I've always wanted to catch a Steelhead on a flyrod. Caught plenty of the "half pounder" Steelhead (which are actually about 2 or 3 lbs) out in California drifting nightcrawlers but hopefully someday i can make it back out to the pnw and get one on the fly

There's nothing like the fight of a steelhead - good luck on your next trip!

What weight rod was you using?

I was using my SRC6 (6wt) ultra fast action I built for the local Sea-run Cutthroat - I was impressed with its handling power!

Great job nice fish. Next time don’t show it dying and getting cooked.

Here’s some background on hatchery fish: The person I was fishing with is responsible for managing the steelhead population. Hatchery fish are specifically bred for recreational anglers and are intended to be removed from the ecosystem. This management strategy helps prevent them from interbreeding with the dwindling wild steelhead population, preserving the genetic integrity of the wild fish. This is why we practiced a "catch and cook" on this trip

Allison. It’s a natural thing to do unlike catch and release. 👍🇦🇺😍🎣

Hey Allison. Civilizations throughout the ages have eaten fish. You should watch something else if you're offended. Maybe you can even go murder some tofu cakes while doing it!

Hatchery fish are put there for the very purpose of giving anglers a chance to take home and enjoy a Steelhead without taking away from the wild population. If that was a wild Steelhead sure it's better to release it but don't bitch about someone legally keeping a Hatchery fish

Like everyone else, hatchery fish. Fish live and breathe and have to die for us to appreciate its life for our nourishment. It’s a cycle to be celebrated and appreciated.
