The white spots are called iridophores and they are not present on all axolotls your axolotl has to have the genetics for high iridophores. They range from white to sparkly gold. I raise axies too and I just wanted to comment that the spots aren't necessarily from age. Although yes, they're almost always on wild types. Goldens can have them too but it's less noticable.
Hi Soda, thank you for yet another good video on axolotl care.
However, I noticed that you have a piece of wood in the aquarium, and this is highly unsafe for the axolotl. When wood (all real wood) comes in contact with water, small organisms are formed. Often it is flagellates. Fish can live well with these parasites in the water. with axolotls, however, it is a different matter. These parasites spread rapidly in the aquarium and attach to the mucosal skin of the axolotle and to its interior. Over time they eat and weaken the axolotl, often attacking the organs.
Unfortunately this is not well known, outside of Germany (and partially Denmark) as it was only discovered by scientists around 20 years ago, and (I think) all the studies are in german. But for the safety of your (gorgeous) lotl, it is best to only use fake wood decorations and do a big waterchange after removing the real wood.
I hope this doesn't sound rude, and I would love it if you could touch on this part of axolotl care at some point. Because, as I mentioned before, it is not well known and people often use real wood in the aquarium with their axolotl.

I’ve seen people boil wood to disinfect it for tanks. does that help the chances of an axolotl not getting parasites? or is it better to not have wood at all? (I don’t have an axolotl, just curious)
@@marupii That I don't know. But I would assume that it does no difference. Just like algae and bacteria, these harmful organisms are very small, and the wood in itself is not the problem. The problem is that the wood is the perfect place for flagellates to multiply and as their numbers increase they pose a great health risk to the axolotl over time.
I wish I could give you a better answear, but all I know is that all natural wood is considered unsafe for axolotls in aquariums :)

@@Miku_Berry This is not my personal opinion, but what I was taught by a proffessional who has participated in plenty of scientific papers on axolotls. Wood is harmful because it acts like a breeding ground for harmful bacteria in the aquarium. That is just a fact.
That many people is unaware and choose to ignore this when they learn about it is just unfortunate.

I will say water proof tiles instead of sand has saved me more time on cleaning and your axolotl will still be able to grip on it.
The reason I take my axle out of my take is because I’ve heard around a lot of things that they can get stressed when you put them in there while you’re cleaning

My sister had an axolotl but was moving out, she told us over and over again, that her friend was gonna take him, the day she was moving my dad told her, anything you leave here will be thrown away, she left the Axolotl. I feel so bad for him, and right now we are trying to figure out wether i take care of him, or we find him a better home then my sister. We don't know when the last time she fed him was, as well as the water in the tank is below half the height of the tank at this point
Yeah when I got mine as a little baby he had two missing Gills and he's basically fully grown now in a 30gal with a chiller kept at 63°f and they never grew back there just like little nubs

My sister has an axolotl and I went to touch it lightly (it had never been touched before so I don’t think a tiny pet would hurt) and saw a layer of like dirt and dead skin I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone clean its cage I already have two pets I have to take care of but I guess now I’m taking care of a third

What do you use to siphon the water from the bucket into the tank? Currently I have to use a bucket and slowly dump it into the tank, but it always ends up kicking up the substrate and displacing it.
Hi SodaPets! I'm currently researching a WHOLE lot on axolotls since I'm getting one. Right now I'm cycling the tank btw. For a full grown axolotl, would you recommend feeding them 1 or 2 worms a day? And for a juvenile 3-4 inches, could i feed them an earth worm or a blood worm and how much? Thank you! (WAIT P.S, how many rapashy grub pies should I feed a full grown axie? TY

The only reason why I remove my axolotls is cause one try’s to Full on ingest the siphon and the other runs (swims) away and stirs up the gunk and poop and every thing else

Two questions, 1 what kind of filter/bubbler is that, 2 if the temp gets to hot or cold how to u make it the right temp
if its too hot you can just get a fan and aim it towards the tank, if its too cold you can use a water heater but it probably wont get too cold unless your house is super super chilly

axolotls are so cute! i want one but i know its not the right thing to do because it wont get looked after properly, i can bearly even look after my dead lizard (passed away) a bird and a dog, tbh im not like 15 im 10 but i still cant look after them properly cuz my dog tries to EAT the bird so we cant get it out and my mum has been staying here a while and she dont like birds so we cant get it out or she will shout at us

How the heck do you clean everything without crashing your cycle?! I cleaned one ornament in old tank water and it crashed 😌 I’m too scared to even vacuum the sand now (I’ve just got it cycled again, axolotyl is still tubbed)
