See I'm a supermarket custodian. I always found the most interesting thing about our job was the fact that each building you care for is a completely new set of skills. I work with some retired school custodians who tell me how different this job is. Yet we all share the same common bond. We're all here for the customer. Any kind of customer.
Hey Mr. Jeff, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been watching your videos quite frequently lately and they have really helped to give me a little bit of an idea of what to expect. I just recently got hired as a full time 3rd shift custodian at my old high school (I’m currently 19 so it will pretty much be my first full time job), and I really appreciate you making these videos! My first day of training is April 16th and I feel that it will be a really good fit for me. Thank you for helping me out! 😁
You should try a circular attachment like BE 16", or somethingsimilar. Way easier on your back and cuts the time in half. It is what we use for cleaning restaurant kitchen floors deep cleaning and outdoor areas as well. Use the yellow tip for corners etc hard to reach areas.
I love these videos, Mr. Jeff. I've never been a custodian before. Very helpful content, and positive! I love the independence of cleaning a school on my own. Janitors have somewhat of a stereotype in this society. I just love it, though! No one breathing down your neck(most of the time). Got to keep a rapport with teachers and staff, however. It helps, knowing the people in your building. Work is purposeless without knowing your community. Lots of places contract to independent cleaning companies. It's a very high turnover rate in the custodial industry. They don't train you on motivation. People have to find that for themselves.
Yes the motivation part come from with in. I so have a hard time with not being able to be in charge and have some funds. To get moral up. I catch myself getting burn out at times and lack of motivation. I do like the fact I don’t have anyone breathing down my neck. Kinda my own boss. Just do what I’m supposed to do keep my nose out of drama. Then all is good.
Hi From UK. Been Site manager{custodian }for 28 years in different levels of education from nursery, primary, college, and special educational needs, How do you get on with the teachers ? Find that's the hard part of the job, wanting everything done yesterday great vid just catch up with them all . I have it easy as I don't have any real cleaning to do,all maintenance and looking after the cleaning staff.👍👍
I get along with my teachers very well. I don’t let there demands bother me. There not the ones that I answer to. I will do what I can for them. I just don’t let them intimidate me. I use a little reverse psychology. I intimidate them just enough to keep them at bay.
Mr Jeff... mr Farley said he saw you the other day. We start our spring break next week. I'm already starting to get my list together for what to do during the summer. Pressure washing is on top of my list. We got a new play pretty in the other day to help with our restroom floors. I do a bathroom a morning before the others get here.... so yea ..... my back hurts also.....lol... just me and 1 other lady helping... no night shift here either...... my back hurts...lol
Hey Jeff I’ve been working off and on in the custodial field for a few years now and just wanted to ask if you would consider making a video on proper mop care/mop cleaning. I remember when I first started I just hung my mops up wet in the closet never washed em or nothing. Over the past year I did start washing them because I saw it said washable on the tag. But we’ve been having to get new mop heads every other month or so, is this normal wear and tear? We use the Maximizer antibacterial made by RCP. I have no way of expressing how grateful I am for these videos you are making. Stay safe y’all!
Rick the kindergarten school I worked at for 11years. Has a washing machine just for mops. I tried to get the school I work at now to do the same. They blew me off. So I do the old wash and hang. Plus I do the old wash and hang. Plus getting new ones. The washing machine was awesome. Mops would last for 2 years.
Ah ok. I work for a small vet clinic so I doubt they will splurge for a mop wash considering my mop sink is an old shower. I’m guessing my custodial closet used to be a bathroom but there is no toilet so idk. That probably should have been a sign... but it is what it is and I work with what I got. Sink wash it is thanks again.
If you dont have one you should use that school card to get a surface cleaner attachment. Cleaning the concrete is much easier and you wont get the "zebra stripes" with it
Hello mr. Jeff I love your channel as always I have a question what type of floor wax a floor finish do you all use and those commercial buffers can those be used in a residential setting also I want to know have you ever heard of this machine called a kaivac it's like a pressure washer in a vacuum all in one
What shoes are you wearing on the job? Are they comfortable? Do they do well on wet floors? I'm bit of a bigger guy as well and desperately looking for something comfortable for the entire day but also safe for custodial work.
I have been think about doing a video on that subject. I started wearing shoes from orthofeet.com Best shoes I have ever found. I am flat footed and have bunions. Check them out.
Thanks for your hard work Mr.Jeff and Jesus loves you all

Hey your welcome. That’s why I do this channel. I wish I would have started at 19. Good luck to you on your training and your future.
@@mrjeffthecustodian Thank you very much, I really appreciate it!

Just make sure a pressure washing company is not coming lol.
Tell Farley he should have got my autograph! Lol
How do you have no night crew! Especially a building your size. At our school we have a first and second shift second does most of the cleaning
We work our tails off.
