this is the same way I pick up my leopard geckos. I handle them quite regularly sometimes, and they're used to that and other than occasionally bumping them cause i have shaken hands, they aren't hurt. I feel so happy that my method of picking my geckos up, that I use to minimize stress, is the same method used for such significantly more delicate animals!
As someone who owns an axolotl, I’d also like to add that it is best to do it on the floor if you are a beginner so in case you drop it in the process (they are extremely slippery and some squirm) it is not a high fall. My aunt is an axolotl breeder and a customer once dropped their axolotl and it was bruised. Be careful and good luck!

And they eat worms, so you may want to get you a set of metal tongs like i have in other videos. I need to actually do full on care vids on my animals, which I haven't technically done yet.

My Axolotl have 2 dead gills, a blister on the head and won’t close his mouth. I rescued him 3 weeks ago. I already tried: • Tubbing in cold water with 3 daily water changes a day. • Organic black tea bath • Indian almond leaves bath • Salt bath What should I do, he is eating fine and very active at night.
Thank you for rescuing this guy! I would recommend looking into fridging the axolotl, if you've tried everything else. But that's kind of a last resort. Best of luck!
Is he better? If not, if you can, I think you probably will need to find an exotic animal vet that has experience treating axolotls. Fridging may give you some extra time to find a vet, but I don't think it will fix his problems.
I’m a new owner of 2 Axolotls. Do they get used to be handled? One of mine does not like the net at all and for future tank cleanings trying to think of the best way to remove her. Thanks in advance! Jus found your channel and love the videos.
They don't like being handled, and I would limit handling to only moving them if needed, like when putting them in a tub or a new tank. I'd pet them on the back gently before scooping them up and be very slow. If you're having a whole lot of trouble- you can gently lead them into a Tupperware container that can fit in your tank, and scoop them out that way! In my 'how to change water for a tubbed axolotl' I did that. I hope this helps! I'm SO glad you like my channel!

Hello! The short answer is yes. You can put your Axolotl in a tub with conditioned water for at least half the day. (If you were keeping him in the tub without a filter for several days, You'd want to change the water twice a day) The longer answer is- make sure you put yourself in a darker corner of the room so your Axolotl isn't stressed as much by the light. Don't let anyone touch him. Make sure the water you put in the tub is very cold because it will heat up as the time goes on (low 60s F) And when you transport him, make sure you are careful not to slosh him around too much. He should be fine :). If no one's around where your Axolotl is during parts of the open night, I'd put him in a dark quiet place. Commotion, sound, and light can all stress a squishy Axolotl :)

@@georgefound765 yes you can, but I like to use ice bottles sometimes if the water isn't too warm. You want to avoid shocking your axolotl by making the water temperature drop too quickly
If you want to stick your 'clean hand with no soap or lotion' in the tank and let your axolotl check it out- you can do that rarely :) It won't kill them to touch them. Just don't stroke them.

Good luck with that. My axolotl Chibs turns into a crackhead when you go to pick him up. I was moving him from his now too small 10 gallon to a 29 gallon and it was a b$$$h getting him out of there. I sure couldn’t just bounce my guy around lol
I'm not really seeing what you mean but, the sides of the tub are simi clear- so she may have bumped it with her nose. Some times touching their head will cause them to jerk a little- which is why any handling I keep to a very minimum.
I love the name squish lizard now...I wish they were actually lizards :D I've had a few others comment on my voice. I'm a very small person... I often get mistook for a kid :D

emily maggs no, they never bite me. The only time that my hands are ever in the tank and I keep it to a minimum is when I’m cleaning or feeding!

Fun Fact: If you removing an Axolotl out of its tank, you can also use a Fine Mesh Net that won't entangle its body parts.
