  • Lenovo's ThinkPad T480 is the very definition of a workhorse business laptop, with a killer keyboard and a nifty hot-swappable battery. (Just spend the extra bucks for the bigger power pack.)

    The touch screen in the video is not glossy. I confirmed with Lenovo that their touch screen is matte finish. Important to note that the T480 has the two battery bridge system so you can easily swap in a spare battery. Lenovo confirms that on carbon X1 if you try to replace the internal battery yourself you violate warranty.

    You guys missed some slots, a SIM card slot under the battery and a smart card reader on the left side of the laptop.

    As a current T480 owner, I would like to add some things that are not mentioned in the video.
    1. T480 comes with single heat pipe for CPU unless a dedicated GPU is ordered. With a dedicated GPU, you can get dual heat pipe for the CPU which will drastically help with the cooling.
    2. Between X1 Carbon and T480, T480 will do better in cooling when it comes to prolonged CPU intensive tasks, since there is more room inside the T480 to help with the cooling.
    3. For the T480, there are two batteries (one external and one internal), so you can remove the external battery without turning the computer off and put a new one in. The computer will be fine.

      T480 will still be running in 10 years. X1 is a Consumer model, a good laptop, but not likely to still be punching 5 years from now.

    I read that nasa uses ThinkPad on iss and I think that's great and not apple imacs. And I've seen scully type on one in early xfiles seasons and Jodie foster using one in movie contact. I like Jodies nylon laptop case and wondered how she kept it cool.

    So many errors...
    X1C6 get whooped by T480 in battery life as well as performance. You gloss over the fact that its hot swappable but actually state the opposite. Also no mention of the dedicated GPU T480 has. The statement that the Kaby Lake R cpus give no benefit over gen7 is also false. Theyre quad cores. And yes it does have a smartcard reader.

    Another T480 review that does not quite tell the full story.
    The T480 can be upgraded to 32GB RAM (not soldered), has 2 SSD slots and 2 batteries, one of which can be hot swapped. The X1 does not offer either.
    It's also available with a discrete Nvidia GPU and a WQHD screen.

    • @Scitch87
      @Scitch87 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The T480 doesn't have 2 full-sized SSD Slots. It has 1 SSD Slot and one m.2 Slot. So if you plan to put in another SSD you are better off buying the cheapest storage option and putting in a dedicated SSD. You can use the m.2 Slot for NVME PCIe SSDs though those are still ridiculously priced.

    • @agaskew
      @agaskew 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scitch87 Yes, unlike the X1 Carbon which doesn't offer this flexibility.

    • @nicholaswjamrock
      @nicholaswjamrock 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      both slot support NVME, one is for storage only while the other can be either storage or WWAN

    • @ivanvard6129
      @ivanvard6129 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Scitch87
      Actually no. It has 2 SSD slots. I don't know what do you mean by full size slots. If you mean old 2.5 inch SATA SSD, that thing is obsolete and I wouldn't call it full size. Both of T480 slots are for PCIe NVME SSDs. One PCIe SSD is M.2 2280 and the other is M.2 2242. Carbon X1 has only one PCIe M.2 2280 SSD slot..
      Having said that M.2 2280 disk comes with an adapter that can be removed and you can put there SATA SSD if you want, but why would you wanna do that when PCIe is 8x faster.

    • @nicholaswjamrock
      @nicholaswjamrock 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you bought the laptop configured for LTE (what it did) the LTE card will be in the 2242 slot. that effectively gives you one SSD slot. Though I wish they would have the option of having a SATA slot along with the dedicated NVME slot so i could have the LTE , the SSD and i high capacity Sata HDD. Oh well you cant get everything

    hi, i am going on a documentary field work, so i will be primarily be writing and doing basic photo and video editing, and need a solid built laptop. I am considering the options of t480 with i7-8550U and t580 with Intel i5-8350U. Will there be substantial difference in performance between the two? is there significant difference in their battery life? and finally i am reading the t580 is made out of plastic, and the t480 is magnesium alloy, is that true? Any other comments you wold make considering my needs. Thank you for your help

    Don't get Lenovo Thinkpad's. The laptop is alright but the warranty is
    useless. I've waited for over a month to get mine fixed. Tickets get
    opened and closed without the problem being fixed. The engineer has come
    out twice without the right parts. I call them up and they tell me
    someone will arrive to fix it by a certain date. The date arrives and
    nobody turns up. I had to waste a day to go to the head office to get
    the spare laptop. If it weren't for this being a company laptop under
    warranty, I could have taken it down to a dozen nearby computer repair
    shops and got it fixed within several days.
