I agree, I've used moongel and those exact same "bootleg" versions, much prefer the cheaper ones. Cant abide the moongels trying to attach to your fingers when you position them on the drum heads. I got blue gel stains too. Evans red gel is very similar to the bootleg ones (sticks well, not so tacky on the top surface), but it leaves a pink stain on the drum heads
The moon gel knock off was easily the best one out of the bunch. I was really surprised at the durability through the heat test. The Ludwig snare is also really solid and sounded as good as it looks🤌
I liked the fake moongels and your experiment. It’s very true that moongel fall apart and are unusable after dust and grime. Don’t drop them on your drum rug either! Really appreciate your info! 🏆
Had some good results extending the life of my moongels( brand or copy) by giving them a little wash and rince using room temp water and a little handsoap, even after falling of and getting all dusted and dirty, came back like new.
@dconvergadon5281 most people don't know that most of the main brand gels are washable. It even says it on the packaging. They last a while if you take care of them. I'm using the tandem drop dampeners now, and I love them.
My favourite product was the "30 Pieces Drum Dampeners Gels Silicone Gel Pads Soft Drum Dampeners For Drums Cymbals Tone Control, 30 Pieces, Color Set 1" 🥁
My favorite is the moongel knock-offs. Ive never been completely on board with moongel and have switched to using snareweights instead but seeing how much better the knock-off ones are I would use those as well. 👌🏻
I actually really liked the tip on the knock-off moon-gels. Looked useful since I feel like I'm always going through the normal moon-gels. Appreciate that!🔵👍🏼
My favorite product was easily the Ludwig Universal. 🥁 However, my favorite review/comparison was the Moongel vs knock-offs. I’ve never been a big fan of Moongels for all the reasons you mentioned. 🤘🏼
The knockoff Moongel was really impressive for the price. It is really smart to have one side not be sticky. Also the strong hold on the fake Moongel was cool too.😇
I love the knockoff moongels! 😃 Around the holidays, you can find window decor gels at the dollar tree, so that way you can have little Christmas trees in your toms!
As a younger drummer (15) it’s safe to say I’ve had to find some cheaper drum accessories and these bootleg moongels are probably the best I’ve seen in a while lol🤪
I was once at a gig where I left my drum honey so I went to a dollar tree and bought some of those Christmas window gel thingys. Actually ended up working as a cheap solution and I wasn't surprised when the cheap one worked today. Glad you opened this problem to the public 🙌
I really liked the Keplinger ching ring! Also I think the best bootleg part would be the fake moongels, they definitely performed better in your test! 🥁😁
Personally I’m a fan of the cheaper made moon gels, 1. Because you’re getting more gels compared to the RTOM ones and they’re still a similar size. 2. The option you can get multiple colors choice for these is always fun to see. 🥁🥁
The Moongel product didn't surprise me. I have been using another brand that looks a lot like your "knockoff" brand, and it's far superior to Moongel in every way imaginable.😊
The "30 Pieces Drum Dampeners Gels Silicone Gel Pads Soft Drum Dampeners for Drums Cymbals Tone Control, 30 Pieces, Color Set 1" was the best, for sure. They're on my wish list, now. Thanks David!
Loved the moongel comparison. Very intelligent staining comparison. Also loved finding out that the knockoffs arent sticky on both sides. Huge plus. Your drum hacks and comparisons are GENIUS!! ( is that enough kissing up??😉😘😉
I love the Ching ring, the fake one was really bad. I would purchase the expensive one. Now the moon gels, I love the fact that the cheap ones out did the moon gels brand. Great comparison love the video ❤🎉
I have a ton of history with moongel knockoffs (thanks in large part to you and "Mr. Star" 😂). I've hated moongel since I first used it back in highschool so it's nice seeing so many others making a product far superior to the "industry standard." Also, I really dig the fact these ones are tacky on only one side. Huge plus for me
I think the bootleg Moongel was my favorite product in this video. Real Moongels react with a LOT of surfaces. Don’t leave one on your studio desk overnight, for example. 😊
Honestly the moongel knockoffs really surprised me. I’ve seen that listing a dozen times, but I’ve never tested them. I always thought “well it’s 30 for $9, they can’t be that good.” Thank you for testing these! 💫
Out of the bootleg items, I liked the moongels. The muffling on them were not as great as the actual moongels but not terrible (the same cannot be said about some of the other bootlegs lol). I also found the lack of staining to be a plus. Out of the non-bootleg items, I liked the Meinl ching ring as I think it’s a nice balance between price and performance. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
6:50, can confirm, have a beater drum on my room that has had those cheaper Gels for months, they still stick, don't get fuzzy and dirty, and they don't stain, although they can kinda be tricky to take on gigs
the moongel experiment was my favorite. I've been using them for years and witnessed them breaking down the same way, even without exposure to harsh elements. Thanks for always making great content rdavidr 🥁🥁🥁
😂❤love that Ludwig snare. Your vid’s are informative and funny. I like altering gear and experimenting too, but not enough hours in the day. I enjoy watching your experiments so I don’t have to. Next project melt all my moongels. Thanks for checking that out first.
I liked the keplinger just because I believe it’s an accessory that can be used very well give it more sound and volume to your playing 😊❤ love the vids bro, keep it up
I liked the bootleg moon-gels because they are much better than the normal ones. I don't have a acoustic drum kit but I like to have that Ludwig snare if I had sound-proof foam and a acoustic drum kit if I have some money. But loving the video! :) 👍
I just bought the silicon cheapie moongels after watching your comparison. Ill probably never have to buy any more drum dampeners ...ever. So Thank you. 🎉😊
I like the dumpening stickers the most, those knok offs were originally the gel stickers for shoes to protect the back of your feet:D I used to buy them for like 1$ for 30 pieces. In Poland we used them as bootlegs for moongels for many years. It's funny that finally someone noticed that and is selling them as drum dumpeners.
"this is how high i could tune it before it exploded' tuning! 😂 fun fact: in HS & drum corps our instructors taught us how to 'double hoop' by adding an cutout drumhead hoop to an existing head usually an older head, replacing the rim snd tuning like normal finger tighten then cranking it up to pitch.. resulting in a really reefed tone on matching tenors but stretching those Remo's as far as they'd go! Old trick I'm surprised more don't use. The only catch is it adds more stress to the few lugs and can potentially blow the casings off of the shell 😮💨 Definitely worth an episode testing the theory. Old heads vs New! 🤔🧐
I’ve been using window clings in place of Moongel for years🤛🏽. I actually bought some of the knockoff ones you demoed and put them in tiny lock and lock style containers, to drag them around. 🤘
EastRock drums may not be so great but earlier this year I bought from Amazon an EastRock double braced heavy duty drum throne with a nice round padded seat....It's built like a TANK....
I have two favorites. The first one was the moongel vs bootleg Amazon version. The second is the Ching rings. I liked that Greg Keplinger Ching ring. I love how bright and loud it is🔥
I honestly rarely appreciate the sound of a ching ring, but boy howdy did I dig that Keplinger. Absolutely popped 🎊 in a really nice way. Also, thanks for making me feel like a fool for buying brand-name moongels when I was setting up my buddy's kit for recording.
That Gregg Keplinger Ching Ring sounded absolutely fantastic 🔥 Love your channel David, have made a few of your contraptions myself! The O-Jing being one of them!! 🥁
Well, definitely the bootleg moongel ❤ I've always used the cheap window decoration stickers, but they stain. These are not only better looking and not much more expensive than window stickers, but they have nice features like being sticky on only one side and not staining. Whoever developed them did the research moongel should have done in the first place.
Thanks for the breakdown of real vs bootleg accessories. I have the Meinl ching-ring and have always liked the sound and build, but now I'm interested in getting the Keplinger as it sounds great and looks like its made well.
Knock off moon gel for the win 🎉 I have used a lot of holiday window gels like you’ve shown in previous videos but those only being sticky on one side 10/10
Which one of these are you using on your drum set? 🤔
All of these, I'm cheap as hell!
Definitiv die 30 Stück Trommel-Dämpfer Gele Silikon Gel Pads Weiche Trommel Dämpfer für Trommeln Becken Ton Control, 30 Stück, Farbset 1 🌚
I ordered the Famogu wing nuts in red for my drummer because he’s going for a color scheme on his kit. He even has red cymbal felts now.
I do have a pack of moongels in my emergency kit, but I haven't used them yet. I also made my own "jingle-ring" out of found objects.
definitely the tama cymbal things🥁
The bootleg moongel is actually really impressive🤯
I wouldn't be surprised if they become more popular than the actual ones!
Thanks for the awesome drive m bid, love your vids 🥁🥁

The cheap gel dampers surprised me. They held up, left no mark, and seem to be made of a better material, for less price. That is a total win for me!🎸

I do the exact same thing! I love getting the Halloween ones!
@@J_Cadaverous right? It's just about that time too!
I bought a 200 pack of sticky hands for like $5-10
The Keplinger sounded so good! By far my favorite. I have the Meinl on my hi hat when I’m playing a more acoustic gig. Loved the video as always!! 🧔
The knock-off moon gels actually surprised me! Many drummers say to go and buy moongels but the knock-offs are just as good! 👍
As a younger drummer (15) it’s safe to say I’ve had to find some cheaper drum accessories and these bootleg moongels are probably the best I’ve seen in a while lol🤪
The fake Moongel was my favourite product. I've always had the problem of getting stick shavings etc on them 😂
I tried the 30 for $9 drum dampeners, and they worked as described in your video. Thanks!

Knock=offf moon gel was my fave, followed by the low-end snare that sounded surprisingly good.
I think the bootleg Moongel was my favorite product in this video. Real Moongels react with a LOT of surfaces. Don’t leave one on your studio desk overnight, for example. 😊

That was fun! It's pretty wild how just the weight of something, really shows how nice it is.
I have the cheap quick release set and I have been using them intensively for more than a year and they are intact, they have never failed me.
I love the knock off moon gel 🥶I play to buy some!
I think the wingnut thing was the coolest, because it was on a really similar level as the tama one 🪜
My favorite was the Keplinger ching ring. Nice loud sandy sounding! Thanks for all your awesome videos! ⚙
the bootleg drum regulator at the end had my rolling 💀 the bootleg moongel though was insanely impressive 👏
the moongel experiment was my favorite. I've been using them for years and witnessed them breaking down the same way, even without exposure to harsh elements. Thanks for always making great content rdavidr 🥁🥁🥁
My favourite was definitely the moon gel, it didn’t have as good dampening as the real deal but I’d use it any day! 👍
I loved that Biohazard joke! Definitely dig the knock off moon gels the most. Will likely pick some up.
My favorite was the ludwig snare. Definitely need it to bolster my snare collection!! 🥁 🥁 🥁
I really like the bootleg moongel. It worked surprisingly well 😯🥁
Knock off gels were surprising, going to buy them now. Great video.
The snare drum throw comparison between DW and knock off was the best because I was able to clearly see the difference between the two😎😎😎

I liked the bootleg moon-gels because they are much better than the normal ones.
I don't have a acoustic drum kit but I like to have that Ludwig snare if I had sound-proof foam and a acoustic drum kit if I have some money.

I have two favorites. The first one was the moongel vs bootleg Amazon version. The second is the Ching rings. I liked that Greg Keplinger Ching ring. I love how bright and loud it is🔥
that snare was my favorite product 🥁... I needs that thang!! 😊
I actually liked how dark the meinl ching ring sounded on the hats, but there was so much more depth to the sound once you put the custom on. 🥁
Favorite Product: Knock-Off Moon Gels! Great Video, by the way!
Gotta say, the cheap moon gels are impressive! The non sticky top side will help with the stick shaving OCD for sure 🥁
My favorite was the bootleg moongel very high quality for a cheap price and does not stain your drums 👍
The DW Mag Throwoff was pretty cool 😮. I’ve always wanted to experiment with something like that
i honestly loved the snare drum comparison between the ludwig and the 60 dollar one💀💀💀💀
I never knew those ching rings were a thing. Just recently started drumming and am loving learning new things from the reviews on your channel 😃

The Snare Drum Regulator, Snare Drum Regulator Part Installation Perfect Match for Playing was def the best :)
Definitely gotta say the moon gel 🌕🍧, pretty good for the price 👍
I liked the DW Mag knock off the most because I love having a good laugh
Knock off moon gel for the win 🎉 I have used a lot of holiday window gels like you’ve shown in previous videos but those only being sticky on one side 10/10

I liked the gel for sure. Good alternative to Moongel ...😊
I liked the moon gel "cheap replacement" 👍👍👍👍👍👍
