those transitions are so cool omg, it makes sense that all of the valor surges have the same camera tracking but this editing looks like it's down to the damn keyframe
I'm so glad you give HFW's melee system the attention it deserves, it's still not perfect but it can be so fun and satisfying to use. I haven't used Halfmoon Slash for anything beyond chaining combos, so gonna have to give this a shot!
AHTANO YOU ARE A PRO!!! Haha I already love that game very much, but each time I watch something you make about HFW I learn a new way to have even more fun in the game. Thank you so much man!
More Melee is always good! Some minor corrections: The Recovery Phase can be canceled before Half-Moon Slash, it´s the middle attack/action phase which can´t be canceled. So what Half-Moon Slash does is: 1) Canceling in all three steps (Startup, Action, Recovery), 2) allows to chain the next attack pattern, replacing the first R1 input for a new combo and since it´s the start of a new attack, 3) itself can be canceled in the startup phase, which you demonstrated. As far as i´m aware, chaining Power Attacks is only possible if you haven´t skilled Aerial Slash/Jump-Off Combo otherwise she performs that, or did you find a way around? The Knockdown is listed in the Guidebook with "150" for Power Attack but due the nature of Knockdown reliablity, Resonator Application (which seems to allow for Knockdown of some Heavies without Melee Might III )is hard to pinpoint exactly. It´s also stated lesser attacks build up the meter, but can´t trigger a knockdown. Wish we could have visible meters for such stuff. If you want a idea for another small Melee topic: How Human enemy react being attacked with the spear, i.e. you get some hits in, then they start blocking, and after the 3 block they counter attack. How Blockbreaker which is 3 sequence long fit into it, pre-firing the combo (i,e, starting it out of range so the only the final attacks hits), and hitting the enemies back for a momentarily interruption of the blocking. Edit: To Knockdown vs Human enemies, standard enemies are be able to be knockdown, when they are at 50% health or less with Power Attack and Nora Warrior, some bosses are 33%. Knockdown Enemies in this way, die from a Critical Strike unlike when shock triggers and Aloy performs a critical strike.
Thanks for the minor correction Paris! For the Power Attack chain that I demonstrated, I had Aerial Slash/Jump-Off both unlocked. And I never once triggered them on accident... the Halfmoon Slash used to cancel the Power Attack's recovery was cancelled as well with a quick tap of L2 (it happened very quickly during the demo i showed, but if you rewatch it you'll see the aim reticle pop-up very briefly) which is what prevents the Aerial Slash from occurring the next time you hold R2 for a Power Attack. Didn't even know the guidebook mentioned knockdown values so thanks for letting me know about this! Wish we had visible meters for knockdown buildup too, would make it easier for sure. But I do think chaining Power Attacks is the most reliable way of triggering machine knockdowns during melee combat. I like that idea for another small melee video. I don't do much melee fighting against human enemies since they're harder to come by in the open world. But it would be cool to study those fights and see how they respond to Aloy's different attacks.
@@ahtano Ah you did the Aim Cancel, should work even quicker without the combos mentioned skilled then. One group of humans, which are often available is North-ish of plainsong, near the Clawstrider spot, take the campfire East of it. I like to abuse them, 1 heavy melee, but no riders/champions/Gunners. Some general Melee tipps: When in Melee Combat, the input cue in the background seems to prioritize Heavy Attacks over Light Attacks (not talking about half moon slash here), this can lead to thinking you did execute a combo but Aloy just doing a Heavy Attack and the Player feels stuck because they do heavy attack after heavy attack and don´t know what´s wrong. Easiest way is to dodge cancel, this resets everything, or be aware of it, and wait till Heavy Attack animation is far enough, that the the next will not cancel out the the Light attacks. Hunter´s Kit is also blocked till the end of the recovery phase, so the best time to reapply capsules is after a dodge cancel.
I shy away from melee in this game, but your videos are making me rethink that. I'm ready to get a warrior bow and give this a go. I'm also impressed by the time you've put into figuring all this out. Thanks, I appreciate it.
I love your playstyle man! It's exactly what I was looking for after seeing the Guerilla short where Aloy absolutely demolishes a Slaughterspine. Gonna try to adapt. I wanna play like this so bad.
.if i press r1 2 times its melee its llight melee attack then pause and r1 again doesnt make it a halfmoon slash..i need a explanation i understand cause this one i dont understand
Ahtano,I really like your videos. Since there are hardly any high-quality tutorials like yours on Chinese websites, may I repost your videos with proper attribution and let Chinese netizens learn from them? You know recently the Horizon is getting on pc,they will need this.I would be very grateful if you can let me do it❤
I'm sorry but I just can't use melee. It feels so bad and janky. The amount of times I try to do a combo and it just automatically pauses and does another combo pisses me off every time. I'd just rather stick to playing shredder builds.

Dude the transitions 😫
Your editing is bonkers. Slickest match cuts (i think they are called) I've seen. Thanks for the video. 🙂
Can we acknowledge how smooth the scene transitions are in the opening intro?! Great tips too!
It may be a smooth vid. But the melee move is almost impossible! Ridiculous.
Lol was just bout to say, that Valor Surge scene transition was on point!
Very well done Ahtano! Excellent breakdown and your transitions are on point as usual 👌🏼😁
I'm a Horizon lover and a English learner, your video helps me not only in gaming tips but also English learning, thank you!

thanks honest! yes by no means is it perfect, but it's certainly fun to use once you get the hang of it.
excellent video!!

thanks so much for this comment man! i really appreciate it... glad you were able to learn some new things from the vid
transition edits and combat styling are top notch.
Fantastic stuff. So much useful information packed into a tight video. I love this community

Those transitions, nice video!
Aloy looks like Senua in that Thumbnail. Sooo cool
This a great video. Thanks very much for putting this together.
Your gameplay is immaculate and your editing is beautiful, well done
Thank you, always appreciated my friend!
This looks so fun!
I'll definitely have to try this.
Great video!👍🏼
Thank you 😁
You make some great videos, love how in depth you get, especially when it comes to Forbidden West, keep it up!!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
All this melee tutorials really remind me of Monster Hunter. Great video!
Can't wait for your channel to gain traction when the hfw pc port comes out

How do you do those times critical strikes after grappling the machine?
Got back in the game after 8 month i forgot all game mechanics sad times

Melee sucks in this game
