I enjoyed what I heard of the PRS through that, but I think that pedal was made for Strat/single-coils. So organic and expressive. Pairing it with the Swollen Pickle was extra juicy. Bad pun intended.
great tones Leon 🙌, when you pull back on the volume knob that's where a lot of magic happens i feel, it has this nice sort of focus to the tone, but it can get a bit out of control with higher tone and gain settings (which will be more accentuated depending on the amp) ,very cool addition to the rig in any case curious to hear your thoughts on a Nobels ODR-1 , that's the other somewhat green machine =) i haven't really touched, the new keeley pedal with those modes sounds very interesting in any case
Great demo. I was wondering if you were using the Suhr or Illitch noiseless single coil system. I love the tone of those Landau pups. The Maxon sounds amazing. I've never owned onne but have owned Tube Screamers which I love.
@@LeonTodd Oh, I forgot about that one! I'll look into it. I've heard very few stacked single coils that sound like a true single coil, so I've been thinking that a system like this makes the most sense.
This is a great pedal! For years now I’ve used the SD into the Tech 21 British pedal. I dial up just light crunch JCM 800/900 on the British then I can slam that with the Sonic Distortion and it’s amazing. So versatile too.
JB Brubaker uses one in August Burns Red. Well, he used to lol. They're straight fractal now as far as i know, not sure what they record with but they previously used 6505 and Maxon OD and Mesa 4x12
The Henderson SH9 is like an optimized SD9. Not as clangy with the high-mids and fuller in the low-mids. I haven't tried Landau's signature pedal, but his has a few extra bells & whistles.
That Pedal Show is definitely the place where I learn not all the green pedals are the same. And then in the end when I don't pay attention to it and someone great plays, it still boils back down to "slightly distorted guitar sound good me like". This one sounds quite "rouhea", idk if the translation would be something like coarse, rough, hoarse, something that goes crack in mouth. Maybe it's just crunchy, I was blanking until you said it. I find this one of those nice distortion sounds that aren't very dense, but has a lot of nice gaps in the crunch. Cool backing track, very nice bass line in the first jam!
Love ML iw as introduced to his playing on Steve Perry's solo album, the song She's Mine, the Mid and outro solos are so awesome great tone and feel Never knew he used a SD-9 though and as always Love your Playing 🤘
Ibanez has another incredible dirt pedal that flew under the radar, the JD9. Last I knew they go for super cheap so you should check one of those out too if you get a chance
I’m going to get one of these, and start my own tribute group The Landau Association I’m totally kidding about that you got some great tones in there! The other Leon might’ve played a slower intro to armed and ready over the backing track though at the beginning!
Two words my friend… “Butter Machine”… Now that you’ve been bitten by the Maxon bug you’ll LOVE the Vemuram. The tone knob has a much more usable range and the trim pot tone adjustments you can make you’ll dial that sucker in like a mofo. Excellent review as always sir! Will look forward to your Vemuram review 😜
I've compared the two, into a cleaner fender style amp the Vemuram may have the edge, but into a cranked plexi the raw balls of the SD9 may be my pick by a hair ;-)
I checked those guys out a little.. but you and this strat is the bomb.. then the birds 🐦🐦🐦 showed up on my fav PRS now .. funny you related it to a cross of tele and strat and it reminded me I was gonna put a tele bridge on my perfect sapphire sparkle mist blue Peavy strat cause the pocket underneath the trem is messed up ... And keep as many original pups .. might look good enough for someone to copy .. great sound for that bolt on PRS , you've really picked the best deal on a PRS in my opinion...and lupins too , he loves to listen to those little 🐦 🐦 birdies sing the way you play it ... He's a Kool Cat 😸 from down under that knows all the tunes .. 🌏 you are gonna have to play that one everytime now mate
What kind of pickups in that strat? Just kidding. 😂❤. Everyone new always asks so I couldn't resist. ❤😂 That pedal did kinda sound like an amp. It seemed bass heavy to me a little, but my ears don't work after years of shooting and blasting tube amps . My ears are just on my head to balance my face. 😂 Very cool brother. ❤ I remember those back in the day. If memory serves me it was kinda popular. It was for sure early 80s I believe. ❤ I will check out black strat blues. Ya gotta love the title too and the rush Grace under pressure is cool man. I saw them either four or five times. After seeing them on the 2112 tour in like 77 I was mesmerized by them and have been a huge fan as well since ! ❤ Be well sir and be safe man❤
All things Landau for me for now, legend! Thanks for accommodating! (And yeah, how confusing could a green box, multiple brands, multiple types, and multiple internals be???). Yours, D
Today I was thinking about picking up the Geisha Drive and thought "you know what I bet an SD-9 could kinda do an HM2 thing" - and here you are haha. Thanks for the "Beyond Landau" section confirming I'm not (too) crazy. Now I can double dip some Slaughter of the Soul and Tales From the Bulge on one pedal, as all sane people do.
I've had one of those, the extra mids & turbo gain switches are super useful into a clean amp. You can get a similar sound by stacking a Boss SD-1 into the SD9.
Landau fan club checking in!
Maybe I'm just tripping, but didn't Steve Vai in the early 90's use a Ibanez SD-9? If not, it sure sounds like he could have!
@@JoshuaSimonson909 Steve used a DS-1 back in the day but I agree he could’ve used this too to great effect no pun intended! 😂
He ALSO used a SD-1 when he was with Alcatraz apparently just for the record but the DS-1 was what Satriani and Vai used WAY back in the day.
Amazing tones! You make the best faces when it gets really greasy!
It's all in the face
@@LeonTodd Bit like English on the cue ball... Erm, is it called English down under?
SD9 is a killer pedal! Midrangy and uncompressed. Used it as a main overdrive pedal for live shows for years
It's amazing what that pedal does with the humbuckers of the PRS. Great metal tone.
I enjoyed what I heard of the PRS through that, but I think that pedal was made for Strat/single-coils. So organic and expressive. Pairing it with the Swollen Pickle was extra juicy. Bad pun intended.
Shoutout to Warren, incredible player. Aurora Borealis is one of my favourite songs. Wish more people knew of his music.
Super glad you're getting some good use (and tones) from it, just realised it was my 4th SD9 ;-). Couldn't have gone to a better dude!
Now I just need to find an octafuzz to stack with it!
@@LeonTodd That's another can of fun. So is the Roger Mayer Voodoo-1 and Boss SD-1.

Green - Tubescreamer
Other green - Nobels
Other other green - SD9

Hey Leon. This pedal is an absolute gem! My go to boost in the Helix Ecosystem. (Hedgehog D9). Scott Henderson Tones for days.

Bonus, the Fractal "Sonic Drive" model in the Drive Block, models this little gem...
Sounds bang on too!
Is that a copy of Ibanez tuben screamer TS-9? I've got one from Earl -80's
Maxon made the original Tubescreamers for Ibanez. This is a different circuit.
my hotcake lol. you tried a prunes and custard fuzz that he makes? pretty cool pedal.
had to buy the prunes after the HC - I've got a vid with it here!
KEEP USING THOSE 85/15'S LOEN!!!! They will change you!! alnico II are amazing!!!
Love them
Hey buddy. How about Friedman overdrive pedals ???? Yes or no ?? I see some for sale here in the US. ✌️✌️🎸🎸
Yet to try the BE-OD!
@@LeonTodd thanks that was what I was thinking 👍💯👋👋🎸
Have had a couple, I think they are excellent . The "Tight" control is very very useful.
Subscribing… i seen a few videos and this guy is a great player and even better reviewer
This sounds like a fried egg sunny side up, with a runny yolk.
Exactly how I like my eggs!
For some reason no one talks about ibanez sd9m which much more usable version of sd9

Story of guitarists life - find (not) a tubescreamer, which will fit
Right?!
