Agree 1000% about the version of I Can't Quit You on this album.
That first side is top notch

You are in the minority about ‘Wearing and Tearing,” most people I’ve heard say it’s one of their strongest tunes, and I have to agree.

Love your videos. I grabbed a copy of Coda when it came out. I was a senior in high school. I’m with you on “I Can’t Quit You, Baby.” Stunning! My favorite track is “Wearing and Tearing.” Substitute that for “Hot Dog” and ITTOD would be a stronger offering. THAT said, music is highly personal and I appreciate your take! 🤘🤘🤘

I am a big defender of CODA a album that gets misunderstood a lot. I have heard many people say they do not included in their "rankings" as its not a "real album" uggg that drive me crazy. They say since its out takes it does not count, well Physical Graffiti is full out past outtakes from albums so it is not any different. I do listen to this a lot and probably my second go to lately when spinning records. I too love the "soundcheck" version of I Can't Quit You Babe on the album. We're Gonna Groove is a live version and a song they would kick off shows with thought Page stripped the crowd noise off it. CODA is better than most other bands best album. These are all strong songs that get no love. Wearing and Tearing is punk/metal/rock wrapped up LZ style. All these tracks shine and us hardcore real fans know this. CODA always gets ranked last when people try and rank the albums, which just can't do. The 2015 Deluxe edition would of been even bigger if it was released in 1982, but considering the time and they just needed to have one album fulfill the contract term. I would think Page mindset was still in morning so he just took the songs that were done or needed little cleaning up to put the album together. Did you know Plant did do some vocals for CODA in 1982 for the album some overdubs etc. This article got it right. I have made a few videos on CODA check them out. th-cam.com/video/avAb3kdTXXw/w-d-xo.html

I bought this when it came out and I remember that awesome feeling I had listening to Poor Tom while looking at the pictures in the album. Zep had been broken up just a couple of years but there was still that really sad feeling that they were no more. I definitely agree on I can't quit you baby, far superior to Zep 1 version. Only song I've found myself skipping sometimes is Darlene. Wearing and Tearing is ok, reminds me of punk band energy. I still listen to Coda about as much as the others.

I believe the "effect" you refer to on Bonzo's Montreux was simply achieved using timpani, which are large kettle-style drums with a foot pedal that adjusts drum head tension. That and the steel drum overdub...

I was 15 & over the moon to get my copy.
I was not thrilled when I had my first listen
I was expecting more songs & heavier rock.
I have come to enjoy it much more with time.
While not my favorite Zep album, I am very glad I have it in my collection.
I would hate to be without it.

I haven't listened to CODA in quite some time. And if I do listen to anything off of that album It's usually Ozone Baby. But usually after watching your show and you're focusing on a particular album album. I will eventually
end up listening to that album after your show. I probably have more of an interest in finding stuff here on TH-cam on Zeppelin than actually listening to the records amongst your show. About a year ago I started watching a TH-camr that goes by JCM Led Zeppelin stories his show is well done he's a very accomplished guitarist and usually writes the opening music to the show. He's covered many making of episodes. If you enjoyed Zeppelin that much he's worth checking out. Looking forward to your next segment.

Wow, I just pulled up the Bonam solo from Coda! It brings back vague memories, My best friend Terry got every led Zeppelin album, Of course he bought this in '82, I probably listen to it maybe once, but I remember hearing this , and the steel drum sounds! Thanks for jarring a long lost memory!

Hey, maybe you should play your favorite tunes in the background while your reading your articles. I mean if it’s like an album episode like this one. If ya want, I’m just throwing that out there. Maybe people would like that or maybe not? 🤣🤘🏼✌🏼

I was so grateful to get this music. Those tearing this down, can they truly be called fans? Snippets from the bands history given to the fans rather than left on a shelf!!!
There have been a few other nuggets since then... how can you not be happy? At this point it wasn't for money, it was for those who loved the band and it's music.
Imagine an LP's worth of Beatle music existed, would you want it, regardless orvprefer it sit on a shelf unheard?

I think Coda has some strong moments in it and some wtf moments in it. I think the best song off the album is wearing and tearing. According to Dave Lewis who wrote the complete guide to Led Zeppelin music, they had to mix in some new guitar and vocals for that song, you can tell how Plants sings it in his 80s style of rock.

Today it’s stands in the middle of all Zep Albums ! I would prefer Coda to some of their other Releases! It’s not the Best Zep Album but also not their worst 👍

I love the way the instruments sound on this version of “Wearing and Tearing: th-cam.com/video/hi24uSjJRuw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5vd5stFUOtyjtrYg
I think it would have been perfect if they just did that and remixed or rerecorded the vocals. They made the instrumental tracks sound bigger on the Coda version, but it just never worked for me. It’s a reminder of how tough it is to do these mixes and remixes…

I think if Page had more time and a better frame of mind back then which he was still mourning. I agree that the Deluxe Edition content could of been part of the '82 release and had more of a impact for fans, even though the OG '82 release did have a impact for sure.

Since they contractually needed another album, & not wanting a replacement drummer, this is what Jimmy came up with. Rough drafts of songs, for whatever reason, they decided not to use.

It is meh. Listen to these tracks and listen to the actually released tracks from the same period. There is a reason why these were shelved. They weren't BAD - they just weren't up to snuff. Also, you are oh so preaching to the choir when you talk about enjoying LPs as a whole experience (cover art, gatefold sleeves, pics, detailed credits, lyrics, etc...). Elton John's releases were the ultimate in that Also, can't forget inscriptions between the runout grooves after the last song on an album side...
