We went to a dealership and looked at the Tahoe and Suburban parked side by side, we liked the Suburban for our needs because we like to keep the 3rd row folded down and use the extra rear cargo space the Suburban provides.
Looking at the new Tahoe I wonder if there was even a budget at all for this refresh. That Suburban’s interior is gorgeous! It gives Tesla Model X vibes with practical switchgear with the big thin displays and white/grey leather. Absolutely well executed down to the powertrain options. No matter what they do *gm* seems to effortless outclass the rest of the automotive industry here. It’s honestly amazing to watch in real time. Not sure folks quite understand the chokehold they have on this segment but I admittedly see why people fall in love with this SUV.
While I'd prefer a Diesel Suburban, the extra difficulty trying to fit into today's smaller parking slots would make me take a Tahoe, plus the large price difference for 18" of extra interior space.
If I’m going full size, I’m going full size. So Suburban. Tahoe offers a bit better turning radius and break over angle. But if either of those matter than maybe a midsize option would be better anyway. A friend has the Z71 Sub, that is a ski trip cheat code compared to my Wrangler.
Sub has a longer wheelbase and rear overhang. So the second row has a bit more legroom, and the third row has a ton more than Tahoe. Tahoe replaced the 2 door Blazer 30 years ago. It can fit in more garages being shorter.
Familt of 6 and my 2005 yukon works even with the small space behind third row but can only use some duffle bags and a suitcase with one of the third row seats taken out. I want a 2017/2018 regular Tahoe/Yukon to replace my ‘05. That space in those years has enough room with third row up for gear for a family of 6 so no need for a suburban or XL yukon.
I’d love a 25 suburban with the diesel , but I need to idle for hours a day with my job and idle on these diesels I’ve heard will mess up the DEF system.
Can you tell more about this? I'm new to learning about the functions of diesel & I was considering the 3.0l duramax. I'm aware the mpg's are better, but maintanence is a bit costly with having the def system.
Yeah, don’t idle diesel engines. That’s an old school thought. The more you idle, you more you run the risk of plugging up the DPF since it doesn’t get hot enough to burn off the excess soot.
Great video. Love the Tahoe and Suburban both! Only feedback when you compare the 6.2L gas vs the 3.0L diesel fuel pricing .. in my area in Indiana… diesel is about $0.50 cents less per gallon than premium. And about same price if not still a few cents cheaper than mid-grade gas. So in my area the diesel would be a better pick as it relates to total cost of ‘fuel’ ownership. I’m sure diesel costs across the country vary quite a bit and this advantage may not be true everywhere. Again, loved your video!!!!
I'm like Andrey and Kase from TFL, when they compared the Suburban to the Infiniti GX80, I'd take the suburban with the 3.0l i6 diesel, and boom, new, but expensive daily, lol. Though I'd probably wait a few years and a quite a few thousands in depreciation before considering it. As up here in Canada, they'd be $150K
If I was going to buy a big suv , I would get the Tahoe RST with the diesel , just for fuel economy. I own a 2004 Tahoe LT with the 5.3 vortex and right now she is a pig on fuel 16 miles to the gallon,in metric for us Canadian 16 litre per 100 km😱500 km per tank on a good warm day in the summer and about 460 km in the winter here in Southern Ontario Canada. Reality hits when you can’t afford 90 thousand plus taxes on top of that.
Ever seen a GMT1XX SUV from behind parked next to a Ford Expedition? The GMT1XX's rear end tapers so much, compared to the Expedition it looks like the Expedition is half a foot wider when the GM SUVs' width is wider. The proportions are wrong on this generation of GM full size SUVs
@@kenlovesMurica what “L”? I just like to remind Ford fans that find themselves on this side of TH-cam that they’re wasting their time. Not saying there’s nothing Ford has done better than *gm* I’m saying that it ain’t very many things and the idea that *gm* got the design & proportions “wrong” yet everyone else in the segment literally has adopted their design language and is imitating either a Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon - it means you’re delusional.
I’d take a Tahoe only because of the 3.0. The 3.0 is hands down GMs best powertrain. The 5.3 is a dog and even comes with lifter failure majority of the time.
LET'S BE HONEST NO ONE CAN'T AFFORD A CHEVY TAHOE PEOPLE BARELY MAKE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY THERE RENT EVERYTHING JUST SO EXPENSIVE NOT A INSULT JUST THE FACT OF LIFE
For so many years I fought the idea of buying one, always stuck with a pickup with a topper and made that do. I finally bought a '21 Suburban a couple years ago and it's the greatest vehicle I have ever owned, no desire to ever own a pickup again. I have a trailer (big one and smaller one) for those occasions when I need to haul something big and/or dirty. I should have broke down and bought one of these 25 years ago as a family vehicle when I really needed one instead of limping by with pickups for so long. They are way too expensive though, I believe corporate profit on these is just huge which makes it painful to buy one. Awesome vehicles though.
Neither. The 6.2L has a horrible record with lifter failures. The smaller V-8 makes them both underpowered. Diesels have too many tree hugger emissions stuff that will fail and cost a lot of money down the line.
@alexsmba I'll take cheap plastic interior I could care less if you take your crap expensive gadgets and I'll take the Excursion with the 7.3 liter diesel. Take your crap gadgets, don't need no expensive crap, a lot of times simple lasts a lot longer than your shit gadgets. Simple is better than over simplified and that's a fact. When it's cheap plastic like every car has cheap plastic exterior made from China I'll take the Excursion with the metal exterior in the end metal beats China plastic on new vehicles.
@@texandy89 lol I didn’t say I have a taste for expensive gadgets. The Excursion was a poorly built piece of shit. Yes it’s big, that doesn’t mean it was well made. All cars have sheet metal dude. The Excursion wasn’t unique in that regard. But if “big and heavy” equates to “well made” to you, then get one. lol

Tahoe with the Hitch luggage rack for road trips. They crushed this remodel!
Tahoe w/ 3.0 diesel for fuel economy, torque off line, tow our two trailers. But I'll wait another year until the production bugs are worked out.
I want a Suburban Z71 with the Duramax in that red.

It was a small refresh for sure. Important changes though.
Both look good. Do I see fog lights...? Yay for bringing fog lights back to these.
Tahoe. Both are huge but Suburban is going to be a bigger challenge in urban areas and parking. Beautiful red/blacked out trim - and great mpg!
It’s quite easy to park with the 360 cameras. I own a 25 Suburban.
Tahoe for me, (if these were my only choices). Even the tree in the background has the dead side leaning towards the Suburban.
😂😂
While I'd prefer a Diesel Suburban, the extra difficulty trying to fit into today's smaller parking slots would make me take a Tahoe, plus the large price difference for 18" of extra interior space.
Both. They are gorgeous. These are the best vehicles in the world. Period.
I have a 2025 Tahoe High Country on order...6.2L V8 is the engine of choice.
Looking forward !!!😊
I love the blue 5.3 !

I was about to ask what the difference is between the two. Didn't realize it wasn't that big of a difference

Tahoe replaced the 2 door Blazer 30 years ago. It can fit in more garages being shorter.
Neither can compete with my 03 suburban 2500 especially once she gets her restoration and Duramax swap🎉
Base suburban with the 9 seat configuration, and 3.0l diesel please, thanks!
With 4WD ❤🫣
Had no idea the 5.3L came with quad exhaust.

A gallon of DEF is like $20. There’s dozens of videos on this channel where I talk about maintenance, DEF usage, etc…

Tahoe z71 with 3.0l, and adaptive air.

3.0L is a single turbo not twin turbo and 6.2L has 460lb/fts torq.
Does the 3rd row recline? If not why are they the only large SUV that doesn’t? With 4 kids, on long trips the third row that reclines is a must.
I don’t think they do.
Tahoe diesel. Without question
I prefer the the 6.2 liter V-8 ZR 1 Suburban
Probably not two better all around vehicles out there. I’m thinking about it!

Oh please, nobody cares. Ford’s design language sucks so bad they’ve adopted *gm’s* design language. Enough said.

Yes, I misread it.

Suburban Z71
With a 2k destination fee... neither.
Duramax is NOT a twin turbo 2:51

Ditch the ugly horizontal grill bar and power them with 2006 5.3 replica engines
suburban looks like it rides lower

With kids obsess with there phone why would anyone waste money on the stupid screens trust me there a waste
My kids loved them and used the hell out of them. Why be a hater? To each their own.
Neither
Why did you call the open pore wood on the dash, Fake?
Are you sure? I may be wrong, but thought I heard it was real wood.
I could have messed that up.
I would buy a used Ford Excursion over any large SUV that's just me. Ford should definitely bring back the Excursion.
