As a platinum member with Qatar they are hands down the worlds best airlines. Recently flew Australia to Spain and there was 40 people on board a 777. What they have done with the Covid restrictions and getting people home as catapulted then way above anyone else. Nice video Dan - massive fan
Those women ordered from their flights at Doha recently and subjected to an invasive procedure, will likely disagree. Not that this is the first or only negative issue with Qatar. Regarding getting people home, I tried to help a lady from Norway recently, stranded here in Cambodia. It took a lot of effort to finally get Qatar to move and change her ticket to leave from PNH via ICN. I wasn't impressed at all. As Danv had explained here, that "we'll get you home" slogan was mostly a marketing ploy; altruism had nothing to do with it (ironically, they introduced it only days before cutting flights to some cities, PNH being one).
Brilliant video! Spot on with the analysis as usual Dan. I flew Emirates from Dubai to Johannesburg 3 weeks ago & I think there were around 50 passengers in the whole B777, made zero operational sense to me.
Thank you for the insight. It is interesting to watch the competition. Only time will tell who will come out on top, who can outlast the other. I appreciate your analysis of their respective fleets and and trade and how that will have an impact.
09:00 “At some point it’s cheaper to operate an empty plane with cargo in the belly than staff an entire plane for 30 pax”. Correction; if a passenger plane gets used for cargo only, it still needs staff. As long as there are seats installed, cabin crew needs to fly as well, even if there are zero passengers on board. So let’s say an A380 with 8 pairs of passenger doors (meaning 16 passenger doors) will still need 16 cabin crew at least to be allowed to fly. And If I’m not mistaken; 1 crew member per 50 installed seats. But that’s easa so maybe not for UAE
