    We're doing this exact same tile in our bathroom! It has such a unique look you just can't get from standard tile. Everyone loves it when they see it. Yours looks absolutely phenomenal!!! It brings a new level of character and "upscale- ness" to the room ❤

    so so worth it, if one can afford it and has the patience to install it. An affordable option, though you won't get the unevenness authentic Zellige offers, is Amagansett tile, by Ivy Hill, offered at home depot. It's limited colors, but it has that opalescence and uneven tile face to it. I used it in my bathroom and it's stunning. The other thing is, to give that Zellige look, it to stack the tile like you did, not where one tile is laid over the seam below the two tile below(like you typically lay brick). I love Zellige and it does come in some incredible colors. It's timeless elegance.

    • @Drewdoode

    • @Drewdoode
      @Drewdoode  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Since zellige is natural and porous it absorbs water. If you don’t soak. It’ll absorb water out of the thinset causing it to be too dry once placed on the wall and it won’t be as strong of a bond.

    • @funtimesindeed
      @funtimesindeed ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I've tried calling the tile manufacturer but they don't have any answers for me. Maybe you can help:
      I'm installing zellige tile around a fireplace hearth. Small square footage. low traffic. The subfloor is concrete so I have to use a Ditra membrane. I'm assuming this is ok with such a thick tile? My second question is: how thick of a mortar bed is appropriate for these thick tiles? Its amazing how little info is out there and I feel like this is more like masonry then tile.
      TIA!

    • @Drewdoode
      @Drewdoode  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@funtimesindeed Hey there is definitely not a lot of info out there and a lot of tilers won’t even install zellige. I’m totally down to help!
      So if you have concrete subfloor you actually don’t need the ditra. Since concrete doesn’t flex like wood subfloor it can be installed directly onto the concrete. Using ditra is fine too though. Thick tile shouldn’t matter on the ditra or concrete subfloor. Ditra just requires tile larger then 2x2 I believe. We used a 1/4”x1/4” square notch trowel. We back buttered as well. I think any smaller may not get coverage. And larger not needed.

    Zellige isn't overrated but I think that by using one color you're ultimately limiting yourself in what you can do and are missing why zellige is so highly prized. I'm not saying that you need to make an intricate mosaic for you shower, but I think the monochromatic design trend that is seen a lot in western countries, particularly America, is overrated to the point of being pretentious.
