I already have the bell hats, but mine are Indian thumb bells... I hang them under a crash, I might try them on my HH stand after seeing your show, likely not though, unless for a special sound effect, I wouldn't do a gig with a set as my main driver... you'd spend half the gig staring at those little hats trying to hit them.
There are higher grades of stainless that become magnetic again. If you want higher heat resistance for high temperature working environments, some alloys used in those are as magnetic as regular steel.
Every single one of these, I'm sitting there the same way I did when vice city came out, saying "this is as far as graphics can go" I dont know how you keep finding more weird cymbals, but im sure we'll revisit again! 😂
I didn't like that stainless cymbal much at first, but once it was on the right side, it had a nice techno crash sound 🤔 Hook up with Tim over at Reverie Drums for your cymbal project. I'd like to find some good blanks and get into some real cymbal smithing, rather than just modifying already formed cymbals. And the Daru cymbal sounds great as a hihat.
Great sense of humor. Made me laugh quite a few times. 1. Nebula cymbal is amazing. 2. Wuhan Blank sounded astounding, beautiful sound. 3. Stainless steel cymbal didn't sound good isolated, but with within a group; its a friend you'd like by your side. Good job and thank you for all, excellent taste, RDR. Ciao.
As some have pointed out, Lance Campeau makes or used to make stainless steel cymbals. As an aside, the Sabian Quiet Tone, Evans dB One and Trick Drums low-volume cymbals are all made from stainless steel. Wuhan's Ora low-volume cymbals are B20. And, the Zildjian L80s are "proprietary" alloy.
This is the first video I've seen from you, and I subscribed! Awesome presentation of each cymbal, giving background and insights into them. Great idea with adding one cymbal to the kit at a time. And, they were cool cymbals! I particularly loved the trashy sound of the 27" and that 16" Wuhan worked out to be a nice ride
Wow, that huge trash can lid sounded better than I thought it would! WOAH! The fact that the ride even comes with a track pressed into it, is simply amazing 🤣
I strongly recommend Lance Campeau's "The Cymbal Project" series for info on creating your own cymbals. He details his homemade lathe, lathing techniques, different types of anvils, stumps and hammers, hammering patterns, finishing techniques (though he never details the ones that involve dangerous chemicals) and even fx cymbal making. He has a few videos where he works from blanks. I own an fx splash he made, back from when he used to sell cymbals on reverb.
Nobody has done a single comparison video for TRAKIAN CYMBALS and they’re so beautiful!!! From what I can tell, they sound great, but I’d love to hear them compared to other well known brands out there. Love your videos and Thanks!
'sup Dave! GREAT content as always. 0:38 I have to point out though, that the Paiste Signature Traditional cymbal you put as an example of a B8 bronze cymbal is actually made from their Signature alloy, which I believe is 15% tin not 8%. Same for the 2002 cymbal you put there right after as an example of B12 bronze; 2002 cymbals are famously made from a B8 alloy, so that would be incorrect.
Yo David, gotta add a titanium cymbal to the collection now Can't wait to see the cymbal project, should be fun to follow. Maybe a "round 2" after you make the first one, see how much better you could make a second one with everything you learn? One step at a time and all... but I'm jus sayin lol. Surprised by the stainless cymbal, sounds good; pretty intense sound! LOVE the 27"... thing... I could never own it, I would overuse the ever loving shit out of it. The 12" Paiste thing is cool. Extraordinarily niche, but cool; I think you found the real use in a hi hat combo, that makes for a pretty unique sounding hat. Shout out remote hi hats.
That 27" was awesome, I loved the sound! I agree the 12" sucks at it's intended use and sounds nothing like it's described. It sounds much better as a hi hat. 👍👍
Hey David, I gotta question, I have this 20 inch cymbal, and I converted it into a 16 crash, it was messed up when I got it, and I was wondering if you could try to make it sound a little better, I’ve seen the video where you redone a set of hi hats, and was wondering if you could try that on this 16 crash
If you're looking for some info on hammering/lathing that cymbal blank, I just put out this video on exactly that: th-cam.com/video/qpWZet1dSrQ/w-d-xo.html
How many drum keys does rdavidr have on hand at any time? At some point do you just start throwing them away? Secretly dropping them around town for others to find?
David, I love you more than any other drum youtuber, but you messed up the pictures of cymbals with alloys completely...😅😁 2002 is B8 and Signature is closer to B20 but its own thing. Sorry if that was on purpose😁
I like that you are showing cymbal variations, I wonder might you also get away from the "pop" sounding drums. Try some tunings that make engineers wince... make them work for their money.
@@BananaManPL cheers for the conversation, I have my kit tuned into whatever strange chord I can pitch... playing with a set of remo roto toms I have a lot of fun twisting that tuning to match the kits toms in little two note harmonies, they can work strangely, I've tuned the middle roto tom to the same pitch as my snare so when I hit them together they cancel, but when you flam it has a strange overtone I can't explain with text nor mouth sounds lol. It's just fun getting away from sounding like the, while awesome, run of the mill recording sounds.

I'm not a huge fan of most "trashy" cymbals outside of a good china, o-zone, or occasionally a dark dry ride...but that stainless cymbal surprised me. It's not something I could see myself using often, but I'd have one of those.
Which one of these are you putting on your kit? 🤔
Dont forget to check out geekstands.com/discount/rdavidr
Nothing lmao
prob the blob 😂
Hopefully none
Maybe the first one

Wonder if there'll ever be a Drum Thing / Dankpods collab
That would be Incredible
Yaessss
I WOULD LOVE THAT SO MUCH!
fuck yes! I want to see them assemble the weirdest drumset that still sounds largely cromulent.
When you realize they're the same person 💀
The use of the ride at 14:00 as a hat actually sounds great, lol. Color me shocked.

16:41 we shall never forget the bootleg cymbal lathe

Doom Metal mentioned (played)! 😮

That Wuhan blank sounded surprisingly good!
I had the same griffin stand for my old kit. Sane counter weight and everything. It was good for replacing hardware.
The GMD Nebula blob and the Pstx45whatever as hats, were perfect sounds to me. Interesting, interesting indeedy.
Wow, that huge trash can lid sounded better than I thought it would!
WOAH! The fact that the ride even comes with a track pressed into it, is simply amazing 🤣
Hes Back and I love it!

Honestly that DJ ride gives the hats a nice chunk that I kind of like
13:14 the ride cymbal by it self sounds to me like Ooops all bell lol
The blank thing is pretty cool actually... you could use some scrubbing polish to clean the crud off just to start - very DIY
Stand Geeks makes pretty good hardware. My only gripe is that one of mine broke. Like the neck just snapped. The counterweight is an AWESOME addition.
'sup Dave!

12:30 next time I go wine tasting I'm gonna recite this from memory and see what reactions I get.
I love the sound of that huge thrashy ride cymbal
12 inch ride sounds like my first Sabian Pro Hi-hat bottom back in 1990
Yo David, gotta add a titanium cymbal to the collection now

That blank actually made a halfway decent ride sound. Was not expecting that! Nor was I expecting that other one to play like a record 😂
Id put a rivet in the blank and have it as a dry light crash ride for jazzy fusion stuff
That stainless sounds great, it's the first usable stainless I've ever seen, although too dry for my taste
Lance Campeau made (maybe still makes) stainless steel cymbals. I love how they sound.
he made really nice sounding cymbals. surprising to me that they were made of steel. I loved watching his videos
That 27" was awesome, I loved the sound! I agree the 12" sucks at it's intended use and sounds nothing like it's described. It sounds much better as a hi hat. 👍👍
I really think that last raw cymbol has a lot of potential
The DJ's as hi-hats were kind of amazing.
That stainless joint in the beginning sounds like you're playing 2 cymbals at once. Maybe use that as selling point lol
Excellent work on this video, it is well put together. I enjoyed watching your video. Thank you for sharing. Like 👍
These 4 inch hats be sounding like hungry hippos
The ride hi-hat was the most acceptable.
Those "hats" are just nuts. Ridiculous. Absurd. That blank, however, sounds ready for some good usage!
David’s back back again
You should make a giant snare. Like maybe take a 16in floor tom kr something
Would love to see every brand thinnest cymbals
Definitely trying to grab the first 2. 👌🏿
That nebula is actually friggin sicc
I loved that big mf you had in the ride position and the blank.
Excellent video as always.

9:55 bro was playing bleed on guitar on 4" hit hats
Imagine being able to just buy cymbals lol…
I love this channel
you should totally contact lance campeau for some hammering snd lathe tips!
The description of the DJ ride sounds like something from AlliExpress.
Ive been doing that ziptie trick for 20 years
My favourite is the zip tie hack
6:30 you should play more Heavy Metal stuff.
The hi hats look like stop-motion
the gmd nebula sounds like a shopping cart return stall
If you're looking for some info on hammering/lathing that cymbal blank, I just put out this video on exactly that: th-cam.com/video/qpWZet1dSrQ/w-d-xo.html
I actually love the ultra trashy one! Such a unique sound!
that stainless steel thing sounds great
2:20
You mean all stands aren't geared? Lol I've been using the same Tama roadpro or Gibraltar hardware since the early 00s...
If I would like to buy a set of symbols do you think Zildjian classic aids would be the most appropriate for every music
biggest cymbals episode when
this 4'' hihat sounds better than all my cymbals combined
6:25 Bro violated the cymbal... 💀💀
That 27” GMD sounds phenomenal!
Also wondering why you didn't light the candle on your snare drum... you know, for romance. 💕
How many drum keys does rdavidr have on hand at any time? At some point do you just start throwing them away? Secretly dropping them around town for others to find?
Love all the cymbals!
that goober calin itself a GMD does do well in doom don't it
That ride looks like it was during the roman era as shields
you should try the sabian AAX Manta Ray if you have not allready
For the algorithm. ✊
Not gonna lie, my Griffin snare is pretty damn good!
You should add some rivets to those little hihats.
Fuck yes ! That big ass trash was awesome. Great sludge track!
The blank sounds great
Man please start posting content more frequently. This channel is too awesome for me to stay away from a month at a time
Stainless
Steel
Sizzle
❤
Make that blank fit the arbor of an angle grinder and lathe it that way? 😂
The Daru ride sounds terrible, wouldn't even use it for a crash or splash. Sounded okay as a hi hat. The Wuhan blank sounded great to me
You called your sponsor the wrong name I believe. I’m pretty sure they’re geekstands😅
pretty damn good
The trashy cymbals I have always had a thing for. Love the cut. Haven't seen stainless used since Lance Campeau. All are interesting
David, I love you more than any other drum youtuber, but you messed up the pictures of cymbals with alloys completely...😅😁 2002 is B8 and Signature is closer to B20 but its own thing. Sorry if that was on purpose😁
What snare is that?
9:55 BLEED!
I like that you are showing cymbal variations, I wonder might you also get away from the "pop" sounding drums. Try some tunings that make engineers wince... make them work for their money.
Any particular ideas? I'd love some weird tunings myself
Like the Wuhan blank
Rdavidr LETS GO!! 💯🥁
Mom wake up! rdavidr posted!!!!!!!!
That 2002 Paiste is not B12, it's B8. Also the Paiste used for "B8" looks to be be a Signature which is B15 (Paiste Signature alloy).
Love your videos, but as a Paiste player, I shuddered a bit...
Hate to be that guy but:
Paiste Signature are B15
Paiste Rude/Giant Beat/2002s are B8
Meinl Soundcasters are B12
Talk to Timothy Robert’s from Reverie Drum co
Well, that definitely sounds like steel.
Yoooo doom metal grooves, alright!
The stainless steel cymbal sounded much better than I expected, as did the Wuhan blank. The others were much more questionable...
could i buy any cymbals like a crash a ride and hi hat
Weirdest drum idea: make a pop corn tin into a drum
I'm not a huge fan of most "trashy" cymbals outside of a good china, o-zone, or occasionally a dark dry ride...but that stainless cymbal surprised me. It's not something I could see myself using often, but I'd have one of those.
The more i heard him play it the more i liked it
Tgat sound caught me off guard as well.. it sounds so good
did NOT expect that kind of sound to come out of it for sure
Where can I purchase that stainless steel cymbal?
Woah, that blank sounds pretty good to be right now tbh; sounds like a decent washy crash/ride right now for a small kit
yeah! I'd absolutely buy that just as is
I have to agree. I thought it had a great ride sound for a small cymbal!
Agree!
Sounded rad. Closest thing to my old ass zildjian.
yeah, i can't believe he hated the sound so much
That Stoner Metal groove at 6:30 is awesome!
It'd be great for some early Alice in Chains.
Those cymbals sounded great for that track!
listen to some guys called Bossk, their track Heliopause is very similar. filth
@@louisbailie1349Thanks for the tip!
