- In this video, we headed down to Tai Hwa eating house for their legendary 1 michelin starred bak chor mee!
When it comes to bak chor mee, nothing will ever come close, be it the portion size, the taste, the perfect amalgamation of carefully measured components.
We initially planned to have 20 bowls of the S$6.00 portion, however, sometimes things just do not go as planned. Uncle had some other idea for me.
All in all, I still managed to hit a number I am comfortable with.

Tai Hwa never fail to amaze me. Normally I will eat one bowl of bak chor mee in normal shop but Tai Hwa BCM I can easily eat 3 of the biggest bowls!

Another awesome video featuring local food. I always feel BCM should be Singapore’s national dish instead of chicken rice or chilli crab. Because it’s something most of us Singaporeans have at least once a week, something that other neighbouring country dont offer and something crave-able especially after a long overseas trip. The one BCM that should represent us is without a doubt Tai Hwa. Yes it’s the vinegary type of BCM and more expensive, but the ingredients you get are of more quality than the usual $3 BCM. Easily my favourite BCM as well 🎉
In the 70s most BCM in Singapore taste like this. Now Singaporeans has to queue up like this.

probably partly cos singapore is a multi-racial society so it would be bad to have BCM as a national dish as Muslims won't be able to enjoy them or might feel left out. Compared to chicken rice or chilli crab which every race can eat if they are prepared in their own way.

My friend brought me there for lunch in my last trip in 2019(from Canada) n he waited for almost 45 minutes, the bar chor noodle is pretty good but I wouldn’t queue for that long.

Tried it once before. Super L-shaped queue as it was lunch time.
But I find it okay only.
I got the dry and soup one since already queue for about 11/2 hours.
Soup one is nice for me compared to the dry one. Dry one very normal.
If no queue I would eat it if I happens to be around that area.
I won't go there specifically to queue.
Eunos 5th generation bak cho mee also very long queue. Soup one is still my preferred choice. Tasty.
If I have bak cho mee cravings I will head down nearer my place in the morning at a coffeeshop at Bedok 123 coffeeshop.

Hello Zermatt since u like to eat noodles i am just curious have u ever try eating mee pok wanton at this halal chinese stall Encik Tan?. I been to their outlets at marina square and vivocity.

Yeah his color grading is the best by far - he's using a different lex from my PD
My favorite thing to eat whenever I'm in Singapore. This is something you rarely find in Malaysia. And if you do, it won't taste good. True SG food.

Actually, SG has lots of unique food like BCM, SG Laksa, and SG Prawn Mee. Always must kena when in SG.
By the way, next if in JB, try Sang Heng Restaurant for some good Teochew Noodles (Don't forget the spare parts and balls). Also if you're into good Thunder Tea Rice and Yong Tau Fu, go to Taman Daya - Restaurant Wei Wei Food.

Ahhh the BCM here is pretty nice but I don't know if it's worth the queue... ( you didn't have to queue???!!) will always eat if the queue is reasonable haha but good to watch you work up an appetite again!

This Crawford Lane it’s the one of only Tai Hwa BCM in SG vs various franchised around the island which belongs to Mr. Dong’s relatives n the Crawford Lane outlet (one n only genuine stall) it’s the best of the best in SG !
yes, this is now in 2022 best noodle in sg, i just went there queune and ate one bowl, (it reminds me when i was last time NS i ate somewhere same flavour but cant recall was it this tai hwa). is it also the same owner and flavour as that stall in honglim and in bedok ?

Everyone just know chicken rice and chilli crabs as the top 2 national dish. Bak Chok Mee was 3rd in the ranking done in the 90s. Maybe should have another ranking after 2 decades plus😅

Just some feedback on the audio + editing. Not sure on purpose or what but the noise gate filter whereby the jazz music automatically increases in volume for like a few seconds when nothing is going on while you're eating is quite loud and distracting. Loved the beginning old-school film effect edits tho.

FYI there is only 1 Tai Hwa noodle shop in singapore,the other shop is his nephew's chain ( Tai Wah )
His daughter has another stall in the same coffee shop but it was not that good.

Managed by uncle’s brother, with his son partnering a company/investor to do expansion in various heartlands. Hence quality might differ across outlets
