I have a theory about this grandparents treating their grandchildren different from their children, i might be wrong o. But for a parent and child relationship you are their primary care giver so you feel more responsible for building the character of the child unlike the grandchildren who you are not their primary care giver. Then experience is another one, you have done it once and have learnt from the way you handled your children so you are acting from a place of experience with your grandkids
Not coming into your adult child's life to dominate when you haven't built a relationship when they were younger is so invaluable. Even for absentee dads
