If the rod or ball joint bracket is inverted, to disassemble. The struts lock in for safety, You need to pry the retainer clip up with a small screwdriver. Metal clip is on the end of the strut, surrounding where the socket snaps over the ball. Be careful to just slightly lift clip, don't snap it totally off or you'll lose it. Lifting the retainer clip lightly while you pull the rod off the ball will do the trick.
