I knew I enjoyed your videos. Now I’m wondering if there’s a little magic involved. In this video, around the 9:33ish mark, you are taking one last microscopic sliver off the cardboard strip. The book you’re working on is to your left, about a couple of inches from your hand. While you are slicing, the book, apparently on its own, moves over until the corner is under your pinky. First I thought it must be someone off screen, but why would they do that when you’re using an exacto knife? Ghost? Or magic? 🤔
Hahahaha or is it eeeeeek! LOL I went back and watched it. What the! I have no idea but it freaked me out a little bit. 🤪I replayed it like 10x. Thank you so much for watching and btw I was the only one in the room (or was I?) `😉
@@tennesseesangerchild9859 No. I saw it when I was watching straight through, then went back to find it later. The time I mention is approximate, and the book moving part is very brief.
@@tennesseesangerchild9859 Hi, I replayed it just now and it looks like it may have just slid. I did place the cover on top of the other journal. So maybe that's it. 🤭🤪 It's just so strange to watch, hehe
Finally! A tutorial that doesn't mean losing the iconic spine. I have never made a journal but ive been asked (by my daughter) to make something that will record her youngest 2 childrens' time at nursery. I really like the idea of using a childrens book and keeping the story throughout. Thank you x
I love your method of saving the golden spine on the LGB. I am so inspired by your method I’m a new subscriber and have been binge watching you and getting so many ideas! So of course with the algorithm of “you tube” a 3 year old LGB “ Junk Journaling for Absolute Beginners” #2 Miss Paintalot showed up and I watched it. I think you will find it interesting how she prepares the pages for the signatures. She makes her adjustment in the middle with very little if any interruptions in the graphics. It’s a bit tedious but I would love to see you try it with your superior binding method. TFS❤
This is by far the best LGB tutorial I've seen! I also cringed when I watched others cut off the golden spine. Thank you for showing us this. New subscriber! 😀
Amazing discovery and absolutely gorgeous ideas !!! WOWWWWW!!!!! so beautiful, Lilian!!!!! You have inspired me to try something with an adorable Christmas book I found!!!! Thanks for this lovely video!!!!!
Oh my gosh! Such a great idea. I am currently working on one of these cute books. I’m making a Spider-Man book for my stepson. He will be 25 this month but I’m sure he’ll like the book. I’m using it as a photo album. I did cover the back cover with spider man fabric and brought a bit of the fabric to the front. I wish I can post pictures here for you to see. I love how you saved the gold part! Thank you always for all your great ideas. Have a good rest of your weekend and have a safe 4th of July.
Hi Margie! What a fantastic gift for your stepson. 😊 There are so many great LGB ideas and creating one to use as a photo album is a great idea. He's going to love it. Thank you so much for your kind words. Enjoy your holiday as well. xo 😊😉
This!! I had given up trying to find a way to make the Little Golden Book junk journals because all of them cut-up the books, used fabric, etc, and I just don’t have the patience/wherewithal/interest in doing all of that. Your video showed up on my feed today and I am thrilled. THANK YOU 🙏🏼
You just blew my mind. I’ve wanted to do a little golden book but I’ve been so intimidated by the process. you made this look so easy I can’t wait to start a new project.
Hi Darla! Thank you so much! I know what you mean about being intimidated but this is the easiest process ever. Let me know how it turns out. Thank you for your kind words. 😊😉😃
Thank you for sharing this fantastic tutorial!! I’m a new subbie to your channel, looking forward to catching up on your other video’s. My little girl is also named Lillian/Lilly, such a pretty name 🌸
Thanks so much! 😊 I'm so happy you are here. It is a beautiful name for your daughter ;) It wasn't until I was in JH/HS when my BFF began to call me Lily and it stuck. Hehehe I appreciate you being here and watching my videos.
Yes! Thank you for sharing your technique. I had pried one of mine open in a similar way but did not even think to cut off the part of the staples sticking out or folding them back down.🤦♀ Instead I tried to carefully pull them out thinking I could do it with little damage, but I did not like how it turned out.
Diane, it's trial and error. I'm currently working on another LGB junk journal and I struggled with the binding. I made so many mistakes but kept at it. I will have a video up soon showing my mistakes and how I made it work. Mistakes are just part of the creative process. Keep at it! 😊
Love your channel i like it without the frame its cute but I like it without i hope you make a video with making the signatures pockets ephemera etc id love to see it
Let me just say I love your work and you have give me some great ideas! Although I still like seeing the golden spin on the front of the book. So I split the book and add a spin and then add another golden book foil to the center. You just have to make sure they are the same design.
I'm so glad you pulled great ideas from this video. At the end of the day, it's about making and having a creative process. Thank you for being here and watching my video. 😊
Hi Llian, I love what you’re doing and enjoyed your video. I wonder if there’s anything that can be done differently so that the title of the book can be seen? I really like the use of the matt. Maybe it can be cut thinner so that we don’t lose the title. Thanks for your time!
Hi and thank you so much for being here and watching my video. There are so many great techniques to alter a book for junk journaling. My FAVORITE thing to do and what I enjoy most when altering books is getting really creative with the covers. I love the look of embellishments on the front and I absolutely love using frames and photo mattes and florals. My art is to create something new from something old. The best part of making is being able to create in a way that makes you happy. Enjoy the process and have fun. 😊
Ok, your hand was not on the book when it moved. Whoa! I loved all your tips. I failed at selling a Golden Book, but maybe now I have ideas and might be able to remake it. I would change the rings to a spine like you made. Maybe cutting the spine lost the integrity of the book. I love the frame on the cover - but, it hides the title. Decisions, decisions.
Hello and thank you so much for watching! I have no idea how that moved, crazy right! hehe I love the look of the frames on the front cover but like you said, so many decisions and great options. I'm not afraid to create different looks and love trying out new things. Have fun giving it another go. :)
Great question. Yes! Except that 10 papers folded in half will give you 40 pages. For example, one piece of paper folded in half will now create 4 sides or 4 pages. You can compose a signature with as little or as many pages you like. Hope you found this helpful. Thank you for being here.
Hi Linda, thank you so much! I am also on IG madybyrockalily and FB facebook.com/madebyrockalily (though not as active on FB). Thank you for watching and being here. :)
Hi Lucy, this is a great question... I will most likely do a 3 hole pamphlet stitch binding to sew in the signature as I do with all my journals. I will pierce through the spine but it will not damage it however it will clearly show the stitching nice and neat against the gold foil. I do have the option of a hidden spine, too. Hope this helps. I will do a follow-up video with the signature in place. Thank you for watching and being here. 😊
Hello Heidi, here is a video that may help answer your question. I add the signatures and story to the cover. Hope you find this helpful. Thank you. th-cam.com/video/wb9dtoF10u8/w-d-xo.html
When you put your signatures together, do you use the whole innards of the book or just some? By the way I am not addicted to your channel, just found it today.
Thank you for being here and watching my video. I've not done craft shows in a few years but when I did, and cash was not an option, I charged for my handmade goods through the Square App and card reader on my phone. I now only sell my journals online through my Etsy shop. Thank you for asking. I hope you find this helpful. :)
The corners with the heart designs I pick up at Hobby Lobby in the wood craft section. It's hardware typically used for decorative corners of wooden plaques. They're called Antique Bronze Plated Heart Corners
Now that I have found you again (I messaged another woman by mistake), I do have a question. Since you are using the entire golden spine on the book spine, how do you get the signatures into the book without damaging the golden sticker?
Hi Debbie! Great question. I appreciate you watching my videos. I do have a video where I show how I add the signatures to the LGB's. I do stitch right through the golden binding however it doesn't damage it., it's just pierced straight through. When I say I don't damage the spine I mean I'm not tearing nor ripping it out. I am careful when stitching in the signatures. They turned out great. Thank you for being here!
