- Earlier this month, Russ revealed he hit rock bottom during the release of his 2018 album, 'Zoo,' but facing that hardship eventually set the stage for his newest album, 'SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE.' The rapper sat down with Genius' Head of Artist Relations Rob Markman for the latest episode of 'For The Record' to discuss how the project came out of that “chaotic” experience. He also looked back on why he previously felt so close to death and shared his thoughts on systemic racism in the music industry.

The moment I found your music I was a huge fan at least before my senior year (2017-2018), possibly junior year of high school. I had never heard any hate at that time, and I truly admired your songs. During my senior year is when it was a widespread epidemic to hate Russ. I never hopped on a bandwagon, but later on, after watching clips of you speaking from what seemed like an extremely egotistical point of view, I stopped listening to your music.
To clarify, I never discredited you for what you’ve accomplished, and I always loved your music regardless. Another contribution to that was seeing the media and other TH-cam videos negatively portray you in the Smokepurpp situation, who I’m also a fan of.
Yesterday, your song, “Me You” - which I’ve always loved - came on and I listened through, and today this video pops up. I’m glad it did.
