    Southgoat would have been proud of the Arsenal set-up. Unlike Arteta though, this was Southgoat’s only dimension/geared the Arsenal players were 100% committed to the plan.

    You don't need to be a genius to beat Ange's Tottenham. Gary O'Neil set out the blueprint on Monday Night Football last year and since then everyone knows what to do. Ange has said he won't change for anyone and everyone has him figured out, so it's an easy win. Sit deep, stay narrow and compact, wait for the useless forwards to not hit a barn door and keep Son and Porro pinned back as they're the only players that can actually score. Then when they've flooded the midfield with practically the entire team, hit them high and wide then when the CBs come across, cut it back for an easy goal. Or if you don't want to do that just get a set piece, literally any set piece, the more you get, the more goals you score.

  • @simeonlow
    @simeonlow 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +167

    Love this, difficult to see these things during a tight and nerve racking game but the biggest take away is that Arteta has the tactical ability to solve a huge spectrum of challenges, even in the biggest games. I would argue that the only game he got wrong all last season was Fulham away. In every other game we lost he had us competing and often creating a ludicrous number of chances (WHU at home). He can’t score the goals for us but he cannot be blamed for our attackers not taking chances (Villa at home and away big examples of outplaying opponents but missing too many chances). He’s awesome, but as any Arsenal fan will tell you, we are so conditioned to clown show defending from the late Wenger and Emery eras that we cannot accept we have the best defence in Europe and still sit terrified in the latter stages of close games like yesterday when I imagine most neutrals couldn’t see Spurs scoring. Brilliant work. Thanks

    Arsenal fan I am. Brilliant analysis! When you watch a game you don't really notice the nuances that you picked up on. For me watching it live, I felt that we defended superbly, Timber was huge at blocking off the right, but they were all excellent. I was worried though about the spaces in the middle. Partey was slow at times and Jorginho was clearly knackered. Without a number 10 I was also worried about the lack of possession and how we were going to score. Spurs worked hard but couldn't find a way through. When we defended, we were very solid. A hard-fought win was how I saw it. Your point about the desire and discipline is what I'll take away from the game. Brilliant that we have that understanding and belief. We had a simple game plan that the players could follow; basically - defend together, stop them moving and hope for a break or set piece goal. Spurs were frustrated by that and when their plan wasn't working they didn't really have a plan B. So, maybe they lost belief and slacked off enough for the poor defending to let Gabriel get free at the right moment for the goal. He was a man possessed. Fantastic to see.

      Raya is the better keeper but Ramsdale doesn't deserve to have ended up at Southampton where he will be exposed to some horendous defending infront of him and be faced with a volume of shots that makes errors inevitable, he's better than that and would help a lot of mid table teams and compete for an England spot, I still think he's a better keepr than Pickford.
      a second relegation will be hard to come back from and I don't expect we'll see him at a top half premier league team again, maybe not even in the premier league at all until he's just accpeted a senior back up role.

    Arsenal's out of possession play was interesting. Think you can coin what they did as the "phase block". Extremely flexible (mostly by Jorgi, Trossard and Havertz) narrow squeezed shape when the opponents had the ball centrally then 2 on 2 defending from full backs and wingers when the opponents had the ball out wide. Possession rarely felt relaxed for Spurs even if they had lots of it because of Arsenal's dedication to block conventional paths

    Spurs are literally beating themselves each time. Not clinical or creative enough with the amount they control the ball in the oppositions 3rd and not fixing the same persistent issues. The persistent issues aren't only set pieces, but they're too open and got very lucky with the chances they were given Arsenal...and other teams so far this season. You're not quite right about Maddison and he has played deeper in general with Udogie pushing higher. The idea is to get Maddison on the ball and be that creative pivit, but it then means when Spurs have the ball higher up the pitch it's not necessarily the players they'd want on the ball. It's not Arsenal that forced Maddison's position, but more by design. A player that impressed me for Arsenal was Saka. His work rate was phenomenal in that game and not only tracked back but was effective in winning the ball. Spurs are just way too predictable in that teams know that there is SO much space on the wings and Arsenal did really well exploiting that, but most teams do and will do as it's easy haha

    I didn't like that gameplan. It worked. We have a great defense, and everyone worked very hard. I think we can beat Spurs the usual way.

    The genius way the ref gave Arsenal the win by not sending Timber off for a clear over the ball tackle you mean… 🙄

    Arsenal defended very well. Is that a surprise? They worked hard enough to deserve a 0-0 draw. Why has there been so little focus on the way Romero was marking Gabriel? I have no experience at playing football but I do have experience as a basketball defender. To me, it should have been EASY for Romero to defend Gabriel, especially when pushing your opponent is legal. Romero's starting position should have been further to the right. Obviously, my football defensive knowledge is not up to speed. What am I missing?

    If this was Mourinho, it would be called parking the bus, not genius or masterful
