im currently making a cardigan with yarn from Hobbii. the yarn is so beautiful to look at, its the manaya yarn. However, i literally found STICKS in it while working with it. like actual specks of wood or really hard cardboard?? has this ever happened to you ? i was shook! anyways loved your vid as usual🩵
I'm making a fortune cookie Christmas ornament while watching. I realized watching this that I don't try that many new to me yarns that often. I did try big twist value in the color merry and bright this month. I like it a lot for making hats on my knitting machine.
I love this video 🥰 I am working on my Tunisian blanket while watching ☺️ Three things for you to know though. 1. I think you need to get a Wraps Per Inch tool. This tool will tell you the weight class of a yarn from the number of times that the yarn is wrapped around the tool. The CYC uses this method to classify yarns into the correct weight. Most oversea companies DO NOT follow this standard. Hobbi, Ice and Hobium all have yarn weight classification issues. 2. Next, bamboo yarns. THEY ALL SPLIT, unless it is a blended yarn and there is a small amount of bamboo. Truboo is a 100% Bamboo from Rayon yarn. It is not made for Amigurumi because the nature of bamboo fiber is to separate. With most pure bamboo yarns, using a bigger hook is better. I think when you use it to make a garment you will see what I mean ☺️. 3. Last, KNOTS 🪢. You will be very fortunate to find yarn makers who don’t use knots for joining yarn. You can usually tell how far into the run the yarn was by the amount of knots in a skein, cake, ball, or donut. Yarnspirations owns Red Heart now so most of their products are without knots but do have weird joins I have to cut out. Lion Brand is pretty good about no knots, but sometimes their manufacturing people get lazy at the end of a run. The Truboo: Sparkle suffers from knots because of how they milled the sparkle with the bamboo. Really a beautiful yarn though. My mindset is this: If you love to work with yarn, then you MUST ACCEPT that there will be knots. 🤷🏽♀️ They are always a 100% possible occurrence. Once you accept this fact, it won’t bother you so much anymore. 💯🥰
I can understand why you don't like them but the Woobles and lazy days style yarns are my favorite. Lazy days is my preference over Woobles because of how squishy it is. I use it to make wooble-style amigurumi. I have a pet tomato frog that is the same color as the orange one so the first thing I made was him. Because I make small ami I get a lot of use out of those skeins since they're so big. I really want to try more kinds this upcoming year. I really want to try the juicy yarn because it's so soft but it is kinda expensive imo.
I liked the Lion Brand Lazy Days at first. But not for making anything with it. I used it to teach kids to crochet. I teach knitting and crochet online to kids ages 6 to 18 in 1:1 classes. That yarn is really good for seeing the stitches. I used it to show the kids how to chain, and make crochet stitches and so on. It shows up really well on camera. Then I found Bernat Maker yarn and it does the same thing. Also the Wobbles yarn ilor beginner crochet yarn is good for this. You get the point.
You tried so many yarns!! I'm impressed! I really want to try the Caron colorama halo. I was working on the Sitting Puppy by AQ Crochets during this video, in Chenile Home Skim (speaking of yarns of variable quality 👀).
Interesting video. I watched this morning and just wanted to comment. Since I don't do amigurumi I have not tried any of the bulky or thicker yarns. Thickest is Puzzle and it is Great yarn for blankets. The colors change depending on the stitch. Agree that it is not the best sweater/ cardigan yarn, too thick for a sweater in the south, and probably only use (if I did make one) the Jacks colorway which is shades of gray and white. I love, love Mandala yarn. I've made several blankets, baby blankets, and shawls. Love working with the 3 weight yarn, but do agree that some of the cakes have thinner yarn than others. I just keep going and don't let it bother me. I am currently trying to finish the blanket for my niece. It is made from left over cakes of Mandala yarn. I making 7 inch granny squares and attaching as I go. A blanket of Many Colors. Hope you have a Christmas!!
I am currently working with Pipsqueak from my state. But it is from the days of the stripes. Then each skein had many colors and they make wonderful baby blankets. I am glad that I bought a lot when they clearanced it.
Agree with you about Baby Bear, I was at Joann’s yesterday and they only had 4 colors 😢. You’ve also inspired me to try the Keche yarns (where do you get them?) and the Caron Colorama if I can find it! Thanks for the video, I appreciate your thoughts because I think we like similar style yarns and mostly do amigurumi 😊
I'm surprised by how many people love the Juicy Couture yarns. I've used two of the colors for a teddy bear (Notre Dame/Gold and Black Sparkle colors) and was shocked by how much the colors were bleeding onto my hands and hook. I'm starting to think I got a bad lot or something.
"We all know this meme" Clearly I'm old 😅 - Edit: anyway, currently working on my random color sweater with all the assorted single balls of workhouse acrylic I have lol
Have you tried any Loops & Threads yarns from Michael's? I tend to pick them up because they're cheap and I have a Michael's very close by. So when it's 8pm and I decide I want to start a new project that night, I usually pop over to Michael's. I've used their Charisma for a poncho and some blankets, but never tried it for ami. I've been using the skinny chenille for ami lately and have been liking it a lot. But I've never tried Keche only because I haven't seen it locally. I should order some... P.S. working on fidget hedgehogs right now.
@@Tfwcrochet Mine also! Don't feel to bad hun, I do stuff like that all the time so it's good to see I'm not alone and neither are you! Lol! Seriously though ever since I had covid my brain hasn't worked properly. It can be very frustrating at times.
I think they are phasing out the caron colorama halo cause colors are selling out on amazon and it's gone clearance online at joanns so get as much now while you can
i think a lot of yarn lines would skyrocket in popularity if they expanded their color selection (cough-cough, baby bear)
