- Today, let's talk about the most overpowered support item to ever exist in league of legends. This item broke the balance of the game, broke the patch notes, and broke op champs into being impossible for league of legends to balance. Many low elo players could win with these champions and supports such as Janna, Nami, Sona, Soraka, Lulu, and Morgana could easily build Ardent Censer and 1v9 ranked games to climb ELO. @@cozmorules6983 as a rule of thumb most people don't realise that ohmwrecker is actually really good due to the tower reseting the shot counter on you so the shots do less dmg again so if you a character like mundo you can latterly run anyone and I do mean anyone under tower because if the tower starts to hurt ohmwrecker it and now its back to not hurting anymore XD

I still think one of the main reasons Ohmwrecker wasn't good, was because it gave tanky stats (and not even much tbh) If it had been designed to be a damage item, I think it could've actually been broken. (Remember, one of the main reasons akali was so insanely broken when she was reworked, was because her shroud allowed her to dive you without barely any consequences, so if she ever got ahead, you might as well just not play the game.) Now imagine that, but every assassin can do it?
Imagine a kha'zix lvl 6 when your twitch jungle is level 3 (you know what happened) and khazix can literally just walk up to you under tower while there is no minions? It would basically be a Jojo meme.

Agreed. Ardent Censer was absolute crap on release. Used to only be a fringe Sona or other multiple shield character item.

I think its more controversial that it took 3 years for people to do the math on the original S4 support items and realize that they were the BiS ADC starting items, expecially relic shield which upgraded into something like the 3rd overal tank item in the game, while paying for itself and funneling free gold into your co-laner.

i remember when i was still really new, had only been playing a handful of games a month. picked up soraka, really only bought the recommended items, didn't even know what ardent was. got into a lobby and my adc made a comment in pregame: 'raka is so op, you can build whatever you want just get ardent first item and we'll win'. sure enough, bought it, won lane > won game. Bought it every game after that, and my winrate absolutely skyrocketed. that was when i really started getting into league, started enjoying it, and was actually useful at my cute little level 14 'what the heck is going on' stage. ardent is still one of my favorite items to take on janna and soraka, though it's not an absolute requirement anymore. from the perspective of someone who *wasnt* an adc, i can absolutely understand why it was hated so much, but boy am i glad the ardent meta happened, or i wouldn't have made any of the friends i have over the last few years without it to really pull me into the game.
Yeah, when ardent meta came, i was pretty new too and didnt understand anything. I picked up soraka because i really liked healing and then ardent because it looked cool. And had fun with it, but then the meta of it came appearently. I didnt rlly notice it tho, prob cuz i still had no idea what was happening lol.

Zoe is like old nidalee but on steroids. She has cc for days, long range poke with low cd, mobility with her ulti, empowered aa with passive, extra summoner spell/items with her 2nd skill.. End of discussion.
Zoe pre nerf could do the "Nidalee" to tanks and squishys, it didn't matter the target, it only mattered your ability to do 1 simple combo over and over again
having to learn 1 combo is easier than having to learn how to evaluate the situation live and aim in between tanks

I used to play support a lot in my earlier League days, when the Ardent meta came I was so happy that my role was finally recognized as a threat. Among the broken bruisers, assassins and other meta's to follow and predate, it was the the most unexpected and fun bombshell I've experienced.
It's actually really fun to watch the history of support items because their build is the one that changed the most.
Yeah, top, mid, tank, adc...nothing can compare to support.
Back in time they just build gold generation and unlimited wards (when there was no limit).
Then we reach the time of the video with sightstone+trinket upgrade+other op support item if you have gold.
We had the ardent censer age.
Now they are in line with jungler, they have ONE core item (which give gold generation+wards) to build and they are free to build what they want after.
I'm really liking this iconic items series, keep up the good work!

I had some fun with Janna, rushing ardent and then redemption. For runes (iirc) I had something that gave heals when you attack impaired targets. So everything Janna did proqued Ardent.
Ah good ol days on botlane when you trade, back off, heal to full hp after just 1 wave thanks to double relic and usually with heal from supp. Never trade again, just farm and farm. 10/10 would farm again.

ADC still say "I was so weak during this time"
Adc's were cruisers in that meta. You would build stericks and be unlikable, but damage was much lower than it would be in a standard build, and the while landing phase felt like a wet noodle farm simulator. Honestly it was the second worst meta to play adc's imo, but they were strong.
You have to have a PhD in bitching and reddit posting to be an ADC.
As as support main, I can confirm that adcs were not strong. No adc should have been nerfed at all during that time. It was the supports that were busted. No matter how stupid your adc was, if you were decent at Janna, got Censer and maybe half a Redemption and you 1v9ed that game. Your adc can afk during a teamfight with autoattacks on, and you could keep him alive until he got a pentakill. I used to duoqueue with a friend who was a Kat main and we played Rakan-Kat (gunblade into ad items, not even ap Kat) in bot lane and we had an 80% wr on that because I could engage to give Kat a way in, shield her with my e giving her Censer and she could not die. It was the most stupid meta I've ever played (and of course my favorite, since I got to enjoy the game a lot more than nowadays), enchanters were busted, not adcs
They were weak, just supports were strong and were covering adc weakness.
So, adc had no weaknesses right? So does that mean they were strong? Because supports litterally says, fuck it, you'll never reach the truth. And then they remove their adc's death, and their adc's mistake as well.

7:04, the total value of stats in a final item being significantly higher then the items cost is completely normal. Ardent maybe a bit higher in relative efficiency then others but consider the role it went to and that the ally buffs were both temporary and were only significant on particular allies with attack speed builds.
Both Janna & censor were overtuned for almost 2 seasons but players couldn't believe a support carries that hard, so ss7 worlds they learned it the hard way

I remember back in season 5, when I just started out and played Sona, I always built ardent because I saw attackspeed the most valuable.
I never tried redemption when it got released and stuck to my ardent, then the ardent meta happened. I felt guilty following others with the the ardent.

with all the seriousness jungle during a lot of the time is incredably underpowered, because to be remotly useful as a jungle you need at least one winning lane and that means that it's fully reliant on OTHER players wich is quite an unfair way to make people play the game if you ask me
@@anubis9151 The point is though your 1 winning lane will turn into a winning game if you have a good jungler to help them snowball. Plus a good jungle will turn a neutral lane into a winning lane.

Jungler is the general and support is the capitain of the team. Better jungler wins and better support can save you from a bad jungler sometimes(and turn a mediocre jungler into a good one). If the support and the jungler are bad don't matter how fed the other 3 are.

Im happy to see that now, after Enchanters were punched into the ground and Yuumi overtook all they do, Riot implemented shieldbusters to balance out whats already balanced.
Its literally only Yuumi, Pyke und Lux down here in low elo.
And thresh with blizz. Hooking is too much prevalent and powerfull, it can stop engage dead in tracks, zoning and get hooked is death sentence also its not easy get them out of lane. Whole supporting devolved from keep alive to CC fiesta and we get yuumi champion easy to use who can ignore these cc bots.

As a "tank" support main, l can definitely say that ardent meta was one of the most horrible I experienced.
I just could not play my favorite champions such as Alistar, Braum or Tahm, because these 4 supports that were Janna Lulu Sona and Soraka became monsters at the moment they bought this single item...

Can't say the current meta is much better. Enchanter supports are crap now. It's all about hard CC and tankiness. Leona, Nautilus, Blitzcrank and Pyke are pretty much the only viable supports nowadays. Except for Senna. She's the only non-CC support on the list because she's new and thus OP.

Gr8 video ! As a top laner, that was the most frstrating time to play. I was allways winning my lane but i got used to : "my bot lost, so i'll lose the game". But I'm glad that the meta changed. In my opinion the actual meta is the most fun meta. Brusiers top, playing fun matchups, and playmakers supports. It doesn't feel like if you're not an adc main you can't win anymore. Next video go for the tank akali and tank ekko and tank anything else !
Ahhh ardent censor meta was a great time for me. I remember playing sona and just pressing w to go from gold to plat real quick. Free lp will always mean a good time to me even if the game is extremely imbalanced.

The release of Ardent Censer was exactly why I started playing Nami - it went very well with her kit overall. I got so much shit early on for building it, so when it became OP as hell, it was admittedly very satisfying to curb stomp people with the item I used to be mocked for building because it was considered a "waste of gold."
Such a satisfying yet frustrating meta.
I honestly believe that after all these problems season 8\9 are the best in lol history.
Season 9 is currently the most balanced with many different strategies being played but no "do it or lose".
Season 8 was terrible for pure adc players (that cried like babies, especially the streamers) but i love the fact that we saw mages and bruisers being played botlane.
its really not balanced. watch a competitive game its the same champs getting picked over and over again, same thing with high elo. just because a few cheese strategies have shown doesn't make it strategically diverse especially considering they were cancerous and typically required coordinated play (ie not solo q / 99.999% of games)
source: played since s1, the theme of s9 is just no more tanks
@@ChamplooMusashi Yeah, this season isnt a "abuse this one strategy to win more" but more of a "abuse this pick until it gets gutted next patch" tbh. Competitive play has had some negative impact over solo queue, where unhealthy champions in pro were nerfed, making them unplayable in solo q and ruining the fun of plenty of fanbases. Just look at Akali, she wont die at peace. Kalista is still a dead adc with Kog Maw. And after changing Tamh and Aatrox, they were both nerfed af. Aatrox didnt suffer much, but Tamh is now just a dead toplaner.
As a support main I must say I hated the ardent meta was my most hated meta. So glad it's not what it used to be

@@ocelotwa2709 I honestly don't miss that meta, because it lasted for like 1.5 (7.2 - 8.12) years but i feel they overtuned enchanters and defensive play in general, specially on Pre S-10, the time i quit the game due to basically making unviable the strategy of being patient.

The problem with passive supports is they're not fun. Either they ARE able to heal/shield through the enemy damage, in which case it's no fun for the enemy. Or they AREN'T in which case it's no fun for the player.
Well there is one pretty hard and fun to play ardent and that is Rakan, but he is only one

After that came the lethality meta, where every game was stacked with ad assassins oneshotting everybody and in the bot lane only lethality mf and varus where viable and really unfun to play against.
Just saying so all those Rengar and zed players stop complaining about how bad the ardent meta was for them. At the end riot decides how they wanna fuck up their game

3:00 I remember playing support in seasons 7-8. The things I hated the most is how much I had to wait to get cool items. I played blitzcrack, and frozen gauntlet was really good on him for the manga and cdr. Unfortunately I had to first do a supp item, sightstone, upgrade sightstone, upgrade supp item again, boots and maybe upgrade boots before buying an item.
Looking back I would agree I was delaying my powerspike but as a supp I wanted to be as helpful as useful, so I bought the items even if it's no the best route. I am so happy with this change.

I used to main Janna for many years. That meta was obviously one of my favorit ever even though I didn't really play much anymore at that time.
Awesome watch. 2 important things to mention was that it wasn't just Leona. It was Fervor of Battle Leona. Also that they would funnel gold to supports via solo gold from tower kills which I found funny.

I always kinda liked Ardent from the get go because of the little perks, especially on Janna. Makes ya move faster than you already are, shield increased Atk speed AFTER the shield buffed atk, and just a nice little perk to her AOE heal
