i was just starting out watching hickock45 around when this video was dropped in 2011. its now 2022 and im 24 thanks for all the good memories and knowledge about firearms hickock. somehow mustve let this one slip thru the cracks im glad it popped up
I know some of you might not care for these sorts of guns and knives as much, but I'm fond of just about anything that shoots. If you're young and all caught up in nothing but fast shooting and machineguns, that's okay, but try to branch out at some point and develop an appreciation for the firearms that won us our freedom, as well as those that help to ensure it today.
@MrGoosePit , It's called a Possibles Bag, mainly for muzzle loading accessories (powder, balls, etc.). I bought it here at Friendship about 11 years ago. It's great for large events such as this, as you are a long way from your car normally and can carry water with you or items you purchase in it. Plus, at this event, it's a very common "man purse" to see. There are several makers of them there displaying their craftsmanship. Mine is elk skin, a real beauty.
Love you videos and glad to see you attend the Friendship shoots. I grew up not far from there and went to many of the Friendship rendezvous. My favorite thing to do in southeastern Indiana.
This needs restored as a Large Event!!! This event promotes the basics and foundation of Firearms. Even if you're not a black powder shooter watching and understanding this is important!!!!
@mindeloman, LOL, Well, I explained to him that we do videos on TH-cam. He was fine with talking about his craft and such. I just love his stuff, so I hope he does sell a couple extra pieces for putting up with us a few minutes. After we stopped gabbing with him, I bought the throwing axe I was holding, and John bought the throwing knife I showed in the video.
@MrAk47master, No, it's a competition, and while I'm fond of the old "charcoal burners," I've never competed with them. The only temptation there is that silhouette range; if I had a way to practice at those ranges a little, it might be fun to shoot the Enfield at those things.
This is GREAT. I've been hearing about this for years from you mostly but a few others too. Thanks for the quick tour. On my to-do list now for sure. Gotta love this channel.
This is my first exposure to the traditional tool makers. Now I understand how a person could really get into collecting these interesting items. You guys really get around.
@emu4286 , They have it in October, too. I think it starts on the second Saturday of September and runs for that weekend and through the next. Same for October.
@lurch2150, Unfortunately, that happens too often in the gun business. Just start a thread on any popular gun forum about ill-tempered gun shop clerks / owners or gun show dealers; then step back. I recommend everybody in the country regularly start threads on gun forums in your area about this. For example: "Gun shops where they seem to be glad you came in," or "Most helpful, cordial gun shops," or your "favorite gun shop." It can be approached from the positive side.
Thanks for uploading this hickok45! I don't live in the US. But its nice to see unique events such as deep in the US. The interviews and documentary about the knives and axes are great. Its right up your avenue too!!!
@hickok45 Thanks for showing this. I'm originally from southern Indiana myself and I'm embarrassed to admit I had never heard of this event till you mentioned it some time ago.
What a great change of pace on the channel. If you had mentioned Friendship IN to me I probably would have had a blank stare also. Thanks for bringing us along.
@jewpowers, I agree. We almost didn't take any footage. We just went to enjoy the place and stuck a camera in our pocket. John and I both were too busy shopping for axes and such to do much filming. We'll go up sometime and get a really good video of it.
I've been hearing about this for years now, as I got into shooting starting with black powder, never saw footage til now thanks a ton for recording and posting this! :)
I love stuff like this. Arts and crafts etc, but also civil war re-enactment style stuff. Add in the guns and this looks like the best way to spend a weekend. I'd watch hours of this. :D
Realy realy cool. I espesialy like the storys. The two blacksmiths on the end was very interesting. Learning about the old ways are funn, even for us young people.
I've always been interested in Flint-lock/Muzzle-loading Rifles... I'm 16 and I don't have a Rifle (Yet) but I've always been interested in 17-19th Century Rifles and the History behind it all
Very interesting video, and very well done hickok45. I wish they held muzzleloading spring shoots up here in Minnesota. Thanks for another great video my friend.
Wish I could have made it; I live about 75 miles west of Friendship, in Bloomington, and coincidentally have recently developed somewhat of an interest in 18th-19th century muzzleloaders. Maybe sometime within the next several years...
Great video. :O) I've always wanted to go to Friendship. I've been shooting muzzleloaders off and on since the mid 70's. I currently have a Clark Fraizer 'Matchmate' serial # 45 that he made for me in 1979. It's a work of art for sure and took 2 years to get. I also have a Jack Weichold heavy, full stock bench rifle made in 1947. It's a beauty too with tiger stripe maple. I've also had a couple of Lloyd Resor's rifles (bench & slug) but sold them to finance a motorcycle habit I got into. :O(
Sheesh, between the Machine Gun shoot at Knob Creek and the Muzzleloading shoot in Friendship I can't believe that I haven't run into you yet. Maybe one day at the Quigley Shoot in Montana.
Wow, all these great comments. I guess Hickok is right that not many people have heard of the NMLRA spring shoot. If you are in to black powder or looking to get into black power, this is the place to go.
Okay, so I just turned 18 and this is something I've been fascinated with since I was about 4. I used to live in Madison, Indiana which had a black powder competition for youth that I participated in(I always had fun shooting). Do you think I should get back into black powder competitions? Also, you should keep going back to Friendship. We may end up meeting out there one day.
I love events like that. Really enjoyed seeing the vendors. Hope you post more. One question: was that a "man purse" you were wearing? At near 7ft. tall, I bet nobody kids you about it! LOL.
@hickok45 I would like to suggest watching a DIY Steadicam video. It's an inexpensive device that can be easily made probably in 30 minutes and can help keep your camera shots that have movement in them very smooth.
Awesome video guys. I'd love to see more footage from that show. I can't wait to see which Hawk you bought. And, did you do any shooting while you were there? Great videos guys. Thanks for sharring
hickok did you go to the battle of king's mountain reenactment at king's fort in kingston TN? i did pretty nice got to fire a musket and all rather nice reenactment
@hickok45 - When I was 11 or 12 I was asked at a family BBQ if I wanted to shoot my uncle's muzzle-loader. "Sure," I said. I remember being given one of the balls for a keepsake and it must have been a .45 or .50 caliber. I don't have it anymore, so I don't know. Anyway, that thing kicked the hell out of my shoulder at that age, but it was quite the day that day, because my shot bested every one of the adults who shot before me. I knocked the centre out of the ringed target at 20 yards.
I'm from New Albany, IN, but now live in Ga. I'm just curious where Friendship is in relationship to my old home town. I'm assuming it must be between Cincinnati and Louisville?
Went to Friendship a few times back in the early '80's, out of the Illinois Free Trappers. A great party with some great shooting, too. I was called "Boudins" for my sausage making skills. My video response is from our '84 (if memory still serves) "Frozen Butts Rondyvous" and I'm the one wearing the skunk hat and fur coat.
@bandman232 I've shot a Bolt-action before, it is fun but getting the small 22 Caliber into the chamber was kind of annoying especially when your prone
The next time I visit the USA, no one takes me away from going to a civil war museum, to another in Western and buy 6 replica Colt .45 bullets. God bless America 👍🏻 (I have already visited L.A, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando & Phili )
off topic here but we just got a cowboy comiritive lever action and a bufflao bill lever action how do you think i should desplay them? sorry about the spelling
@hickok45 oh they're legal you just have to register with 14 different municipal, provincial and National organizations with the exact description of the weapon, your total job history, criminal records, mothers maiden name, your favorite colour the prime minsters favorite colour 150 in sequentially marked bills and all of this in triplicate. :P

Yeah, I hope to make it up there. I try to go the first Saturday or Sunday that it is open.

@xam113w, Don't think I saw any of those. Yes, I believe it's a late 18th and early 19th century focus (flintlocks & caplocks).
This is GREAT. I've been hearing about this for years from you mostly but a few others too. Thanks for the quick tour. On my to-do list now for sure. Gotta love this channel.

I love friendship even though I haven't been there in a few years! I have meet some awesome people from all over! i'm hoping to be able to go in june!
Connersville indiana here! I'll make sure to go to the next one and try to run into ya!
Hope there IS a "next one." The spring shoot was cancelled, and now the fall shoot is cancelled. Maybe spring 2021 will take place.

Looks awesome! Def going to check that out. Only a 5 or 6 hour drive from Cleveland..
Thanks for uploading this hickok45! I don't live in the US. But its nice to see unique events such as deep in the US.
The interviews and documentary about the knives and axes are great. Its right up your avenue too!!!
Thumbs up for Hickok. Thanks for leading us with you in this trip. Hopefully you'll do it again next year, with the camera, and John and all.
Just goes to show me living in the city you just don't see a lot of great history! Thanks for the video hickok.
@hickok45 Thanks for showing this. I'm originally from southern Indiana myself and I'm embarrassed to admit I had never heard of this event till you mentioned it some time ago.
Thanks for uploading this hickok45! been of non-American descent. Its nice to see unique events such as deep in the US.
Hey great video! I shot competition for 8 years and have 2 national titles from there. 1991-1992, long time ago. Nice to see it's still going on!
What a great change of pace on the channel. If you had mentioned Friendship IN to me I probably would have had a blank stare also. Thanks for bringing us along.
I go here too almost every year. I can't remember if I came out to camp in 2011 though.
@jewpowers, I agree. We almost didn't take any footage. We just went to enjoy the place and stuck a camera in our pocket. John and I both were too busy shopping for axes and such to do much filming. We'll go up sometime and get a really good video of it.

@Iceman5164, That's cool; I hope there are many others like you out there.
I love that tomahawk at 11.00-11.25, love to have a holiday in Indiana just to see this event, thanks for posting Hickok :)
Love you videos live about 5 miles from you in Cheatham county.
I've been hearing about this for years now, as I got into shooting starting with black powder, never saw footage til now thanks a ton for recording and posting this! :)
People are friendly and so willing to share knowledge on BP. Making your own powder horn, everything.
I love stuff like this. Arts and crafts etc, but also civil war re-enactment style stuff. Add in the guns and this looks like the best way to spend a weekend.
I'd watch hours of this. :D
Truly neat. I'm glad John even decided to return to the spotlight for a bit. : ) Thanks Hickok
I hope theres a part 2, 3, 4 to this video. Thanks Hickok.
Realy realy cool. I espesialy like the storys. The two blacksmiths on the end was very interesting. Learning about the old ways are funn, even for us young people.
@jthomps621, Probably so. Flintlocks to machineguns - how's that for a wide range?
i was just thinking hickok45. should like this. good to see more videos from you!

@fire1777, I bought one from him. I think it's my favorite thrower now.
I'd love to be at something like that. Thanks for sharing.
“Is that because the burn hurts so much you forget about the arthritis “
I understand fully
Absolutely awesome.
I love the craftsmanship.
Hope to see you this year Hickok!!
Man that is so cool. I would love to go there and check it out someday. It looks like stepping back in time, thanks for the video.

@hickok45 Great video hickok, I like seeing pieces of history like that. Some of those old guys seemed pretty friendly about what they had :)

Hey Have you ever been to the NSSA in Winchester VA. .they shoot civil war weapons and cannon.
I really want to buy one of these beautiful flintlocks....
@hickok45 I would like to suggest watching a DIY Steadicam video. It's an inexpensive device that can be easily made probably in 30 minutes and can help keep your camera shots that have movement in them very smooth.
god i love black powder. navy colt 1860 and Springfield 1863 are my dream guns.
Awesome video guys. I'd love to see more footage from that show. I can't wait to see which Hawk you bought. And, did you do any shooting while you were there? Great videos guys. Thanks for sharring

Looks like a great place to go. Thanks for the video!
@snowsniper8, Are throwing axes illegal up there? :-) Surely, the single shot versions are okay! :-)
@hickok45 - When I was 11 or 12 I was asked at a family BBQ if I wanted to shoot my uncle's muzzle-loader. "Sure," I said.

You caught a spoken word from Big John! That is right up there with a bigfoot sighting.
Good video! Thanks for posting.
Love this place. Go almost every shoot!
I'm from New Albany, IN, but now live in Ga. I'm just curious where Friendship is in relationship to my old home town. I'm assuming it must be between Cincinnati and Louisville?
id like to see a close up video on that tomahawk you bought. it looked gorgeous!
Very interesting video! Thanks for showing.
KUDOS!, Great job of capturing the spirit of friendship

@bandman232
I've shot a Bolt-action before, it is fun but getting the small 22 Caliber into the chamber was kind of annoying especially when your prone
@hickok45 What was your criteria for choosing one- weight, head size or shape, etc.?
I hope theres a part two to this???
Cool, video, I enjoyed that and very informative. Thanks
@xTacticalDogsx, Maybe you could convince them that you're going to start cutting all the firewood they need? :-)
I was surprised when I rounded the corner, by the blacksmith who you bought the throwing axe from, and I ran into you.
Any wheel locks or matchlocks or were they all primarily 18th/19th century?
So cool, would love to go there.
the longest range is only 500 yards.
do you ever go down to florida for big events like this?
The next time I visit the USA, no one takes me away from going to a civil war museum, to another in Western and buy 6 replica Colt .45 bullets. God bless America 👍🏻
(I have already visited L.A, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando & Phili )
