" *Q: How many endings are there?* *A:* One. *Q: Then doesn't that mean nothing I do matters?* *A:* There's something more important than reaching the end. " -Deltarune FAQ
I believe there will be one ending but many paths to that ending. Your choices may matter, but at the end of the day it doesn’t make much of a difference.
@@kormannn1 i mean, at least in deltarune it's clear our choices doesn't matter (meanwhile since mass effect 1 it's said that our choices would impact the story, which in some cases was true except in the ending) Plus mass effect 3 in particular is badly writen + war assets is a thing
Just because "theres only 1 ending" doesn't mean our actions can't effect what happens before and after that end. People like to count all neutral endings in undertale as 1, but in reality theres like 70 different outcomes sans phones us about depending on our actions.
I especially remember the ones where Mettaon say us killing everyone was a good thing, and that he's successfully brain washed everyone, including himself. Sans and Papyrus are his agents... And of course the one where Alphies says that she hates us. And of course, the one where every important figure (excluding Muffit for some reason...) just vanished leaving everyone in a disoriented panic. Where you killing all but ONLY the bosses of the game. And the one where Papyrus basically became the king of the underground. XD I see SOOOO FRIKEN MANY fan games about the genocide route, and in all these years I've been apart of this fandom, I have never once seen a fangame about these alternate endings! \:(
@@lorrainebrunner2490 Well maybe the only one you could count is Horrortale, which takes place after Frisk's neutral route, but is in an ending where every Boss character is alive so...
@@lorrainebrunner2490 yo what?? Alphys can tell us she hates us?? I never knew that, I only knew that Sans hated us for Papyrus’ death. Makes sense, but I kinda assumed Alphys would just do what she did in the other neutral routes and end her life.
I was discussing the “one ending” with a friend the other day. These are my thoughts: There will only be one end. All these big and tiny choices will add flavor to the journey. Whether you choose to be an upstanding person through and through, or a jerk, you’ll still get the job done one way or another. HOWEVER If you choose to go against all intentions of the story and game by going full Snowgrave…You won’t get an ending. At all. There’s a post on Noelle’s blog thing about how she accidentally softlocked herself in a game because she accidentally didn’t get a party member. So she was stuck wandering in the final level forever. I think that’s what the Roaring will be. Just wandering in the darkness without an actual end. And it’ll happen because you killed/scared off someone specific you needed. It may be Berdly, it may be someone else. No actual ending scene, just wandering until you turn it off. It’s an “ending”, but it’s not an ACTUAL ending. Thus, only one actual ending is present. The Snowgrave route exists, but it’s not SUPPOSED to exist according to the logic of “your choices don’t matter”. You’re exploiting the game, going out of your way to break the story and the characters. What happens if you break a game hard enough? Well, you might not be able to reach an ending at all! Considering how much Undertale punishes you for going full murder happy, it feels like a very Toby thing to do to punish you for breaking this otherwise pleasant and uplifting story.
I know this comment is like, a whole year old, but lowkey reminds me of Mother 3's ending, but explicitly more "dark". It's nothing but darkness, and you can move around, but you can't even talk to anyone or interact with anything....
Something like this I think Genocide route in Undertale did. No conclusion, just Chara taking your soul and leaving you in darkness. The only way to end it is waiting until they go "fine, wanna start over?"
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said here. I'm hoping that Deltarune is just one big "Neutral Route" where you see the payoff of all of your choices come full circle. Hell, I want to see Toby make me REGRET fighting Berdly and paralyzing his arm, damn it!
I feel like that is the reason ch. 3-5 will be released together, as the consequences of saving/wounding/killing him probably can’t be fully explored in a single chapter.
@@marctaco2624 Oh, shoot. I didn't even think of that! I thought if anything, it would just be something simple like not having him show up for an optional scene. But now, I'm getting ideas...
@@TMSonicFan47 We live in a very small town, I doubt a child’s sudden disappearance will go unnoticed, especially considering we, Susie and Noelle were the last to see him. More so considering Noelle’s ruined mental state and our neighbors innate dislike of both us and Susie.
@@marctaco2624 what i actually think though is that the reason he wanted to release all those chapters together is to avoid predictability - i mean no one really expected what Deltarune Chapter 2 was after Chapter 1 dropped, right? i feel like if he were to release them one at a time the story would just become much more predictable and unsurprising with every new installment.
I wish you had talked about Swatch's lines about what drinks to give to each one of your party members, especially Kris':" For the human..." Implying that Kris and "Boss" are different people.
that would make for an interesting idea that Kris and the Player being separate entities isnt as much a foreign concept at least to Darkners as pressumed if we assume that Or at least to those assosiated with... stuff, like how both Seam and Swatch seem to know more than they let on due to their assosiation with the secret bosses in some way
@@MarcyTheKindaCoolWizard It certainly makes Castle Town seem more suspicious, what with it being named after the Player and everything. Castle Town seems to have quite a bit of 4th Wall shenanigans going on in it
An interesting addition: when you go fight at the dojo, the puzzle piece guy says something aling the lines of "Hey boss, you can use Kris to act!" I don't remember it very well, but the realization that the puzzle piece guy sees the difference between the player and Kris is suspicious to say the least...
I like how you’re bringing up the whole Neutral run thing! I’ve always thought the Neutral endings of Undertale were so much more saddening because Genocide really makes you embody the role of the villain, but in a Neutral run you could do everything you could to make them happy, and still you aren’t the hero of their story. It feels more realistic, like rather than murdering everything or doing some random stuff that turns out to be relevant later to freeing them all. And considering the fact that you have to do a Neutral run to even get the option of playing True Pacifist, or exhaust a specific kill counter to go Genocide, I feel like it’s the ending Toby wanted us to experience regardless of how we chose to play the game. (‘An Ending’ always makes me cry lol.) And I definitely think Deltarune is pushing us onto one route or another, forcing us to either recruit or eliminate instead of leaving us in neutral grounds. When I saw the Deltarune FAQ and read the statement saying there’s only one ending, I immediately thought it was gonna be something along the lines of a Neutral run ending being left open to interpretation, but now I’m not so sure. Love your videos though! They always make me think way too hard about this game- and I love other people finding obscure details that I can’t find lol. Awesome job!
Yeah, I agree. I really love the genocide-adjacient endings as well, because I think the themes and resolutions, as well as what kind of character the player is, is a lot more compelling and interesting. I do hope that DeltaRune nudging you yo the extremes only to result in "an ending" style ending is just another subversion of undertale. It's really quite a shame for undertale.
This has nothing to do with what you commented but, what´s the source of yor profile pic if i may ask?, i think it looks great and i would like to know who the artist might be
@@greggodeggo436 oh uh actually I drew it myself a few months ago! I do fanart, especially Deltarune, more than anything else, and Ralsei is by far my favorite to draw, his design is adorable. I’m glad you like it!
Idk bout yall but I just wanna explore the first area of the first dark world. It's creepy with the same symbols from the cutscene where ralsei talks about the roaring.
I wonder if one of the last two dark worlds will be really similar (or even be a revisit to it or a world that's connected to it) like how the last or penultimate (depending on your run) new location you visit in Undertale looks similar to Toriel's home.
Considering Mr Society went to this place to escape castle town, maybe we will see something about that place. Or he will tell us something he discovered there.
I always assumed that was just kind of what the dark world looks like when you stray from a fountain, the abstract barren landscapes between the actual worlds. Though the presence of the Titan symbols everywhere now makes me think it may be the remnants of some kind of ancient civilization, which *could* still just be what the dark world between the fountains looks like, or it could explicitly be part of the castle town dark world
i mean, when you think about it, undertale's neutral routes all have one ending. sure the ruler changes, and the underground is in questionable condition, but in each route frisk still leaves the underground, asgore still dies, and the souls are still missing. the ending's the same, even if the path to the ending differs. i think this'll be a similar situation with deltarune.
I did a neutral route a couple weeks ago with some really weird dialogue Okay, so I've been working on making save files where I acted different ways throughout the run, so I can see how that affects things once chapters 3-5 come out. In this save file I was trying to have Kris be as terrible a person as possible without going full Snowgrave, so I fought everything I saw, then to be extra terrible I did Snowgrave, but aborted it by fighting Berdly instead of freezing him. This cancelled the Snowgrave route as normal, Berdly teased me about raising my skill levels, Noelle was confused about why she acted the way she did but laughed it off, and I continued the Neutral route as normal. I fought Queen, Berdly broke his arm, and we woke up back in the Computer lab and Noelle and Berdly hurried off as normal. I thought everything was just as it was in other Neutral routes I'd done, until I visited Noelle in the hospital. The blue peg in the hospital waiting room thing was broken. And when I went to visit Noelle and Rudy, Noelle was using the iceshock spell in her game. And she had the spooky dialogue outside the hospital room with Kris where she was assuring herself it was just a dream. So this is really interesting to me, because I have a neutral run where Berdly is still very much alive, albeit with a broken arm, but Noelle is still traumatized by her actions in the city, and she's still wearing the Thorn Ring and knows the Snowgrave spell. And I wonder how this will affect things in the upcoming chapters. EDIT: After looking at the flags, my aborted snowgrave route somehow turned into the world's most normal looking snowgrave route with 1 pipis kill. This doesn't make any sense. So my new theory is that MID-GAME my completed chapter 2 save data from when I did a Snowgrave route a couple years ago, somehow overwrote this file in freak glitch. I have no way to replicate this freak glitch of the completed chapter data overwriting a normal save, and I have nothing to show for it as my flags don't remember anything I did in the aborted run like the boat ride with Ralsei. This is just the best explanation I can think of and honestly I'm just still kind of upset that the flags don't remember anything I actually did in chapter 2. Oddly only the chapter 2 flags were overwritten by this glitch. The game still remembers my chapter 1 flags like the banana themed Thrash Machine I made (Banana Tank™) and that I got the Devilsknife for Susie. The completed Snowgrave route I did a couple years ago I did right after chapter 2 came out, it didn't have any chapter 1 data associated with it so I guess it makes sense that it left my chapter 1 data intact? I just want to emphasize because this is crazy, I deleted that Snowgrave run that I did when chapter 2 came out. It no longer existed except for in the chapter completion data that I forgot about. And somehow when I saved in Castle Town (this is my best guess for when the swap happened) on a completely different run, this completed save data overwrote all of my chapter 2 flags. Without me ever even closing the game or messing with the files or anything. Which turned my violent aborted snowgrave run into a normal Snowgrave run I didn't ask for.
I'd always wondered what would happen if you did enough to teach Noelle Snowgrave but didn't kill Berdly because I figured she'd logically have to still notice the signs that the dark world wasn't a dream, especially since Berdly's arm is broken. It was always weird to me that no one seemed to try it or even talk about it. What will Noelle do in future chapters if she's been manipulated into doing all those terrible things but she hasn't been pushed to her breaking point & has been set free to put all accountability on herself? Will she redeem herself now that the voice is gone or will she turn out even worse because the voice left her to pick up the pieces. What if the voice comes back? Will she rebel against it? What if someone says "proceed" by coincidence at a really inoppportune time? Will that trigger her?
I tired get the hospital scene with cancelled Snowgrave but I got the regular dialogue. I did everything as you said, however I took the Thorn Ring from Noelle before she left the party the final time and I didn't fight Spamton Neo because fighting him at the dumpster locks you out of his shop.
@@ion4393 I wonder if Noelle still wearing the Thorn Ring is what triggers it then because I never took it off her. Spamton could also be what changes this since I spared him during the first fight so I could fight him for the PuppetScarf later. But Noelle wearing the Thorn Ring is likely what causes the game to or not to have the Snowgrave dialogue.
The "Sounds like... scratching?" thing in the code, presumably set in a dark place, why don't people see that it is the house with the eyes? (in hometown) It's dark, and scratching noises are coming from the inside.
In the light world? You could be right, but my guess is more like someone being in the dark world, literally somewhere dark within. I also guess it to be Dess, taken into the dark world by someone, and my other guess is that it was Mike or someone connected to Mike, because for some reason I also feel Noelle was present or has some connection to how or who Dess was kidnapped by, with Noelle’s two texts saying how Spamton’s shop is something like nostalgic to her, which we all know because of Snowgrave, but for me the solid idea comes from when you make her equip Dealmaker, and she says that they seem familiar. Spamton is connected to Mike, and Mike could be someone who took Dess into the dark world, or helped someone who did, or who knows.
i just learned a really interesting obscure bit of dialog today... if you check asriel's dresser in chapter 1 you get different dialog of whats inside depending on the file youre using. file 1 has a torn cross-country shirt, file 2 has a school ID with a bad haircut, and file 3 has expired pizza coupons. its the only example we have currently of there being difference between save files
@@Epsicronics as far as im aware there isnt yet, but i think this is probably a hint that there will be in the future. my theory is that were going to have to reach an end in all 3 save files in order to unlock the true ending: a run where we get all recruits (berdly wakes up fine), a run where we attack enemies (berdly hurts his arm), and a run where we do a weird route (berdly dies). something else that i think is significant to this theory is the fact that the faces of the 3 titans in ralsei's story look kind of like save points, im positive thats not a coincidence
Before I watch I want to guess that in this video is going to have the interaction where Noelle pets a Tasque and says something like "It's a lot like petting Catti" To get this you have to start up a snowgrave route and then abort it on a Tasque because otherwise Noelle is never in your party when you meet one of those darkners in particular But it is VERY IMPORTANT LORE because it means NOELLE PETS CATTI SOMETIMES. That is HUGE NEWS. Edit: This was not in the video but I will repurpose it as my obscure Neutral Route dialogue. Bring Noelle to a Tasque and have her use an ACT on it to see Second Edit: Oh, I have another one. If you defeat a Tasque in the battle with Tasque Manager, she will go berserk and her Spare Meter will immediately empty. From then on, any ACTS used on her will fail outright, which is a very obscure interaction. However, it's actually still possible to Spare her at this point, though, by spamming the Spare command over and over to raise the meter 5% at a time. To discover this, you would need to be fighting and sparing enemies within the same battle. For this reason, it is incredibly obscure and I have never seen anyone mention it; specifically the part about how you can spare her after this If you think you've done everything there is, trying to spare her in this manner can actually be quite an interesting and fun fight! Enjoy your time fighting a psuedo-boss you've probably never even considered
@@zixvirzjghamn737 To clarify, it's just Noelle's dialogue when using X-Petting Tasque with Kris. So, not a separate cutscene afterwards or anything. But she DOES have a hidden ACT that only occurs when you spawn in a Tasque with her in the party
@@evervirescent I did try that, and iirc she doesn't show up at her usual place. Unless I missed something, she seems to be recruited, but doesn't appear It's been a while since I checked, so I may be totally misremembering or I might just be stupid and have missed her new location. I think you still get the Rematch in the dojo despite her not appearing. It might be that there will come something later of this, if not in the chapters we have right now... It would be strange for her to just be dropped from Castle Town entirely. It should also be possible to recruit her on a Snowgrave Route - You are locked in once you are on it, and you should be able to spare her in the fight - but I kind of don't want to do a Snowgrave Route to test that, haha.
6:42 - Having one ending doesn't mean having one route!!! We already have two. There is no way that Berdley death and Noelle trauma won't affect anything at all in the future chapters.
@@rich_gamer0667 So okay, but he would die in a different part of the story, meaning there still would be changes. In snowgrave route he would not appear at all then.
@@Disorder2312 exactly, he would not appear and he would still be dead. This wouldn't change the ending becouse as we can see even in different routes the characters maintain their act, like Noelle gets more confident. Let's say that berdly would be needed for helping Noelle move on in case her father died. In that case in snowgrave she would be less attached to her self becouse of LV and wouldn't need Berdly. So either way it would stay the same
When people complain about the single ending, they forget that deltarune was made BECAUSE of the ending that Toby dreamt, so he probably doesn't want to diverge from that one ending.
I absolutely adore how much editing and custom sprites you put in your videos. Even if you are overthinking certain parts or something may be wrong, the passion is there!
it’s true, there’s something more important than reaching the end and that is the adventure itself. it’s really special because even though deltarune will have 1 end, the way we will earn it will be special for everyone, everyone will make it by their own gameplay choices and i think that this is the best way to experience the game
I always forget just how detailed Toby Fox is. There could definitely be some dialogue that'll only be found through digging through the game files. And by that, I don't mean like the dialogue of the person stuck in the void, I mean because the requirements to see the dialogue is just too specific
I'd love to see a cute easter egg where the wandering recruits all lift up the Bloxer as chapters go on, to compensate for his lack of extra pants. Great video as always!
At the end of the day, no matter what you do, no matter how hard you try to break free from your predetermined path, you're still going to end up saving the world and being the hero of the prophecy. The beads march grimly along their path. Things might be different depending on your actions - people will be happier if you did the right thing, or worse off if you didn't, but the world still gets saved and the prophecy is still fulfilled. Unless. By taking an extraordinarily specific sequence of steps, through trial and error, with guidance from like-minded individuals, you can carry out the Weird Route. Through excessive trial and error you can push the world to its absolute limits, break the story you're being told, and "choose your own path". You can achieve a new ending. But don't blame the game when you end up crying in a broken home, wishing you let your old pal Spamton [kill] you. Freedom isn't free. It comes at a cost. The ending you achieve from doing this won't be happy. It won't be satisfying. There was a satisfying ending available for you right there, but no, you rejected it, you wanted more. So there you have it. Here's your "special ending".
Followed by a scene of Susie stopping the Roaring playing faintly in the background as you sit solemnly in an empty space, with all the power and freedom in the world but not a friend or foe left beside you. But now you are free, free to witness the end credits with your own eyes, unbound by the thread of fate that bonds you to an unwilling vessel.
kinda reminds me of the stanley parable. you can do everything you're told to and get a happy ending, or insist on choosing your own path and get...something else
I think when Toby says it will have one ending, that just means we can't change the actual events that happen. But that doesn't mean we can't change the way they happen or the characters they happen to. Like, in a way Undertale only really has 3 endings. Pacifist, Genocide and Neutral. Even though there's a variety amongst the Neutral "endings", it's all technically the same: Frisk leaves the underground and you get a call telling you how things are going for everyone you left behind. But what the call is about and how your actions affected the monsters is what changes, and in that regard there's like 40 endings. So, maybe for Deltarune there's only neutral endings. You save the world or w/e and then you get a different cutscene/dialogue epilogue depending on your actions throughout the game. You can't _not_ save the world, so technically there is only 1 ending.
I think you could be right That seems to be the only constant We have no choice in sealing the fountains... It happens at the end of every chapter no matter what There seems to be no special requirements to sealing them, just that we get to them, no matter what way we got to them.
@@WhoStoleKirya73 it could also be a deception. I mean we've already seen how our decisions change the game somewhat. It's hard to say what exactly "one ending" will mean.
I think the "one ending" deal is deception. It'd be hard to really put all my thoughts on how the game's going to end in one comment, but I think that there's going to be at least 2 distinct different endings, with one being like the neutral route from undertale where all your choices come full circle and the other being the 'real' ending. I dont think the 'real' ending is going to be a true pacifist ending, nor do I think it's gonna be a full genocide / weird route ending. I think to get the 'real' ending and make a difference in this world where choices don't matter, you have to do a mix of weird route destiny-breaking shenanigans and a mix of...not that. All to ensure that at the end, all the puzzle pieces on the board are laid out exactly as needed in order to do whatever is needed to prevent The Roaring, or whatever ends up being the main conflict at the end.
So far, I feel Toby hasn't pulled anything too meta compared to Undertale. Thus, I think it is possible he might hit us with "the only real choice is not to play" and the "true ending" will involve closing the game and letting Kris free. And then we get like a .txt file in the game folder with all the characters thanking us.
@@jbdbibbaerman8071 And just sounds... not satisfactory at all imo unless its after a fairly climatic event and AT LEAST some opportunity to directly resolve things with Kris
It's not about the destination, it's about the journey, y'know? Yeah there's just one ending, but we should get to have some varying experiences on the way there.
I really agree with you on the neutral runs being unappreciated, to this day I think that those secrets might be some of the least documented. I literally only just recently found out about the secret with Sans removing Papyrus' present from the Christmas tree. Suggestion: You should make a video covering neutral route secrets
7:44 On deltarune chapter 1 if you do a neutral route, when you get to the king castle and get to the [uh that first enemy] room, he says you can't compensate for attacking him, but the game let's you apologize, and if you do it tells you that the agresion to a single [enemy] was pardoned
a really obscure line of dialogue is if you open jevils door and go back to Sean before fighting him. i dont know if you had to have talked about jevil to him or not, though
The way I see fate can be summed up in one phrase: all rivers lead to the same ocean. I hope Deltarune follows the same philosophy, where there's countless branching paths, making the experience unique for each player, but ending in a single way with variations.
I think this might be known already, but I got a special dialogue from Seam in my Pacifist Route: Basically did what everyone does and recruit everyone, but I didn't fought Spamtom NEO. I was eager to see the story of Queen and Noelle unravel so much that I forgot the LoadedDisk on Kris's Pocket. Long story short, if you talk to Seam in Castle Town without collecting Ch2's ShadowCrystal, he'll laugh as always, but if you try to talk to him a second time, he warns you saying "• It's getting quite late, isn't it? Better say your goodbyes and head home... • ...you don't want anyone to see you when the sun goes down" I haven't seen any other playthroughs of people missing Spamtom's fight and talking to Seam, so might as well put it here
I'm not sure how weird it is but I know one branching line of dialogue with Noelle about nutcrackers you can get in the mouse room 2, you have to get her spooked so she's not following you and talk to her, I say it's weird since you CANNOT finish the pluzze even if you scare her and also bcuz it's a whole branching option dialogue.
Tbh, and maybe this is just me overthinking or projecting, I feel like if Toby goes through with not having the same degree of path endings as there were in Undertale, that the decision is a direct response to how massively publicized the genocide route became. That route always felt to me like it was supposed to be tucked into the bottom of undertale, a dark underbelly that you have to turn things over to find. But now the Sans fight is considered almost a right of passage for pretty much any popular streamer who plays Undertale. While I think toby has taken this in stride rather than resenting it, I feel like he's going to go forward with the knowledge that something like Snowgrave is going to be heavily publicized.
The Steam description (Which says "Only one Ending?") has officially put Toby's statement about there only being one ending into question. And both of the major things that logically seem like they should lead to a different ending, the Secret Bosses and Snowgrave, are actively hidden, unlike in Undertale. So it's likely the entire "only one ending" thing was just a ploy to not spoil the secretly hidden alternative endings that will exist.
I feel like the "one ending" is more like "one result". Kind of like how you can't change destiny or something you can change how you arrive at the result but not the result in and of itself. Kind of like Steins;Gate or something where you can do tons of different things but you always reach the same end result.
@@user-lh7mt7zo7l so either everyone dies in every ending, the time line gets resetted, or we stop the roaring, or Kris dies or we get separeted from them, or seal all the dark fountains This could be the ends of the game
I just hope that when Toby releases chapters 3-5 he does it with like 1 week or 1 month of separation between chapters so that way we can have time to talk and theorize and not just speedrun the whole 3 chapters so we don't get spoiled :)
Absolutely! Part of the enjoyment is community discussion. I also have a feeling it’s better to release one at a time so Toby can progressively patch bugs. Idk if that’s how it works though …
I have been confused for a while, to my knowledge Deltarune has a FUN mechanic. I have seen variations in several prices of dialogue including a case where my older brother found the police type in town had nyeheheh on it instead of the usual. I've honestly been scared to mention this as I'm worried people won't believe but I feel like it's something I should make known.
@@cuozannt Sadly no, it was their first playthrough so they didn't know it was different and when they went back it was the normal text again. Your probably right that it's just certain things have a chance of being different rather than a full on FUN value.
talking about diverging neutral routes and playing how you want, theres a very fun playstyle i learned, i its a "offensive passifism" where you adobt a offensive playstyle, defeating bosses through attacking instead of acting and even FIGHT enemies, while recruiting them through the tired mechanic, its really fun and more challenging since you also have to be carefull to not loose a recruit. I also have a save file where i played everything blind, and i'll continue using it, i may have not done everything there, like defeating neo spamton but thats the fun of it.
Great point! I think the real reason so many people objected to Neutral? routes (especially in Undertale) is how depressing they were (often more so than No-Mercy.) Also people didn’t consider other endings cannon, but personally I think any play style is valid, otherwise Toby wouldn’t have made them possible.
Hmmmmmm I really thought he's going to talk about Seam's line where he says that you "should hurry home once your business here is finished" because you "don't want to get caught when the sun goes down". (These may be not the exact quotes)
@@zixvirzjghamn737 I think he says it if you talk to him a couple of times when you return to the castle town after defeating Queen. Also it has to be on the file where you haven't beaten neither Spamton nor Jevil .
I hope that Deltarune will have two endings. The normal one (a big neutral ending) and the weird route. Because of the game often tries to tell you "your choices doesn't matter" So you are always fighting the same bosses or minibosses like the King or Queen. But not in the weird route. It just feels like you're tearing yourself away from the normal.
I don’t think Toby would lie. When he says there’s only one ending, it’s likely whatever happens in the finale is basically the same and it’s just the small changes we do throughout that are the variations. It’s likely the weird route has the same ending that’s out of our control, but the changes are significantly more drastic to account for the really terrible things you cause. I think the “ending” is Kris regaining control and choosing the ending they want, so it could be the same despite all the variations we cause.
I think the overall ending will take a similar route as the ending to chapter 2. Whether you kill Berdly or not, the same cutscene still plays at the end. So, technically there is only 1 ending as promised but player choices still do matter elsewhere
I honestly love this. And I completely agree that the neutral runs are underrated, tho I get it since there are like... 90 of them and obviously the genocide and pacifist routes are, like you said, the more objectively interesting ones. Maybe I'll replay Deltarune one day when im feeling nostalgic and get this dialogue, tho that would mean having to fight jevil again..
Im a firm believer in the one ending idea, I believe that it's more about the journey, how we interact with the characters and the decisions we take. I also wish to believe snowgrave will be a singular event and it means nothing, turning it into a bigger horror.
So it is indeed one of the most obscure, but only before before most of us saw or shared it? If that's where we're at, I'm doubly excited for whatever secret that will be found next!
this is a small thing and you probably already know this, but during the second berdly fight noelle will say “he hit me in the face with a tornado” once you beat him. however if you made sure that noelle didn’t get hit, she won’t say it. she also says it when she’s hit by something else, not a tornado.
3 days late, mad at my youtube algorithm for not putting you in the first slot but i gotta say, these videos give me that dopamine rush and i'm always so excited to watch these, so keep doing whatcha do, man
My prediction was that there's going to be one ending that's slightly effected by our choices. All the stuff people keep talking about like Gaster, the Angel, the Titans, the Secret Bosses, the Knight, etc. It all seems like it's kinda heading towards one point to me, tho to be fair I understand that's more of my subjective POV of the games story
Honestly, it is great to see the Neutral routes and how they are ignored being talked about. Like everyone here seeing how much you can discover from the characters we befriend, how meaningful they are to their surroundings when they are "missing". And see how they act under stressful situations, particularly when fighting and under the pressure of being the new monarch of the underground. And not to count how many other little things can change when we go outside the expected endings where we only take one single decision (Kill or not kill). And is even more ironic since for you to have a True Pacifist you need the help of Flowey (and Papyrus to an extent) so even the "better" ending is thanks to the choices of others, not only ours.
it seems that in the light world your actions dont matter yet in the light world, they do dispite everything you do in the light world, your always ending with kris taking out their soul even when you speak to sans about seeing his brother, it wont happen (i hope it does soon) and then onion san who tells you about this song that they heard from the water and then mettaton who keeps telling you to come back the next day... and how you dont have a choice on where to go... snowgrave only ever inpacted 2 people, noelle and berdly and since the only way to have an effect is by doing something within the dark world, it makes it quite clear
Another piece of dialogue I've never heard people talk about(though it's on the wiki) is interacting witht he trashcans in the alley in chapter 2 where Bratty comments that: "Living with Azzy made you[Kris] weird." Implying that she knew Kris before they were "adopted" by the Dreemurrs.
i think the one ending thing is 'ohh you defeat the final boss and prevent the roaring' but the characters around you, depending on how you get to that ending react differently. if you killed characters it wont feel fulfilling. yeah you prevented the roaring but at what cost? killing innocent darkners (possibly lightners the case of Beardly) for what? different dialogue and to see characters upset? Or you recruite everyone and theyre all happy that you did the right thing. the 'ending' isnt different but the characters, situation, dialogue and maybe the odd gameplay element along the way will be.
The branching neutral choice routes are a really good way to keep secrets in games. Toby once said it was impossible to really keep secrets in his games. This is one way it is possible.
After beating the cyber world in one of my playthroughs, when interacting with the save point in the centre of castle town it showed some red dialogue, but I accidentally skipped thought it as I didn’t realise there was a difference before it was too late, and I haven’t managed to recreate it. So if someone could try and find it, it does on paper sound rather important due to it being red.
This isn’t a neutral route specific dialogue but I haven’t seen anyone mention anywhere so I thought it was kind of interesting. In Cyber City (i think it’s the path to the dog room) there’s a wall with lots of doors on it. if you click one of the doors it will say something along the lines of “congratulations you found the only knockable door!” i checked in town after this but i don’t think it affects the knocking dialogue at the building
There's a lot of obscure secrets in Undertale to this day that only few people know about and that have been discovered not so long ago, there's probably a lot of things we haven't figured out yet!, I can't even imagine how many other obscure secrets the full version of Deltarune is gonna have!, it's gonna take so many years to find every single one of them! (Great video by the way!)
Unrelated but where the [HYPERLINK BLOCKED] are the sprites on the thumbnail from. Like seriously are they fan art or what? I haven't finished chapter two yet so lemme know if they appear there somewhere, but seriously I have been wondering this for weeks
There is a line for Queen when she greats you after bringing her to Castel Town. That hapens on an aborted snowgrave run (by not killing Berdly and not recruting every enemy except the swatchling , task manager, mousewheel and werewerewier). Her dialog is pretey much her sayng to Kris that they have done there best for beeing a trucy. Sorry if this is comon knolege
about the like “final ending” thing in the final chapter I think there would have to be more than one because even as early as chapter 2 on the snowgrave route berdly is implied to be dead. he could be sleeping, but other things that happen in the dark worlds also carry over to the light world, like the eggs
In my opinion, one of the weirdest lines of dialogue that nobody talks about is when in Chapter 2/Snowgrave Route, Suzie tells the Queen that Noelle needs to wake up and they need to seal the fountain, the Queen replies: "No, she has already awakened too much." It heavily implies to me that Queen knows more about ether Noelle or the nature of the Deltarune universe, but is keeping it secret.
I will never forget my very first undertale play through. I went into it knowing that the game was famous for pacifist runs but i wanting to test toby's ability to account for technicality like a mass effect game that remembers your dialogue in the first chapter of a game. So i spared everyone because i felt they were being mislead until i met undyne. I still spared her but when she collapse in hot-land i didn't get her water. In my mind if she wanted to cook herself that's her choice and Im a harmless bystander. She became very sick of course and was bed ridden. Though i never harmed a single soul even avoided gaining EXP the only reward was escape from the underground a technical victory but one that frisk stand alone in. To this day I still feel that the cup of water is more then undyne deserves because of how she treated me however she is my favourite undertale character, because she proves that being harmless is not enough. Your not a good person until you choose to be. Most don't notice it, most don't even care but if you want to be pacifist you can just keep walking. Every time someone saves undyne they are choosing to do something unnecessary. To this day a wonder what pushed people to do this. IF THEY SAY FOR THE PACIFIST ENDING THEY ARE WRONG its for the BEST ENDING THEY ARE AFTER. Pacifist is NOT the best ending.
I've only seen the dialog avaible on the pacifist route since i no longer have the guts to do something that feels wrong just to see what happens, but i do prefer historys when my actions noticibly Affects what happens
Honestly when you brought up the gold door with the Bloxer, I thought it was the flavor text if you interact with the door that says "It seems to be locked. It may never open again" that you were talking about and thought "But I see this brought up quite a few times"
I despise the fact new players were robbed of experiencing undertale's neutral runs by the spoiley fandom, so i Hope the same doesn't happen with deltarune
I feel like they one ending and multiple mini endings or there will some endings they will rebert you to a previous save point (with all of your items and equipment from your last save point you used) or even creating or placing you in another save file
I definitely think deltarune is only gonna have one ending (and imo, it should stick to only one bottom line ending), but I think that ending is gonna be the only ending because it involves a relatively small section of the cast (similar to how undertale's neutral ending only requires sans to work, so its similar despite the context of that one ending can be drastically different). Deltarune could have an ending that involves Kris doing something alone, or just Kris and Susie, or something like that. Snowgrave gives this credit in my opinion; In chapter 2 of 7, you already have two characters, one of which likely extremely important to the story, greatly affected by the player's actions (even outside of the weird route).

I honestly just wanted to see what you would say.
I believe there will be one ending but many paths to that ending. Your choices may matter, but at the end of the day it doesn’t make much of a difference.
So, kinda like the mass effect trilogy i guess
The ending action might be the same, (we stop the roaring) but the state of the town and its inhabitants might be different.
@@Vincent_Rabbit I wonder then if players get disappointed because of this Mass Effect-ish style ending, lol.
@@kormannn1 i mean, at least in deltarune it's clear our choices doesn't matter (meanwhile since mass effect 1 it's said that our choices would impact the story, which in some cases was true except in the ending)
Plus mass effect 3 in particular is badly writen + war assets is a thing
I mean, you can literally kill characters. That has to make some difference.
Just because "theres only 1 ending" doesn't mean our actions can't effect what happens before and after that end.
People like to count all neutral endings in undertale as 1, but in reality theres like 70 different outcomes sans phones us about depending on our actions.
83 neutral endings if you count the extra variants. (No save, challenge, snowman piece, no consumable, bandage...)
XD

I was discussing the “one ending” with a friend the other day. These are my thoughts:
There will only be one end. All these big and tiny choices will add flavor to the journey. Whether you choose to be an upstanding person through and through, or a jerk, you’ll still get the job done one way or another.
HOWEVER
If you choose to go against all intentions of the story and game by going full Snowgrave…You won’t get an ending.
I buy it. It's foreshadowed in the Snowgrave hospital scene. It's completely dark, and you can move while Noelle talks to freak her out.
I know this comment is like, a whole year old, but lowkey reminds me of Mother 3's ending, but explicitly more "dark". It's nothing but darkness, and you can move around, but you can't even talk to anyone or interact with anything....
Your choices don't matter, noelle's do
Something like this I think Genocide route in Undertale did. No conclusion, just Chara taking your soul and leaving you in darkness. The only way to end it is waiting until they go "fine, wanna start over?"
@@LittleDevilAkuma Chara takes the soul after you wait ten minutes
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said here. I'm hoping that Deltarune is just one big "Neutral Route" where you see the payoff of all of your choices come full circle.
Hell, I want to see Toby make me REGRET fighting Berdly and paralyzing his arm, damn it!
I feel like that is the reason ch. 3-5 will be released together, as the consequences of saving/wounding/killing him probably can’t be fully explored in a single chapter.

I wish you had talked about Swatch's lines about what drinks to give to each one of your party members, especially Kris':" For the human..." Implying that Kris and "Boss" are different people.
that would make for an interesting idea that Kris and the Player being separate entities isnt as much a foreign concept at least to Darkners as pressumed if we assume that
Or at least to those assosiated with... stuff, like how both Seam and Swatch seem to know more than they let on due to their assosiation with the secret bosses in some way

(‘An Ending’ always makes me cry lol.)
And I definitely think Deltarune is pushing us onto one route or another, forcing us to either recruit or eliminate instead of leaving us in neutral grounds.
I felt like this in UT, the underground is so gigantic, yet we don't see even half of it, so much potential for World Building
@@D_YellowMadness Well it used to be hers, until well...

I did a neutral route a couple weeks ago with some really weird dialogue
Okay, so I've been working on making save files where I acted different ways throughout the run, so I can see how that affects things once chapters 3-5 come out.
This really needs to be looked into. Thank you!
Oooo
Holy shit, you might be on to something there. That's a terrifying thought.
Wait, what house with eyes??
@@BlaxeFrost-X Bratty's house

i just learned a really interesting obscure bit of dialog today... if you check asriel's dresser in chapter 1 you get different dialog of whats inside depending on the file youre using. file 1 has a torn cross-country shirt, file 2 has a school ID with a bad haircut, and file 3 has expired pizza coupons. its the only example we have currently of there being difference between save files
Different timelines but with the same result of being irrelevant,
I wonder which save file is linked to which soul
Oh i wonder if there's other extremely subtle differences between the files that would hint towards them being different timelines
@@Epsicronics as far as im aware there isnt yet, but i think this is probably a hint that there will be in the future. my theory is that were going to have to reach an end in all 3 save files in order to unlock the true ending: a run where we get all recruits (berdly wakes up fine), a run where we attack enemies (berdly hurts his arm), and a run where we do a weird route (berdly dies). something else that i think is significant to this theory is the fact that the faces of the 3 titans in ralsei's story look kind of like save points, im positive thats not a coincidence
this is fascinating and i've never heard of it before. so hype for something like this to return in a later chapter and have everyone flip their shit
@Spamton G Spamton™ im going to be gloating about it for weeks lol
Before I watch I want to guess that in this video is going to have the interaction where Noelle pets a Tasque and says something like "It's a lot like petting Catti"
To get this you have to start up a snowgrave route and then abort it on a Tasque because otherwise Noelle is never in your party when you meet one of those darkners in particular
But it is VERY IMPORTANT LORE because it means NOELLE PETS CATTI SOMETIMES. That is HUGE NEWS.
Edit: This was not in the video but I will repurpose it as my obscure Neutral Route dialogue. Bring Noelle to a Tasque and have her use an ACT on it to see
Second Edit:
Oh, I have another one.
For this reason, it is incredibly obscure and I have never seen anyone mention it; specifically the part about how you can spare her after this
If you think you've done everything there is, trying to spare her in this manner can actually be quite an interesting and fun fight! Enjoy your time fighting a psuedo-boss you've probably never even considered
wait does this actually happen or-
@@zixvirzjghamn737 To clarify, it's just Noelle's dialogue when using X-Petting Tasque with Kris.

@@evervirescent I did try that, and iirc she doesn't show up at her usual place. Unless I missed something, she seems to be recruited, but doesn't appear
It's been a while since I checked, so I may be totally misremembering or I might just be stupid and have missed her new location.

Bear with me..
Berdly dies in the roaring becouse of his arm being broken in a fight?

I think you could be right
That seems to be the only constant
We have no choice in sealing the fountains... It happens at the end of every chapter no matter what
There seems to be no special requirements to sealing them, just that we get to them, no matter what way we got to them.
But we do have the choice to give up when we die, which makes me think that if it's going to have only one ending, it might not be very happy for us
@@WhoStoleKirya73 it could also be a deception. I mean we've already seen how our decisions change the game somewhat. It's hard to say what exactly "one ending" will mean.
@@Knux5577 and that's exactly why I put an "if" in my comment.
@@pablopereyra7126 That's kinda... how undertale ended, though. I doubt Toby would do the same ending twice.
@@BrixVGM Plus a .txt file would be super anticlimactic.
@@D_YellowMadness and also suck for console players
@@jbdbibbaerman8071 And just sounds... not satisfactory at all imo unless its after a fairly climatic event and AT LEAST some opportunity to directly resolve things with Kris
1:23 The game just expending to the left revealing Susie and Ralsei spying on you is just so funny to me XD
7:44
On deltarune chapter 1 if you do a neutral route, when you get to the king castle and get to the [uh that first enemy] room, he says you can't compensate for attacking him, but the game let's you apologize, and if you do it tells you that the agresion to a single [enemy] was pardoned
8:50 Nice to see someone finally added a bathroom to the cafe
a really obscure line of dialogue is if you open jevils door and go back to Sean before fighting him.
i dont know if you had to have talked about jevil to him or not, though
Nice catch! I actually found that in editing but decided not to add it, since I plan to reference it in an upcoming video.
@@HalfBreadChaos oh cool
ive never seen it mentioned before, even in those 'deltarune secrets!' videos
I swear to god I've played through this game over a dozen times and I find something new every time
Of course, it's a Toby Fox game, I've replayed Undertale 32 times and found new things each time
8:50, ah yes, my favorite character, Bathroom.
The way I see fate can be summed up in one phrase: all rivers lead to the same ocean. I hope Deltarune follows the same philosophy, where there's countless branching paths, making the experience unique for each player, but ending in a single way with variations.
Every Copy of Deltarune is Personalized
I think this might be known already, but I got a special dialogue from Seam in my Pacifist Route:
Basically did what everyone does and recruit everyone, but I didn't fought Spamtom NEO. I was eager to see the story of Queen and Noelle unravel so much that I forgot the LoadedDisk on Kris's Pocket.
Long story short, if you talk to Seam in Castle Town without collecting Ch2's ShadowCrystal, he'll laugh as always, but if you try to talk to him a second time, he warns you saying
"• It's getting quite late, isn't it? Better say your goodbyes and head home...
• ...you don't want anyone to see you when the sun goes down"
I haven't seen any other playthroughs of people missing Spamtom's fight and talking to Seam, so might as well put it here
I'm not sure how weird it is but I know one branching line of dialogue with Noelle about nutcrackers you can get in the mouse room 2, you have to get her spooked so she's not following you and talk to her, I say it's weird since you CANNOT finish the pluzze even if you scare her and also bcuz it's a whole branching option dialogue.
@@cuozannt Is it stored????? That's super weird indeed.
People seem to not realize that deltarune’s philosophy isn’t « your choices don’t matter » but rather « your choices don’t matter in the end »
@@user-lh7mt7zo7l so either everyone dies in every ending, the time line gets resetted, or we stop the roaring, or Kris dies or we get separeted from them, or seal all the dark fountains
This could be the ends of the game
@@cuozannt
Sadly no, it was their first playthrough so they didn't know it was different and when they went back it was the normal text again.
I absolutely love your channel and I'm hooked on it! Thanks for uploading so consistently!
I had the same thought about the "your choices don't matter" line, that it's similar to "kill or be killed" from Undertale. :0
Hmmmmmm I really thought he's going to talk about Seam's line where he says that you "should hurry home once your business here is finished" because you "don't want to get caught when the sun goes down".
(These may be not the exact quotes)
when does Seam say this?
@@zixvirzjghamn737
I think he says it if you talk to him a couple of times when you return to the castle town after defeating Queen. Also it has to be on the file where you haven't beaten neither Spamton nor Jevil .
I hope that Deltarune will have two endings. The normal one (a big neutral ending) and the weird route.
Because of the game often tries to tell you "your choices doesn't matter"
So you are always fighting the same bosses or minibosses like the King or Queen.
I got the ralsei dummy hug diaologue like on my first playthrough? who wouldnt want to hug the fluffyboi.
1:53 what the heck! Jevil?
“Good Kris a healing spell works too”
Or something like that
I definitely seem to recall this piece of dialogue, but I've never seen the spinning animals! That makes much more sense.
I like the chapter at 4:34 being "it ATE the CAR". very good
Nobody ever talks about how Kris came to be the only human living in a monster town.
this is a small thing and you probably already know this, but during the second berdly fight noelle will say “he hit me in the face with a tornado” once you beat him. however if you made sure that noelle didn’t get hit, she won’t say it. she also says it when she’s hit by something else, not a tornado.
OMG, HalfBread posted a video. Am I dreaming? And Its amazing, as always!
3 days late, mad at my youtube algorithm for not putting you in the first slot
but i gotta say, these videos give me that dopamine rush and i'm always so excited to watch these, so keep doing whatcha do, man
9:12 - OMG SALT ROUTE REAL?!?!??!1?\?2?!
video so fresh that youtube doesn't acknowledge the thumbnail yet. at this point i'm just gonna turn on vid notifs, every single video is a banger
And is even more ironic since for you to have a True Pacifist you need the help of Flowey (and Papyrus to an extent) so even the "better" ending is thanks to the choices of others, not only ours.
ok i have no idea what i did but on my very first run that bloxer's pants were higher then the door.
I love your videos. I always hear them while get my daughter to sleep. An then I watch it again 😂
it seems that in the light world your actions dont matter yet in the light world, they do
dispite everything you do in the light world, your always ending with kris taking out their soul
even when you speak to sans about seeing his brother, it wont happen (i hope it does soon) and then onion san who tells you about this song that they heard from the water and then mettaton who keeps telling you to come back the next day... and how you dont have a choice on where to go... snowgrave only ever inpacted 2 people, noelle and berdly and since the only way to have an effect is by doing something within the dark world, it makes it quite clear
I love that set up video after the credits keep up the good work!
The branching neutral choice routes are a really good way to keep secrets in games. Toby once said it was impossible to really keep secrets in his games. This is one way it is possible.
4:06 it sounds like a pitched-down Leafeon cry.
That red dialogue is just a warning that you can't go back to the Cyber World once saving your game after sealing the fountain.
9:23 My personal favourite visitor of the cafe
This isn’t a neutral route specific dialogue but I haven’t seen anyone mention anywhere so I thought it was kind of interesting. In Cyber City (i think it’s the path to the dog room) there’s a wall with lots of doors on it. if you click one of the doors it will say something along the lines of “congratulations you found the only knockable door!” i checked in town after this but i don’t think it affects the knocking dialogue at the building

I remember obsessing over the TopChef going "like night and day, the cake and the world revolve!" I thought that was the weirdest thing.
I'd like to believe the Bloxer made the howling noise, as Him and the animals are on their own. And they have to stick together to not be alone
Always great seeing another video of you!
It is all very, very interesting

I think of it this way. In life, our choices matter, even when we don't see the results of those choices in the end.
I actually found the dialogue at 1:01 (both Ralsei and Susie) and I didn't realize it was so obscure

I dunno but I went back and forth in our light world home and toriel asked if she had to get a revolving door lol

I think there would have to be more than one because even as early as chapter 2 on the snowgrave route berdly is implied to be dead. he could be sleeping, but other things that happen in the dark worlds also carry over to the light world, like the eggs

The tts sounds so much clearer now. That's cool
