Enjoyed the video. It's refreshing to see a video that is honest about the challenges of fishing. It's not your day sometimes. But you take the wins as they come.
Big fan of seeing bad days too. Even if you get skunked. Getting a sense for how to think about approaching water is still super helpful to me as a newb. Appreciate you dude!
Brilliant, I never know what to expect from you. I started to believe Santa was questioning whether you were naughty or nice, but then you caught that beautiful brown.
If our banks were clearer, I would. You can barely throw a spinning rod, the creek is small. Imagine I could kneel back and just dangle and flip though. I've dangled stringers on my spinning set up but with no luck, so back to jerking.
Hello from Greece and ONLY TROUT FISHING. This video is wonderful. I can see your joy in the second fish. It's as if I was in the video fishing. keep fishing... we love your videos.
I would have thrown a black #6 circus pnut at that point. sometimes dungeons feel too large and I end up getting success when I see them chase a dungeon but don't commit, I'll switch to the black pnut and that fixes it. Glad you at least landed that one good Xmas brown instead of a sack of coal!(WV reference)
Always enjoy your videos. I notice you wear a sling pack or back pack to carry flies etc. Would you take time during a video to discuss some of your equipment and why you use what you use. During your videos, I also appreciate when you tell/show what fly you are using and why. Wishing you continued success.
Next time in east TN hit Stoney Creek. Not stocked great but some monster browns. Caught 2 monsters this time of year. Biggest a 32"er and a 28 in same hole. Night crawler though so kinda cheating. Rarely fish for trout with anything but a jerk bait or spinner. Watauga is great as well. Tail of stoney creek.
Happy Fishmas! Love your content. I get pissed when I see the garbage along the stream however. I'd love to do a clean up day with then a days fishing!
I really enjoy watching the parts of your videos where you walk through you thought process and how you approach the stream. Definitely trying to up my streamer game. I do have a question, do you strip set? I know you're very animated with the rod on the retrieve, and I'm wondering if that has any negative impact on your hook sets
So yes and no, I’m a firm believer that strip setting isn’t always the correct answer, ESPECIALLY on small water. Also yes the way I work the streamer does make it difficult at times to strip set. But it’s also the reason I catch so many big fish. Introducing slack into your retrieve allows the streamer to swing back and forth and gives the fur a moment to move with the current
Change your bad luck head gear OR walk your fish downstream, keeping tip up & line tight, take fish to a more favorable looking landing location with deeper water. Good luck!
The thing that frustrates me the most is when they follow it and/or swipe at it but don't eat it. Seems like that happens to me A LOT! Thanks for the video. No fishing here in central WI :(
Thanks a lot for these winter videos ! Make winter easier for French: fishing’s not aloud during spawn time. Quick question : with which rod are you fishing and what length and weight would recommend for this streamer fishing ? Best regards and have a wonderful Christmas
In my opinion you get anxius, this movs of the rod are not natural, better to move just the line or let the streamer just go down the waters naturally if you see that they are spoky, and man fight the fish until its tired dont go for it like that cause it a los fish point. Fod goes to mouth, not mouth goes to food. Some advices that where really nice on my fishing life. Nice video man
Big female. I know you fish West Virginia but do you ever get into Central Pennsylvania like Letort, Big Spring, Green Spring, Yellow Breeches and Trindle Spring and Hogestown Run? Hogestown now wild Brown stream and Trindle Wild Rainbows.
Well I have to be honest. It's not fished very hard. I know that the Letort has big German Browns. I've seen 20 plus fish. Very hard to catch. Very smart. My biggest Brown came from Trindle Spring. 22 inches 5 pounds released. Love to have you in the area to film. @hardmanfishing
I have a good question for you! I live in a place where all the rivers surrounding me are single barbless hook so my question to you is on your big articulated streamers which hook would you cut off? In all your experience of catching big browns on streamers which hook are they usually caught on?
Great video. I say post it all - good & bad. That’s fishing! Also, when wading streams like this, do you always use floating lines for streamers? Lot of those spots with pushy water up top I was wondering if things might go better with a sinking line to cut through to the softer water below.
@ just curious. I’m still figuring it out. Seem to be doing better now with sinking. But I see how well you do with floating and I can tell I am missing something else. Thank you sir.
Dude relax when you hook! Always head first when netting. Fish can’t swim backwards. Also be careful when trying to net in shallow water when you vacant get underneath the fish to scoop.
Is it possible to throw bigger streamers (circus peanuts, sex dungeons, etc.) on a 5wt? I’d rather not have to get a whole new setup for them but If a 5wt is just too light I might
@ nice. The biggest fish I could see myself realistically catching in the waters I fish would be 18-22 inches at the absolute max, and I wouldn’t have to be making super long casts since they are smaller creeks so my 5wt should do fine
@@mpfishing5530 Yep in that case a 5 wt will work well. It's the long casts that are difficult to make, so if you're just doing short casts it'll work.
Yes please! I was trying to watch how you do it, i hear it can be wat more effective than a clinch knot. Thanks for all the hard work you put in, these videos help tide me over till I can get out myself.
Ups and downs are part of the game! If you can't handle the downs you don't deserve the ups!!!! Great job as always.
No doubt! Thanks for watching
Enjoyed the video. It's refreshing to see a video that is honest about the challenges of fishing. It's not your day sometimes. But you take the wins as they come.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it
Big fan of seeing bad days too. Even if you get skunked.
Getting a sense for how to think about approaching water is still super helpful to me as a newb. Appreciate you dude!
Of course! I tried to keep some of that in the video this time. Glad you enjoyed it
Catching beautiful trout is wonderful
Not much of a streamer fisherman but I think I could learn
Thanks to the poster
Brilliant, I never know what to expect from you. I started to believe Santa was questioning whether you were naughty or nice, but then you caught that beautiful brown.
I’d rather be lucky than good! I guess Santa doesn’t entirely hate me 😂
love the sweater. btw your channel inspired me to start fly fishing
If our banks were clearer, I would. You can barely throw a spinning rod, the creek is small. Imagine I could kneel back and just dangle and flip though. I've dangled stringers on my spinning set up but with no luck, so back to jerking.
Heck yeah! Hope you’re enjoying fly fishing!
I appreciate you showing the slower days, gives me a bit of hope. Lol.
I should do more of it lol I just don’t want to bore people either
Hello from Greece and ONLY TROUT FISHING.
This video is wonderful.
I can see your joy in the second fish.
It's as if I was in the video fishing.
keep fishing... we love your videos.
Nothing better than Fishmas, And Christmas, And Streamers.
Amen to that!! Thanks for watching
Love seeing the hard days!
Glad you enjoyed!
Staying positive always pays off on the water great video!!!
Thank you!!
I enjoy seeing the struggle, as I often (always) have to endure as well. Great fish well worth it. Great video!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the struggle, I may post more similar to this if I can
Love it. Thanks for taking us along!
Glad you loved it! Thanks for watching
Your persistence really paid off. What a beautiful fish. Loved the Video
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video
May be ridiculous but ranks above the gingerbread onesie🔥 btw go up to potter county PA in the spring, big native brooks and wild browns up there
Thanks!😂 and I will in 2025 hopefully
Just wanted to say I absolutely enjoy you and your brother's videos on here.. Merry Christmas to both of you and to all of your family .
Thank you so much! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Merry christmas and a happy fish-filled new year John ,
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you as well!
This series is really funny and great to watch
Glad you're enjoying it!
Amen, great fish , God's great 👍
Thank you!
Me just watching the line wrapped around your reel for that first swirl! Killin me. lol
I do like seeing these unedited sessions; it’s good to see you struggle a lil bit here n there😂
I’ll try to keep more of them in as I go forward, seems like a relatively common sentiment 😂
Thank you sir! Diversity is key and I love that you’re not afraid to do all kinds of formats!! I’m defly a fan
loving the fishmas videos🙌
Heck yeah!! Glad you’re enjoying them 😂 it’s been a little more work than I thought to catch fish and edit a video every day. But it’s fun!
Definitely has been challenging, I haven’t caught or moved a brown in over a week here in PA
Motivates me not to give up on fishing in the winter
I felt like I was watching Where's Waldo throwing some streamers
Came here looking for this comment. Wasn't disappointed!

That's actually exactly what I did partway through this video LOL But yeah I got lucky to get at least one good fish!
Enjoyed 👍 SWEET BROWN! 🎣
Looks like the french broad, clinch or holston. Nice candy cane sweater. Merry xmas!

Lubię oglądać twoje fimy 👍 ładne rzeki i oczywiście pstrągi.pozdrawiam z Polski 👍🔥✌️

@hardmanfishing thanks man! Hoping to get out there and start playing around with more dynamic retrieves
As always a great video
Thank you!!
What rod & line you prefer?
I have full blown conversations with myself when I'm fishing.
Glad I’m not the only one 😂
Me too. Usually it's me telling me that I suck at fishing that day. Haha 😂
And then, me thanking the fish as I release it.
Days of the 🤠🎣🫶👍
Fishmas (troutmas) great video Jon. Maybe you start marketing the ugly fishmas sweater. Great series.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
@ 7:55 That looked like a big fish you lost! Must have been really frustrating.😆
Change your bad luck head gear OR walk your fish downstream, keeping tip up & line tight, take fish to a more favorable looking landing location with deeper water. Good luck!

That festive shirt probably why they werent commiting lol
I have better luck this time of year working the streamers very slowly
Honestly a good idea, the fish are usually just slower in general in the winter
Thanks a lot for these winter videos ! Make winter easier for French: fishing’s not aloud during spawn time.
Quick question : with which rod are you fishing and what length and weight would recommend for this streamer fishing ?
Best regards and have a wonderful Christmas
Lord, you scare me with that outfit 😅 I’m sure it gonna scare the fish too. Merry Christmas and thanks for all of your gifts over the years.
I think the fish were scared!! LOL Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas
merry Christmas
What is a good small rod and reel for streamers in small creeks
Dark colors on dark days
The tug is the drug. I count the ones that get away, as long as I can verify it's in the mouth
In my opinion you get anxius, this movs of the rod are not natural, better to move just the line or let the streamer just go down the waters naturally if you see that they are spoky, and man fight the fish until its tired dont go for it like that cause it a los fish point. I’ve been in that area before, even fished it briefly. But never to film a video
@@sclewell777 We'll see! If I made the trip it would probably be in the spring
Alright I'm now expecting a stud brown for every Fishmas video
Okay relaxxxxx😂 I’m going after rainbow trout and brookies next few videos

Welche Schnurklasse hat die Rute, auch #5?
All trout likes blood. A little touch of blood red or fish egg orange might help. imho
That sweater took their mind off feeding.... :-)
What's your rig? floating line? Leader length? Thanks!
Get them on the reel.
Brown trout I catch almost all do that and I call it an alligator roll too 😂
It’s so annoying 😂
I’m 13 and started fly fishing when i was 10 does the goat respond to comments?
Of course!! Hope you’re enjoying fly fishing
The sweater scared the fish.
Dude relax when you hook! Always head first when netting. Fish can’t swim backwards. Also be careful when trying to net in shallow water when you vacant get underneath the fish to scoop.
What rod you using there bud?
It’s a Guideline rod, I believe it’s the NT 11
What kind of knot, are you using?
Loop knot
When is closed season where you are
There is no closed season where I'm at
i believe anyone who fishes has seen slow days, I've had slower this was a crummy year.
White river Arkansas?
Is it possible to throw bigger streamers (circus peanuts, sex dungeons, etc.) on a 5wt? I’d rather not have to get a whole new setup for them but If a 5wt is just too light I might
Of course! I used to. But it’s not ideal and that 5 wt did eventually break 😂 but it took a few years

what's your rig???
I found Waldo!
I wish more fish would’ve found Waldo
Hail Hail the Celtic and the women Celtic are well Hail Hail 🫶🇮🇳🥳👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌😁👌👍
What reel are you using? Looks nice
Can you do a short loop knot tutorial?
That sounds like a good idea for a TH-cam short!!

Which i had a steam with bown like that
🎣❣️
Where's Waldo
He's fishing
Why not use the drag with the big ones?
