5:06 I actually use an Iron Cobra for my cocktail kit. You have to do the same conversion where you flip the cam the other way. It works great since you can adjust the angle of the cam to get it just right.
Pretty specific situation, but as a working drummer, that's not impossible. Straws are, after all, in almost every possible venue, and losing your snare - whether that's your fault or during transport somewhere with no drumshop nearby and no friend to bring you one - is definitely possible. I've heard of people losing their floor tom legs who had to use sticks... and people who lost their sticks (happened to me once believe it or not). Bottom line : *everything* is possible on the road. Believe me lol
@316bandofficial idk, I feel like even that can be worked around by hitting it with a stick, subbing with a floor tom, etc. You can't get all the parts of hihat sounds without the clutch
I found this guy a few months ago looking up beginner drum tips preparing for the school talent show (drumming to Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd) and am now a huge fan with his unique drum content Thanks for the amazing uploads, David!
One of the videos my band filmed last year, we made it halfway across the state, upon setting up the kit for filming we realized the snare stand was missing. I managed to find the perfect stump in a driftwood pile. We used that as a stand for the full video, and you can't even tell. That clip of the tom snare made me think of that haha.
5:39 OMG PLEASE DO A WEIRD DRUMSTICKS VIDEO🙏🙏🙏 (If you do,) please feature springy drumsticks! What are springy drumsticks? I’m glad you asked! 1. Get a drumstick 2. Remove a section of the drumstick 3. Replace the section that was removed with a spring (in my experience springs from Nerf guns work best) 4. Glue the spring in place 5. Now you have a remarkably useless (but highly entertaining) springy drumstick! (This is just as ridiculous as it sounds, it’s meant to be nonsensical and fun) Love your vids!
Snare drum emad was so good, I’d love if evans actually made that a thing. Also, that Alice n chains thing was gold, wish it had audio. Ps, that clutch would make Glen kotche proud. You and Arthurdubois sound collab when?
If I had forgotten my snare drum, I would probably be able to find another snare drum somewhere in the area before I found bunch of coffee stirrers and a ching(?) ring. And would probably take less time than playing MacGyver 😅
i was looking for a practice bass drum for the longest time when i used a drum throne as a practice pad half the time and never thought to set it up for my bass pedals lmao
3 days ago I did/made thr emad snare head hack. And today this video pops up. Lol. That DIY emad snare head is a keeper and a game changer, I've made 2 now the 2nd one I made the hole a bit bigger and I like the wider head version it let's the foam pad work a bit better and you get a better sound over all. But yeah, this hack should be in every drummers arsenal
Dude, if you're in any venue that serves drinks, I can almost guarantee they at least have a couple of cocktail strainers with springs you can steal off of them. I reckon you could tape those down to a tom and get some sort of snare-ish sound.
Similar to what you did with the throne, I use Remo practice pad for my bass drum on my practice pad kit. The only thing is that it's ever been good for lol.
4:57 Dude, you could totally just put the beater assembly on at a different angle to get this to work! You have all 6 sides of the hexagonal axle to work with.
The Lego base plate guiro works better if it's securely glued to the top of a Jam Block, preferably with something that actually welds the plastics together. And you can still use the jam block as intended, although it won't ring quite as well. I saw knockoff Lego base plates at the local Dollar Tree. You don't have to sacrifice real ones.
Another tuning/muffling trick: only tune up half of your lugs. For example if you have a 22" kick with 10 lugs, only tone 5 of them but still in the star patern. You might need to tune them up twice as high and I would not recomend using this on drums with less than 8 lugs. This also works on snare drums too.
If the emad snare thing had a touch more “crack” to it, it’d be perfect. As it is, it sounds a little like whacking a wheelie bin with a large wet salmon 😂
Man is that blue sparkle wrap kit a mij Maxwin? With the floor tom converted to a bass drum? Look like maxwin lugs. (My first set was a maxwin, green flash wrap lol good times)
I bet if you took the Lego base, put it over the cowbell and hit it with a heat gun you would maintain the texture but get a better fit. OR....... you could drill holes and put in some rivets to get the same texture to rub your stick across.
My gosh... I hope, I don´t get one of these forgot-my-pedals-and-my-stickbag-dreams tonite... By the way, I did the Lego-thing with my very first toy-drumkit in 1973! ( And my name is NOT Carmine...) 🤣 another cool episode! Thanx bro!
Love these drum hacks! Im so happy about you uploading a new one!. Just wondering, how does remo silent strokes on a full set compare to the Donner practice kit? Which do you like better
what are some of your favorite hacks? 🤔
CLOTH ON THE SNARE AAAAAAAAARRH
old bicycle handle bar grips as a bass drum protector
Tape any kind of tape
Tuning and practice. :D
The E-mad snare at 8:53 sounded insane; sounded just like the old snare sounds DEVO would use
The snare drum emad was a keeper.
Seemed a lot of work and inflexible for the same sound as putting an old head on top
The damping and tone on it reminded me distinctly of the kind of drums Devo would have ❤️
Evans is sitting on a gold mine with that idea, but according to the SLAD source, they have no interest in making it.
It’s the beef
@@matthewzagorski9161 .. some kind of a clip-on contraption would be sweet.
I'm the OP of the "holy china mounted the wrong way" image, glad to see it making the rounds time and time again!
legend

The homemade snare EMAD sounds sooooo sick. Most of the rest were lololololol.
Arthur is nuts, I eat up his clips. Don't step on that cowbell 🤣
So you forget your snare, but you remember a tambourine and a towel and a bunch of straws?
Love your videos! Keep it up!
Pretty specific situation, but as a working drummer, that's not impossible. If you forgot your snare drum on a gig, that's sad.
real
Okay but the actual worst thing to forget for a gig is the hihat clutch
Wrap some tape around the rod.
@316bandofficial idk, I feel like even that can be worked around by hitting it with a stick, subbing with a floor tom, etc. You can't get all the parts of hihat sounds without the clutch
Thanks for including one of my clips in your video! You're a legend!
I found this guy a few months ago looking up beginner drum tips preparing for the school talent show (drumming to Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd) and am now a huge fan with his unique drum content
Thanks for the amazing uploads, David!
dude these videos are awesome, i instantly click whenever i see a new drum hack or gadget video of yours.. thank you david.
always a good day when David uploades
emad snare drum goes so hard. everybody in a dance punk band in 2006 would've gone nuts for that.
4:59 It's working , you need to turn the beater so that it is lower
the chain wasnt long enough and the end of the footboard got bound up in the screws under the cam.
The first sound you got off the emad was DOPE. Sounded like an acoustic 80s drum machine sound!
I have a Star Instruments SYNARE that sounds exactly like that!
Absolute favorite drum channel! Thanks for great content!
09:08 sounds like (and by that I mean I associate with) the intro to Woodkid's "Goliath".
One of the videos my band filmed last year, we made it halfway across the state, upon setting up the kit for filming we realized the snare stand was missing. 8:52 bro made an 80s drum sampler!! sounds so good
My drum teacher is always about to crucify me whenever i start drumming on the seat
The snare modification at 8:50 sounds fantastic
5:39 OMG PLEASE DO A WEIRD DRUMSTICKS VIDEO🙏🙏🙏
(If you do,) please feature springy drumsticks!

I used the throne practice “kit” and it worked surprisingly well! I did also added a practice pad as a snare. Hope this is useful!
01:43 “that sounds nothing like a snare!”
Oh David. CLEARLY you haven’t heard MY snare tuning
the first sounds like a drum hack that is actually legit... thanks for the upload man
10:10 Did I mention I love LEGO and also built a Music Machine out of it?
th-cam.com/video/P3cg64khFRo/w-d-xo.html
I tried using the throne as a kick practice pad like 5 years ago and it got completely destroyed instantly. lmao
I can’t tell you how many times my drummer forgot his snare, and I just happened to have a box of straws and tape in my guitar bag.
Perfect fix! Lol
ARTHUR DUBOIS! 💚🥁💚🥁
You’re everywhere 💀
Bass drum practice rig is a winner...im gonna try that immediately
8:53 just as this part starts,I saw a cowboy drummer notification on my phone 😂😎
@5:00 All you really need to make it work is a beater with the shaft bent backwards a bit.
The Best Drum Hack is Regular Practice.
9:08 would be the perfect snom.
3:38 you just invented a practice kit, amazing
The cowboy drummer is the mannnn
10:24 "super currAtive"
11:12 sounded like yonkers lol
6:49 i thought i was the only one who knew that song lmao Carvings is SICK even jim root likes them
Right on! 💯
The EMAD hack sounds amazing!!!!
If I had forgotten my snare drum, I would probably be able to find another snare drum somewhere in the area before I found bunch of coffee stirrers and a ching(?) ring. And would probably take less time than playing MacGyver 😅
I saw the EMAD Snare on Sounds Like a Drum and decided to try it and I loved it too
I fucking love Sounds Like A Drum
Always good when there is a new rdavidr upload
the snare drum emad sounds AMAZING
try to use the pad from a record player as a drum muffle
We need a weird drumsticks video!!
dave using lego terminology is funny to me for some reason
5:30 That is Sugarfoot. Michael Jackson's drummer.
that snare drum with the ring sound is a vibe.
That emad snare sounded great!
Snare drum emad sounded good, and the legos in the drum sounded really good, too, will have to try that one.
8:52 is basically a BFSD. but with a foam ring instead of a paper-ish ring.
i was looking for a practice bass drum for the longest time when i used a drum throne as a practice pad half the time and never thought to set it up for my bass pedals lmao
i actually like the tone of the lego cowbell WITHOUT distortions added to the recording
That cluster stax hi hat would be great for hip hop drumming
The jingle bell hi hat sounded really cool
3 days ago I did/made thr emad snare head hack. And today this video pops up. Lol. David I love your vids I learned to drum through your channel
The drumming world is the most exiting.
Dude, if you're in any venue that serves drinks, I can almost guarantee they at least have a couple of cocktail strainers with springs you can steal off of them. I reckon you could tape those down to a tom and get some sort of snare-ish sound.
SUGARFOOT! 💚🥁💚🥁
I love the Pearl Tom Mount. To me one of the best in the business
5:42 "Grooving on them tables"
Those are _stools._ Nice to know next time you visit a restaurant that has them.
The EMAD and LEGO cowbell are keepers...
Me encantó el vídeo, muchas gracias por los tips!! Sos un genio, seguí subiendo videos que son geniales.. 💕

Snare Emad sounded "super beefy" great sound!
ONE TIP FOR THE TOM > SNARE HACK: If you got the snare wires, just put it on the side head of your tom.
Have you ever tried putting or fitting a spring under the foot board like the speed cobra. That would be a sick diy!
I can't play kit anymore bc of an injury, but I do still work with midi and samples, and I'd LOVE to get some samples from these tests
5:56 that was glorious
Is it possible for you to do a review of the Evans dB One reduced volume drumheads and cymbals?
If the emad snare thing had a touch more “crack” to it, it’d be perfect. As it is, it sounds a little like whacking a wheelie bin with a large wet salmon 😂
As a drummer and broke, when you mount that China in the wrong hole, i'm not just sad, but also triggered.
Imma steal that emad snare hack, it sounds good, I could use it in a side snare
I loved the snare drum muffler hack!
One foot blasts🤘🏻
how did you mount the kickpedal to the throne hack? the beater would be sliding, no?
Man is that blue sparkle wrap kit a mij Maxwin? With the floor tom converted to a bass drum?
Look like maxwin lugs. (My first set was a maxwin, green flash wrap lol good times)
I wanna hear that Lego cowbell with brushes 😮
Can you make a video of that Tama bell brass replica that's been in the background of the last few videos.
Can you post a link to that Arthdubois video. Can't find on youtube. Appreciate showing that snippet. Never had heard of before
8:52 sounds like a Star Instruments SYNARE
*illegal building technique* definite lego guy 😂
I feel like this video needs another comment praising the emad snare cuz that was way cool
Try a bundle of house keys.. or a chaine nechlace?
I bet if you took the Lego base, put it over the cowbell and hit it with a heat gun you would maintain the texture but get a better fit. OR....... you could drill holes and put in some rivets to get the same texture to rub your stick across.
My gosh... I hope, I don´t get one of these forgot-my-pedals-and-my-stickbag-dreams tonite...
By the way, I did the Lego-thing with my very first toy-drumkit in 1973! ( And my name is NOT Carmine...)
🤣 another cool episode! Thanx bro!
I'm still trying the snare kazoo. idk, the has to be a wood one?
As a teenager I taped wires inside tom bottom head made great snare drum.
David was sounding like Lemony Snicket with that fat snare drum description
Will the snare sound like a normal snare with the emad ring out?
Love these drum hacks! Im so happy about you uploading a new one!. Just wondering, how does remo silent strokes on a full set compare to the Donner practice kit? Which do you like better
I do have a spare throne and I need a bd practice rig!! Hell yeah :D Edit : the springy clutch is genius!!!
Bro that is my drum teacher at 40 seconds
