Big business never realize that the content that people consume is/was created almost organically by one or a few individuals, be it a webpage or game/app and people tend to gravitate towards it, whereas they just want to create a product nobody wants for consumers to flock to.

Just what we all need, one more way for Zuckerberg, Musk & Co. to get in touch with us as we spend time in the actual, physical real world. I'm sure if people want to interact with Gucci or Nike then there's got to be some actual, novel way that we could all do this, some sort of large building that these brands could fill with their products, up-sells and other branded tat. Failing that, maybe just one of those old school WEB 1.0 website things, they seem to have done OK so far.

As someone who knows his way around tech and "the metaverse" this article is just terrible.
Some thoughts while I watched the video: 1:04 Ai can improve tech in general, ar vr as well as cloud computing but what do 5G and 6G have to do with this I mean it is a nice to have on the go but doesn't play into any aspect of the metaverse other than some future ar implications 1:42 you are not seriously comparing a marketing campaign in a free game (roblox) made for children (13 and younger) as the metaverse it has nothing to do with vr, ar or any serious social application. Why don't you instead show concerts in Vrchat or any other social vr application. 2:52 please mention the price point of 3500$ which is insane (this just seems like an ad campaign) 3:36 where are the results of this ambition I didn't see anything by epic games regarding the metaverse 3:45 seems like she isn't an expert on the topic. The term metaverse literally defines a space where you can do everything (from work to socializing)
there also isn't one particular platform the current applications are pretty "agnostic" Vrchat even allowing desktop and future mobile support.
In general you totally miss the definition of a metaverse and don't do a good job on selling the topic (especially for older people). This video also lacks showing practical implications of "the metaverse" and new tech. This type of journalism sucks and is very misleading.

So, this is just a boring version of VRChat. But while VRChat allows you to use many avatars and interact with different people online in various virtual environments where you can do a bunch of random and often hilarious things, this is just people being forced into commercialism.

You need to include criticism too. I love my VR headset to escape the world and it’s amazing what you can do. But it also over and underwhelming. For example VR Chat is cool but you have to understand it and get into it first. There is no good UI and everything is in its toddler phase. I haven’t touched my headset in months because I didn’t want to escape the world lately. During Corona that was different.

its way behind its time more like lol. 2nd life is way ahead and thats been out since 2003. utherverse is also way ahead and that been out since 2005.. neither have VR support but the avatar look far better. they look real if made correctly not the childish ones in metaverse that look like they were made by a 3 year old.

Never used metaverse but ive seen lots of youtube vids about it and all the reviews which r scating and saying how bad it is and warn ppl not to go near it.

The problem with the MetaVerse is that we don't have the technology yet to fully utilize the digital space..
For example real volumetric 3d floating images as most would call hologram imagery..
We're just not there yet.
we have since internet and PCs exist as proven by second life (2003). We have even affordable VR headsets. What we dont have is a need for cringy Meta inc. version of virtual reality.
The current Metaverse should be called "Childaverse"... I have a VR set for workout, but when I tried the metaverse, all you hear are kids shouting and running around..it's horrible. They need to figure out how to separate kids from adults in the world if they want ppl to stay and at least explore for more than 5 minutes.
I think you might be confusing it with Horizon worlds (which meta has mostly abandoned), the metaverse in itself is a technology platform not a actual standalone product. And yes crap like recroom and horizons is full of children because they are free and quest units are cheap. Its what happens when you lower the barrier of entry. You can avoid alot of it by just sticking to either paid apps or hardware restricted places like PC only worlds in VRchat.

I always hear of meta verse but never vr chat bra good or bad it’s more popular and have a fan base good and bad. If y’all have ocolus or any vr headset you know and seen vr chat and is way superior than meta ( i think it’s just Facebook paying for people to spread the word about meta even though it’s literally dead 💀)
Americans have a short attention span. The meta-verse is not a failure. Adoption rate for VR/AR/MR is simply being adopted more slowly than the creators of meta-verse and other VR content envisioned. This will change thanks to the Quest 3 which is the first most successful mixed reality/VR headset. Apple Vision Pro is too expensive but eventually, hopefully there will be other options at a price point that most people can afford. When that happens, The metaverse will be rightly seen as not a pipe dream but rather a crucial part of Web 3.0. Apple calls it spatial computing which is essentially their metaverse endeavor.
