    Excellent instructional video. You must have had training as a military instructor to have done such a fine job on this! My father flew the IIB in Malta. Kudos to his brave mates that made the ultimate sacrifice when overwhelmed by the 202's and 109s.

    Yes, the Hawker Hurricane! I've always adored this bird, even more than the Spit. Thank you for the video!

    The spit gets the credit but the Hurricane was always my favourite WW2 fighter.

    The start up procedure was changed between the Mk.I and Mk.II Hurricanes. On the Mk.I, the fuel tank had to be set to the reserve tank as the main tanks' fuel pumps would not operate until after the engine had been started. The reason for the change was new pilots would often forget to switch back to the main tanks after take off and then suffer an engine stoppage 10-15 minutes later, this was known as a "Gravity Charlie".

      @@ukaircraftexplored6556 no worries, I found the information in a 1943 Fleet Air Arm training film titled "Fighter Pilot", where the trainees fly Hurricane Mk.Is, well worth a watch.

    Bryan, The Hurricane, I am looking forward to this series, It is so different to the Spitfire, and a lot more interesting to look inside and as a Rigger a lot more interesting to work on.

    Fascinating, thank you! From my own limited experience of starting aircraft engines, a great deal of 'knack' is required beyond following the words in the manual. Getting the priming just right so the engines catches is as much of an art as it is engineering.

    Thanks, Bryan. Always loved the Hurricane - such a ‘business first’ aircraft. Can’t wait for the next installment.

    excellent video,quick question how does the booster coil work

    • @ukaircraftexplored6556
      @ukaircraftexplored6556  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching. The low rpm of the Merlin engine during initial starting would not actuate the magneto with enough speed to generate the required high-tension current for engine ignition; consequently, the booster coil is actuated at the same time the starter switch is closed for cranking, thus providing the high voltage needed for safe, clean engine start up.
