. I’m certainly not going to let a few dirtbags dictate how I live my life. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to experience some of your beautiful country.
You guys will be fine. The press and government have blown the whole safety situation out of proportion. Just don't go near the dangerous cities like Guayaquil, Quevedo, or Esmeraldas
Glad to read that you haven’t been deterred from coming to visit Ecuador! It’s unfortunate that your brother and his wife backed out but at least you’ll get to tell/show them how amazing it is. Thank you for your comment and I hope to keep giving value!
@user-cy2yq7qf4o Amelia and JP moved to Europe in 2023 and have not been to Manta in years. I live in Ecuador and very little has changed here in Quito except for all of the tourists having been scared away
@user-cy2yq7qf4o They’re still alive and well and were never robbed while they were there so I think I’ll be ok. I’ll do my best to avoid problem areas.
Ace, you are right on target. You let us know what is going on around you, and we can make decisions from there. We all need to use common sense, wherever we are !
Hi, we just returned to Canada after spending two weeks visiting your wonderful country where we had a magnificent and trouble-free stay. We never felt any insecurity. We stayed in the Sierra region, but we are already thinking about returning to explore the south and the coastal region of Ecuador.
Glad to read that you had such a great time in the Sierra region! Definitely hope you get a chance to visit the coastal region, tons of beautiful things to see and the food does not disappoint.
Don't sweat the small stuff! You made a great video showing what common items cost at your local store. In other news... I've been watching so many of your videos that TH-cam is now giving me adverisements in spanish 😂.
True! @GM Ace don't let those comments get to you and waste your precious time behind them. Do what you do best and they will do what they do best. Thanks for sharing your time, experience, and knowledge💖
I'm glad I've subscribed to your channel, and to some others that focus on life in Ecuador, Ace. Ecuador is high on my list of countries to ex-pat to once I retire, and despite the current challenges facing it, my opinion hasn't changed. I've only recently visited for the first time, last October, but I felt a connection that has stayed with me since. I will continue to stay abreast of what's happening in Ecuador, and will continue to anticipate exploring your wonderful country further!
I watched your grocery store shopping video and thought it to be very informative. It’s really sad, though, that you had to spend time addressing seemingly negative comments from uninformed/biased viewers. To quote Don, “Bite Me!”. Please ignore what you call the “outliers” and keep doing what you’re doing. We love you.
My dear friend, Thank You for this channel. I was planning to join a group photography trip to Equador in June, but regarding the recent situation I got quite afraid. Now I have much more courage. Now I have much more information how to be careful and aware of surroundings. Thanks for all the tips from your videos. I am eager to visit now :-) God the Lord, bless you and keep your channel growing. Your english is amazing, I need to start my spanish soon I guess. 🙋🏻♂️🙏🏻🕊️
Hey, thanks a ton for checking the video out. Glad to hear that you haven’t been deterred from visiting. Definitely stay up to date with info from sources that are closest to the area your visiting, there are quite a few channels that I’ve mentioned on my channel that can give you an idea of what’s going on in the area they’re at. Hope you have a great visit in June!
@@GMAceM I like know more about the housing within your city. Condos, single-family homes, apartments and the distance to airports like Manta, and Quito. Are the high-rise buildings in your city with full service, security and cost of household help. I seem to be running into a lack of information for those questions within your city. You are the information doctor 🙂 Cost of housing a list of realtors and site with your city.
You are absolutely right! :) If anything I wanted this video podcast episode to help cover those topics (safety and perfection in Ecuador) in a more casual way and also maybe help someone who might genuinely not know how TH-cam works. Also, who knows if maybe in the future I make a series where I react to comments, that might be fun lol
I'm american Ecuadorian and I'm looking to living back there since honestly the states isn't where my roots are. I'm just not sure if the opportunity is there compared to here in my field of computer engineering. Either way I'm looking to invest in my land. Starting to feel a connection in my motherland cuenca.
I completely understand that. The main factor that could make it easier to get a job is having connections, that’s just the “law of the land” and I’m pretty sure you already know that. The more “complicated” but realistic (and fair) route is if you have university degrees (masters + phd) from countries outside of Latin America and if you have a good amount of work experience. Regardless, I hope you get to come back and have a great time!
I think for housing types I might be able to do that for Manta. As for distances, I made a short where I showed how long it took me to get from Manta to Quito. If you mean how long it would take to get to the airport in each respective city, it does primarily depend on where you’re at in the city. Like if you live right next to (close to) the airport in Manta then it would be really quick to reach but if you live far away then it could take forever. Just to give an estimate (based on living in the middle of the city), in Manta it would take around 10min maybe a bit more depending on traffic conditions. Quito is a different story since the airport is pretty far from the city and can take around 30-40min+ to reach, that’s how long it took me anyways when I was there.
Were you in Ecuador when the 2016 earthquake hit Manabi? If so, what was that like? My airbnb host in Quito told me that the epicenter was in her home town where you live.
Right now, Ecuador has bad education, really expensive if you want to go to a private institution for a primary education - where the monthly tuition is higher than a monthly mininum wage. If you ask why private school when there are public schools - public schools standard is so bad and overpopulated, it's also very unsafe. Public healthcare sucks. To get an appointment, usually you have to wait for 6 to 1 year to get it and you're lucky if they have medicines - not even a paracetamol! Crime rate is high, too much ugly poor dangerous areas specially in Guayaquil, not much locals knows English. Cost of living is crazy high - apparently people are having 3 credit cards, they use credits and loans to survive. All reasons to leave this country. I don't think you spend less here, the cost of items in the grocery store is not too far from the ones abroad. Even the coffee here in Sweet n Coffee, a mocha milkshake is $4 that is not affordable considering the minimum wage is just $450. A country is not safe if kids can't even go to a public park without fear of being kidnapped or killed. Honest opinion here, Ecuador is not a place to live. To visit? Yes maybe for 2 weeks but never live in this country .
I would posit that a country is unsafe if its students are gunned down in classrooms and regularly train in active shooter drills, or if many/most of its citizens feel the need to carry a weapon whenever they venture out of their homes. Couple the safety issues with extraordinary healthcare than is simply too expensive for a sizable percentage of the population, continued disinvestment in public schools directly and indirectly through voucher programs, and a tectonic shift in wealth over the past few decades from the middle class to the top 1-2%, etc. Then you have a better picture of why Ecuador still is so appealing to many of us! Keep on keeping on, Ace!
"Crazy high" cost of living? The average apartment in the USA costs $1700 and in Ecuador it's $300. A gallon of gas is $3.30 in USA vs. $2.40 in Ecuador. A ride on the NYC Subway or bus costs $2.90 vs. 45 cents in Quito. An average hotel room in USA is $150 vs. less than $20 in Ecuador
@@luisdetomaso867 $300 yes an apartment at a crappy dangerous area of the city, I cannot say much about NYC subway because it's also dirty and not the safest. If you take the bus transpiration here - good luck with being robbed and having to squish yourself into an overloaded vehicle. $20 hotel room in Ecuador? where? yes there is a price difference - but do not forget the purchasing power of Ecuadorians with a minumin wage of $450
@@ItsStrawberryShortCake I pay $400 and live in one of the fanciest neighborhoods in Quito. I've toured all over Ecuador on my motorcycle and regularly pay no more than $13 to $18 for a hotel room.
