I have a 535i xDrive with dynamic drive and the power steering pump is full of power steering oil. I want to pull it out to rebuild it. Manuals say, I should take out the ac-compressor out first. But I do not want to do that, because I do not have the machinery and the experience to empty and recharge the AC-System. Is there a way to take out the pump without pulling the Ac-Compressor? Thank you!
The belt on my X5 just felt off while I was doing 60 mile/hours on highway. I lost steering while my daughter was in the back seat. Luckily my farmer's instinct kicked in and I was able to steering the car off the highway by standing up from the driver seat and use the muscles on both of my arms and muscles on my waist and legs. BMW is POS. I will drive Toyota for the rest of my life.
Hi! Can you tell me what the noise sounded like before replacing? I have a 2013 X5 that is making a screeching sound that gets loud when I slowly accelerate but then stops when I brake. Everything I google seems to point to a pulley. Thank you!
My engine wasn’t making a screeching sound just a little crackling of bearings. A screeching noise could mean multiple things but may be that you need a new serpentine belt. I say replace pulleys and tensioner along with belt while you’re in there.
I'm just over 86k miles on my 2013 X5 35i my tensioner is becoming little loose and doing some intermittent quiet squeaking. So i need to arrange replacement for the belt, tensioner and pulley(s)? How many more miles im still good before i have to get down to business on this?
I would say get to it as soon as you can. I am a believer of good preventative maintenance, so I don’t have to deal with a vehicle that lets me down while driving.
According to BMW I believe it is a "torque yielded bolt and needs to be replaced and torqued to appropriate specs?? input from other BMW owners/ Ballston DIY can possibly answer this question and the size and part number of this bolt ty
The tensioner should have arrived with a pin installed to hold back the pulley from contacting the belt so the belt can easily be installed. Once the belt is in place you will have to put breaker bar with torx socket applied to tensioner, first turn clockwise to allow remove pin t
If the pin is missing from tensioner you will have to connect breaker bar and torx to tensioner arm, rotate clockwise until enough room is created for belt to slip on, hold position, install belt, then slowly allow to rotate counterclockwise until contacts belt.
You don’t show how you took the tension off the belt to remove it. Also aside from the Torx bits were there any other special tools? I’m at 45k and the belt tensioner is vibrating.
To relieve tension, use long handle ratchet or breaker bar applied to large torx socket middle of tensioner arm. Take a look at video 3/4 way through, I show re-applying tension to belt; just do reverse to loosen tension. Torx 60

(which is expensive for the regular joe) . is it a 6203DDU in those bmw???, The spring tensioner assembly is just a lot of coins here where i live. In the past i have just replaces the new bearings with SKF, NTN (japan brand)over the years on many different types of vehicles and these bearing are readily available in my town at the bearing store. Did you ever replace them in these x5 or in a 2010 year and up on the x5 35i 3.0litre turbo or would there be a different bearing style in these bmw's?. I dont want to take it apart and then find out it a rare tyle bearing. ty sir for your input and thoughts.
battlehrfred - I’m sure you can replace just the bearing but I couldn’t tell you the size unfortunately. I already disposed of the old tensioner and bearing so I can’t tell you the size.
Lots of diagrams available online if you search for the BMW N55 engine serpentine belt. I found this link, same routing on f30 with N55 engine. f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1813269&stc=1&d=1524738968 I also suggest taking multiple photos or video of your vehicle serpentine belt before removing it as a reference.
You could put a little more of what actually has to take place in order for you to do this simple maintance in your video because you left alot out not sure if it's because you didn't re ird or because of how you did it and you just didn't want that to be seen. Waste of my time

I changed my alternator thinking the whining comes from there but it wasn’t so the idler pullers and tension pulleys whine?

What size belt did it need??? Got 2 belts from O'Reillys and 1 from bmw and their both wrong

How did you get the other belt back on? I have been trying for 3 hours and its so tight I can get it close to going over the last pulley.
