I have massive respect for VVD, but I cannot help myself when people (mostly pundits) put him on pedestal like he is the best CB in premier league era. For me (in my subjective look) he is nowhere near Tony Adams, John Terry, Carvalho, Vidić or even likes of Campell,Kompany… they were more consistent through the years
People quickly forget Haaland missed 7 Premier League matches this season through injury and has missed two months worth of matches this season. His 38 goals and 6 assists in 43 matches is still seriously impressive. The knock against Haaland this season is his conversion rate has decreased and his big chances missed increased. Realistically, Watkins outperformed his expectations while Haaland underperformed his. Which just goes to show how off the charts Haaland really is. Another tidbit that most people look past is that Haaland’s loss of form not only coincided with him coming back from being out injured for two months but he also lost a family member at right around the same time he returned to City in early February. Pep mentioned that Haaland was struggling with the loss behind the scenes and people forget he’s still only 23. So dealing with loss at that age can still be very raw. Just a little more perspective because people very often forget players are human too off the pitch.
💯 it's crazy how someone can so called under perform and have stats still better than the best in the league, people like Danny Murphy expectations of Haaland is way too high he can't score 50 every season and tbh who in prem history has even got Haaland numbers he got last season? I'll wait!!!! They're judging the boy because his numbers aren't off the chart it's crazy.

Like I said in my original post, he’s overperformed his expectations while Haaland has underperformed his. But the ridiculous thing is Haaland not only missed two months of action but still has two matches to go. He will very likely end up scoring 40 goals or more in a “bad season” for him. Which is ridiculously off the charts.

True. The reality is Haaland is destroying Premier League goal scoring records at a ridiculous rate. His 63 goals in 65 league matches is completely off the charts. His 0.97 goals per match ratio is not remotely comparable to any other top scorer in league history. 1. Shearer (0.59), 2. Kane (0.67), 3. Rooney (0.42), 4. Cole (0.45), 5. Aguero (0.67), 6. Lampard (0.29), 7. Henry (0.68), 8. Fowler (0.43), 9. Defoe (0.33), 10. Salah (0.60) Those are the Top 10 All time goals scorers in Premier League history with their goals per match ratio. Haaland is not only on a completely different level but will destroy Shearer’s record if he actually stays in England for his entire career.

I think the main reason is our midfield. He is exposed far more often due to our poor protection from midfield, especially our lack of a top quality CDM.

Haaland - 27 goals (7 penalties), 5 assists, 32 total goal contributions.
Watkins 1 less non-penalty goal, 8 more assists and has led Villa to champions league football. Anyone who is outraged at the consideration of Watkins over Haaland is a complete braindead clown.

The TOTAL number of goals that ManCity scores is not going to be increased because Haaland is there. He just takes away the number of goals his teammates could have scored.
English fans and a lot of casual fans overrate G/A and efficiency. They forget that where do G/A comes from. They are from build up play. If you have a high G/A but you don’t have much build up play contribution, it means that you are just taking the G/A from your teammates, because the TOTAL overall G/A of your TEAM, won’t increase if you don’t add more build up play into it.

If Haaland was not there, ManCity’s tiki taka play would be so much more dangerous, they would play like they have 16 players constantly swapping positions, creating a lot more and much higher quality chances, scoring more goals as a result. Without Haaland, they would have easily won 4-0.
They create a lot less and lower quality chances when Haaland is playing.
What is it with English fans. The moment an English player scores a few goals, or creates a few chances, he's compared to prime Messi and Ronaldo. Fact is, Watkins had a decent season but is hardly top class anymore than Rashford, Dele Ali, Lingard, Grealish, Barkley, Sterling or any other player the unintelligent fan and media push forward.

It's funny how Simon says that pochettino did not make any sense but then when it was his turn to speak on the subject he didn't say anything that made any sense himself.
If I understood correctly, Pochettino basically said that this season was not up to Chelsea's historic standards as a club, but considering all the circumstances, the season was a success. I don't know what was so hard to understand about that to say that nothing he said made sense.

Ollie Watkins has scored 27 goals this season in all competitions and 13 assists. That's 40 goal involvements and he doesn't take penalties, he also doesn't get the amount of service that Erling Haaland receives. Haaland's an exceptional striker but i think Watkins has had a better season than Haaland 🦁

Haaland is an average footballer and a great goal scorer, but Zidane arguably scored greater goals i.e. the goal against Leverkusen in the Champions League final being one. That's how I look at it tbh.

Did you not watch Ramsdale last season? Let alone his last appearance this season against Brentford? The biggest problems with Ramsdale are he loses concentration, doesn’t claim crosses, and is not great with the ball at his feet. Whether Raya stays in the long term or not, he has shown that Arsenal need a keeper that can dominate the box and play very well with their feet, in addition to making saves. Arsenal’s goals allowed per match dropped from 1.13 under Ramsdale to .62 with Raya. You can’t ignore that.

Van Dijk is so overrated, Liverpool bottled the league not just because they weren't scoring but also they conceded a lot of goals against mediocre teams. Van Den Ven & maybe Gabriel should be the 2 CB of the season.

This is an embarrassment of a football knowledge. How can he possibly consider destiny in this season when he’s only kept 2 clean sheets and has 40 goals conceded he’s had 3 goals in mistakes and commits a huge amount of fouls. Compared to the numbers that have been made by Gusto who has more goals assists the same amount of clean sheets and has half the goals conceded. The fact that he has picked two players from a treble winning team that is gonna probably win the double this season is a joke in itself. He said olegaurd has the same amount of goal/assits as KDB in double the amount of games he’s well behind Saka and the inclusion of VVD says it all.
