We got Carcassonne from a friend about a year ago and it's definitely been our most common game since then. It's not new (I think the first edition came out in the 80s or 90s) but I see why it's becoming a bit of a classic. Talk about a game that's different every time - and yet, there is a subtle strategy, which curiously changes depending on the number of people playing. 10/10 would recommend!
@@Falltothesea If it makes you feel better, 'vegetable' is specifically a culinary term not botanical, so is determined more by how you use it rather than what part of the plant it comes from. Something can be both a botanical fruit but also a culinary vegetable like tomatoes, peppers, pumpkin, squash, avocado, etc
I would recommend Castles of Mad King Ludwig! you design a castle floor plan essentially, and I think it's a really good level of player agency without getting stuck stressing over strategy too much. so, kinda chill, a bit competitive, and you each end up with your own personal castle design 👌
If you enjoy the slower pace of splendor and Dorf, you'd absolutely love the parks series! You set out as a group of hikers, and there are absolutely no stakes outside of trying to get the most points! On top of that it has a beautiful design with amazing illustrations! Also also, the splendor expansions are awesome! Me and my mates don't tend to use a couple of them much but they mix up the usual flow just enough to add a little bit more variety to your games night 😎
I love these videos because each year I try to buy a joint Christmas present for my family, which is always a board game. I think I'll be getting herd mentality this year! Thank you for the great recommendations as always PJ :)
from every "fav board games" video, i always get at least one of them! i trust you!! 8 years ago i got gloom and its been a big hit amongst friends ever since!
I really think you would love these two games I’ve been playing a lot lately! One is Canopy(you get cards to build a tropical rainforest and grow trees but beware the blights, droughts, disease, and fire cards!) and the other is Canvas(you layer translucent cards to produce literal works of art to hit specific targets such as color makeup to score points). Both are absolutely beautiful and really entertaining and good for small groups! While there are points involved in them I’ve never had a game night with my hyper competitive friends that went off the rails because the games were so pretty and so chill
I full heartedly can never recommend stardew the board game enough. Every group of people I bring to play it start very uninterested but are all screaming about forage on the 2nd day of winter and how they can donate to the museum. A truly perfect board game
Last game rec video you recommended Gloom, and it has now become one of my favorite games to pull out at game nights with all my friends who are classics nerds and love the gothic Victorian vibes!! Seeing as Halloween is coming up, I want to recommend my FAVORITE game of all time that I always play on Halloween-it’s called “Betrayal at House on the Hill” and in it, you and your friends are a group of adventurers each with your own stats exploring an ever-changing haunted house with events, items, and omens to uncover. But wait! Halfway through the game, one player BETRAYS the others (usually with the help of some supernatural forces), and the game becomes a race to either stop the betrayer, or use your newfound supernatural abilities to lead to the others’ downfall. It’s really great spooky vibes, and it’s different every time because you create a new layout for the house tiles and choose a new betrayal scenario every game! HIGHLY recommend!’
People from my uni made Dorfromantik, so its very strange (but cool) to see people from other countries (let alone TH-camrs I've been watching for quite some time) play it. The world's so small! ✨
Wow that's so cool! Funny enough, our University decided that one of our course was going to be developing our own abbridged version of Dorfromantik. Crazy how such a simple Indie game can have such a great impact
One of my absolute favorites is Cosmic Encounter! At the start of the game you get to be a randomly selected alien with an absolutely broken ability that shifts the game in different ways. Each player gets their own unique alien that is kept secret until they activate their abilities. The overall goal is to colonize on 5 different planets that are owned by other players. It is a great time and will most likely make the players rage at each other. It's a great time
I will always recommend Betrayal at House on the Hill - its such a good collaborative party game but also so unpredictable and even people who don't like board games love it because it feels more like an experience than a game. Also Eldritch Horror is a fab one if you wanna spend 3 hours working on something Solo or with a group, with tons of spooky encounters to spark your imagination. I always love these videos, I've taken so many recommendations from them
My partner and I have a board game tavern we go to and some of my favorites to play recently have been Boop, Dulce, The Light in the Mist, Head Trip, and What Next. Boop is a cute 2 player cat game where you’re trying to boop the other player’s cats off the bed, Dulce is a tile and card based game where you’re building bakeries and gathering ingredients for them, Light in the Mist is a tarot-based puzzle game with a really interesting narrative where you’re trying to find your lost friend, head trip is a party game made by CAH that’s very fun and stupid, and What Next? is a choose your own adventure type of card game that comes with 3 adventures to start with.
Oooh do you two know Fluxx? It’s easily playable with 2+ players and it’s a quick, wacky card game that changes all the time! It’s my favorite to play with my partner, along with Fox in the Forest
I'm so serious but I need everyone to play Before There Were Stars at least once. It's a storytelling game where players take on the roles of village elders who tell the story of the birth, evolution, and eventual collapse of their people and you cast dice to figure out which constellations you can use to tell your story.
Ooo hell yeah new board game video!!! I bought The Mind because of your video and it’s the favorite of the friend group!! If you’re looking for recommendations, Root is a super high strategy, beautiful and creative game where each player has different rules they have to follow! I also love Doomlings which is a card game where you place little creatures that represent life forms evolving and you have to get as many point as you can before the third apocalypse hits!
I absolutely adore this series, I'm such a big board game/card game nerd, so I love hearing your suggestions on games. Funnily enough The Stardew Valley board game is one of the current games me and my friend group have been playing, and it has been very fun. As I did on the last board game video, my current recommendation for a fun board game is Detective Club. It's a social deduction game (most similar to Chameleon imo), but it uses interesting art cards rather than word prompts (if anyone has played Mysterium, very similar art cards to that game). It's very easy to learn, and is a relatively quick game as well, so it's a great starter game for the night :)
I’m so happy there is another board game videos! I got isle of cats because of PJ. Quicky question- is Dorfromantik a blend of similar vibes to Carcassonne and Catan?
I currently enjoy Raising Robots, Ares Expedition, 7 Wonders: Duel, Obsession, Welcome to the Moon... and many more. Wingspan and Turing Machine are perpetual favorites.
Slay the spire sounds similar to Clank! It's a dungeon crawler, deck building game where you sneak into a dragon's lair and try to sneak out with treasure without waking him up and getting eaten. Any time you fail/trip over you Clank! aka make a loud noise and the dragon gets closer to waking up. Very fun! For vibes similar to Dorf Romantik, I recommend Calico, where you created patterned quilts for cats to sleep on 🥺
i love these videos so much ❤ I hope you'll make more in the future, your recommendations are really interesting and the vibe is so cozy! A boardgame I've been enjoying these months is Carnival of Monsters 🙏✨
I have been so tempted to get the Stardew game and this may be the sign i needed 👀 I wanna recommend Parks (it’s a stunning game about visiting national parks) and Scotland Yard: Sherlock Holmes Edition (it’s an all vs 1 game where you’re chasing Moriarty across London via different modes of transport) - two of my all time favourite games!! Thanks for the video!! ✨✨
Okay, you’ve convinced me to get the Stardew Valley board game! I’m a big fan of Herd Mentality too, I own a lot of Big Potato games, they’re very fun. Love the jumper too!
i love splendor❤ me and my friends go to a lot of board games events and we always end up playing it at some insane past midnight hours when our brains slowly stop working
YES the one game i've played of stardew was surprisingly tense! our win/loss ended up coming down to the roll of a single die 😅 i'll need to check out some of the other games on this list - i want to build up a board game collection that's unique from my other friends
herd mentality sounds like a copy of konsensus, but then again it's not the most original idea so probably nothing sinister there 😅 i like the visual design of konsensus way more tho i wanna get dorf romantik boardgame, i've thought about getting the game on switch but i'm afraid i'd waste too much time with it, so a board game would be perfect!
I've recently got into board games. Castles of burgandy is similar to dorf romantik but it uses dice and a set player board. 6 second scribbles is a fun little game for parties. Planted is fun for those that enjoy growing houseplants 🪴
"I didn't know you were going to moo" 😭😭
splendor? i hardly
Lmfao

Thanks for the shout out! So many great recs here!!!
I was like fuck yeah vegetable beginning with C = cucumber.. NOOOOO - oh wait a cucumber isn't even a vegetable
I was thinking cucumber too :')
Not me at 30 learning a cuc is a fruit
@@Falltothesea If it makes you feel better, 'vegetable' is specifically a culinary term not botanical, so is determined more by how you use it rather than what part of the plant it comes from. pj always puts these videos out like 3 days before im having a games night. THAT'S NOT ENOUGH TIME TO GET ALL OF THESE!!!!!

And Trails for a travel sized variant of Parks ❤

would recommend either Planet or Cascadia for you to try out! They are similar in strategy / playstyle to Dorf Romantik. Plus they are BEAUTIFUL
Ditto on Planet!
I full heartedly can never recommend stardew the board game enough. Every group of people I bring to play it start very uninterested but are all screaming about forage on the 2nd day of winter and how they can donate to the museum. A truly perfect board game

this is wonderful omg i just joined my college’s board game club and i’ve already played most of your other recommendations 😅😅 love u peej
i loved seeing some single player options for the introverts who still want a little board game fun :)

I saw Stardew valley in the thumbnail and i’ve never clicked faster
ohh my boyfriend loves slay the spire, i might buy it for him as a christmas present :3 thanks pj!
Have you ever played everdell? It's a management game with a cute story as background, and the art is adorable
I love Splendor, it's such an easy game to get new players into, since you don't have to spend three hours explaining the rules!
