How fucking dare you mispronounce the fake name of a fake tree from a language we don't phonetically understand in a mythology with no canonical texts!? The filthy level of disrespect.... You disgust me, good sir.
This is the third episode where we've moved the intro to the outtro. Thanks to everyone for giving it a chance! The intro used to take up about 10+ seconds, and statistics indicate people decide whether they're watching a video within 3 seconds, so we figure why not hit the ground running? You've got 375+ episodes with the intro, and I'm sure things will circle back around! 1:08:59
*Sees Sal tease Thor in Back Issues on Twitter* Oh sweet! Are they going to do Walt Simonson's Thor? Maybe the recent Donny Cates series? Or maybe they will do the God Butcher storyline since Gorr is gonna be in Love and Thunder! Sal: LOL, NOPE!
I don't really read comics, but this is one of the best TH-cam channels around. Watching Tiffany, Sal, Ethan, and Ben riff and discuss comic books makes me want to pick up the hobby. 😎
oh my god Ben ya that's literally what i thought about when someone said Thor before the movies, Adventures in Babysitting. a classic if you were born in the early to mid 80s!
"im a dove ...im a fucking bird!" This episode is so fun you guys keep improving and staying true to yourselves which is awesome to see. Every tweaking you have done recently adding tangents to letters page fucking genius , back issues bites are enjoyable, the new comic line set up and format is great, and switching the opening theme around is such a small change i hadn't even notice it...and im one of the people who has back issues on all day no matter what im doing but since you've mentioned it...it works i get it
Anyone who is British and was forced to study Shakespeare and old English, HATES writing like that. It’s hard and to do well and easy to see when it’s done wrong. No one without passion and understanding of that style of writing shouldn’t put themselves through that.
Because Wanda Vision is so popular and you've already done the Tom King Vision book maybe you guys should do the Scarlet Witch book by James Robinson it really fleshes out Wanda and her complicated history and how she dealing with the fallout of her past decisions while going on a universe-spanning adventure. Love the show keep it up
42:30 Who else thought THIS better be the plot for GOD OF WAR 2!?! Thor & Kratos battlin’ it out over who gets to fly with the doves for 10 hrs of game play! IGN SCORE: 10/10!
Don't want to throw any shade, but other comics channels are like "OMG OMG GUYS THIS IS SO COOL" but 95% of the time Sal's just like "this book is SO STUPID" and this is why I hang out here instead.
I never read a Thor comic until Jason Aaron's run, and I absolutely loved it. I've been really enjoying Donny Cates' Thor too. Would love to see War of the Realms on Back Issues someday.
I love Norse Mythology... though Marvel only use the Mythology vaguely I’ve always liked Thor. I’ve read his stories from time to time I recently bought his Omnibus from the 80s & 90s
“My dear Vanessa when I was a boy I was a mechanic but these people they... they kept mistaking me for Thor but I used that hammer the mighty Mjolnir and smashed my fathers head in with it.”
Hopefully, you guys will do more Thor stories, either another one from JMS, or one from other celebrated runs like Stan Lee/Jack Kirby or Walt Simonson, maybe even the Jason Aaron run
I second this. Thor is one of my favorite characters and I always thought he was cool. His OG costume is the best there is and I'm saddened that people think that it's lame. Would love to see some Simonson run covered her.
Me: excited for a Thor back issues See’s: Thor World Engine Me: really... not To Wake The Mangog, The God Butcher, or literally ANYTHING written by Walt Simonson?
The Donald Blake discussion in the beginning is actually pretty funny since the exact storyline currently going on in Donny Cates' Thor series is dealing with Don Blake literally having been just a consciousness that has been locked away for decades since he hasn't been needed and now he's gone insane and has taken over Thor's life like Thor used to do to him. It's actually been pretty cool so far.
as i'm starting some 2nd watches, its really nice to not have to skip the opening, as great as it is, i was skipping it for years now so its prolly good for the algorithm that you put it at the end
Love 90’s episodes, they’re always so ridiculous and fun to listen to you 3 making fun of the insane writing and over the top art (some of it is awesome to be honest).
For what it is, I really enjoy this story. I am thankful this status quo didn't stick, but as a quirky curiosity, I like it. Weird and ridiculous premise, awesome and raw art by Deodato Jr, it's a story that I like having with the rest of my Thor books.
At 9 years old I literally read a book on myths and fables and found out about Thor and fell in love with Norse Mythology...... It was the story of Loki cutting Sifs hair and having to trick the trolls to get gifts for the Gods as retribution.... It was cool because it was also the hammer origin story..... A week later I got my first second hand comics and it was The Mighty Thor
The issues directly following this was the biggest 180 whiplash I’ve ever seen, Tom Defalco (who was one of the editors at the time I think ) was the one who wrote the “it was actual the Egyptian god of death Set” and fit more of a classic story. He also used the dangling storyline of the Asgardians dying/being reborn in a “the lost gods” series taking place during the heroes reborn year which was very not grim dark Ellis. I enjoy both writers styles but very different flavors. It’s all on marvel unlimited if you have it
As jarring as some of Deodato Jrs anatomy and cross hatching was back in the 90s, it's still so much more visually appealing than his 3-D-modelled art nowadays. He's still a legend though.
Ever since I was a kid, I always thought that "lame Thor" was cool as hell. I even ordered a late-80s Halloween costume of the guy, which I wore for Halloween when I was 10. My dad made a Mjolnir out of foam and cardboard, but someone stole it. Figures.
LMAO Sorry Ben, but the bark on an Ash tree is distinctly unique in comparison to the other trees. So if you came across one without it's jagged leaves, you'd still know what it is. If you were taught in anyway about trees/wood. For example, if you had a wood stove, you would also know that Ash is a *'softwood'*, like Birch (another unique bark.) Which when burned won't leave coals, only ashes. (Ironically). So is not very good for cooking over, or using as an overnight heat source. Ash (and Birch), being softwood, are very light weight in comparison to a block of 'hardwood, such as Maple or Oak or Pine. (and a person that works with wood often will be able to tell by colour and grain,(and in some cases, smell), what most woods are visually. Even when processed into furniture, cabinets, etc)
I say the MCU made Thor and Norse mythology more common to the point where different media uses Norse gods and Viking era settings. Because while in ancient times and even now People still believe in Thor like other people believe and worship in God or Zeus even before the Viking era. But even in things like DnD or lord of the rings and even the days if the week do take stuff from Norse mythology. Stan Lee even said he used Thor because not many people are as familiar with Norse gods as they are Greek gods when he wanted to make a god from mythology into a superhero.
Thor, the mythical Norse god, is public domain. Marvel's version of him is of course trademarked to Marvel. But anyone can write and publish a Thor story.
I had to quit comics in the 90's precisely because of this kind of thing. Yep. But it's good that you covered this so that we never, ever, ever have to make those mistakes again. Never forget... Never...
All be waiting for this when new Thor movie come out can wait for this of Thor the god of Thunder god butcher and the GodBomb but still great video as always keep up the good work guys
