I bet that was an incredible thing. I had the same experience but I was younger. I would just stare at the amazing cover art. As I grew older and realized what it was trying to convey, it became an even greater masterpiece in my mind. Cheers.
I helped a friend getting over a breakup with his girlfriend by playing "I'd Have You Any Time" for him over and over again. He'd been a lead guitarist in a rock band ("Rose") in Switzerland - and I believe his greatest guitar hero back then was Rory Gallagher as he kept on playing "Blister On the Moon." But it was with me he first discovered the soothing music of George Harrison. I believe he fell as deeply in love with ATMP as he had been with the girl. This was in the early 70's when we were still young - and this triple album was all new.
I’ve not picked this up yet, but it looks like the top tier treatment was given to the material. Can’t wait for the A/B comparison so I can really hear the differences. From this video alone, I could tell they Wah-Wah really sounded very bright - as that song really fell to some of the most “Wall of Sound” treatment from Spector. Great episode!
Excellent! You're remarks at the end regarding outtakes, alternates, etc. definitely struck a chord with me. From the days of scratchy bootlegs to CD reissues & box sets, I consider these "fly on the wall" tracks music gold, dramatically enhancing the listening experience over time. Otherwise, our favorite classics might start to sound just ordinary after 50 or 60 years. I still remember unboxing the original ATMP the week it was released, and haven't stopped listening to it since. Rock on!
My 8LP copy should arrive in the mail today. It will sit nicely alongside my Uber crate and 5CD/Blu-Ray super deluxe edition. The remix has received mixed reviews but there’s now different listening experiences available. Personally I think hearing some of the songs with the guitars and vocal more centred is how George probably wanted it to sound. He did indicate this toward the end of his life. Well done Dhani Harrison and Paul Hicks.
One of my favorite albums of all time. I grew up listening to dad's original vinyl copy. I play "Run Of the Mill" almost every time I play my acoustic guitar. ..and I have "Beware of Darkness" tattooed on my chest.
This was my choice for the 50th anniversary. Overall, I’m extremely pleased & impressed with this collection. Believe this collection definitely needs to be heard on vinyl. Appreciate your overview of this amazing album(s).
An astounding presentation indeed. It's evident that a lot of work has been put into the making of this project. I'm tempted to get myself a copy.... Thank you for such an excellent review. 👍👍
Just got my 8 lp ATMP in mail yesterday. What a beautiful package indeed. I love the warmth of the new remix on the vinyl. Expensive but worth it. Can't wait to get your review of the new remix.
I picked up the 3CD version and I was extremely satisfied with it. It all comes in a mini-replica of the original LP packaging and feels really nice. The new mix sound amazing and although the outtakes weren't as thorough as the bigger versions it's still a great selection of highlights. I've always had a bit of an interest in the development and the creation of multiple pieces of media whether it be music or something more out there like operating systems so listening to these outtakes and hearing these incomplete versions of songs I'm already familiar with is so cool to me. Overall a great release and I'm so glad I bought it.
I hope this re-release brings some attention to the Apple Jams. They are super fun and in the song Out of the Blue is wonderfully developed piece of music.
Took you a while to get it , yet I do no like watching other unboxing videos if they are not coming from your channel . Love your channel ! Great video ...as always.
I got the standard (budget 😅) edition, and I absolutely love it. I always remember a video of George talking about how he felt tempted to make new mixes of this album, and I longed for it! Phil Spector was a great producer, but I always felt some of the tracks were a bit overproduced, de-emphasizing George’s profound lyrics. Paul Hicks did a great job!
Got original former Yugoslavia gatefold pressing,no " Apple Jam," post cards and no poster. So," special," edition. John Heaton made video about it,if someone is interested to see how it looks like. And it is on green "Apple," label.
Creating needs I didn't think of!! My Aunt gave me her's that's in absolute mint condition!! It would be nice to retire it to collector duty and play the new one instead!!
I actually prefer the original sleeves, because the vintage copy I have is flatter, so it’s easier to read the lyrics. The 2020 sleeves are slightly rough, but not that bad. I doubt I would even notice without a vintage one to compare it to. But, sonically, I much prefer the remix. It doesn’t sound so murky and overloaded with reverb and the infamous “wall of sound”.
I have the 3cd version and although it’s great it misses the bonus tracks from cd 1 on the 2001 remaster. I know they weren’t on the original album but it seems silly that they’re not to be found even on the super deluxe edition. The de Spector effect is amazing though. Can hear each instrument so much more clearly.
Mainly Bobby Whitlock throwing a temper tantrum because he thinks he has some custodial duty over the album since George’s death, but forgets that he was one of many musicians who played on the album
@@thomsboys77 I believe that he was complaining about that they had got some of the credits wrong and that were incomplete. Bobby Whitlock said that at least on some tracks Gary Wright was given the credits for his contributions. Pluss, he didn't like the new mixes - and called them "horrible" !
Will check but looks like one of the pics showed Billy Preston. Also would be interesting to do a compare/contrast to the actual 71 release. Good stuff.
Got the Uber box 📦 absolutely love it, my only slight negative (apart from the obvious with the price lol), is the 3 LP boxset and the 5 LP boxset are separate in each side of the Uber box so don’t get the nice box that the 2 slip into with the 8 LP set.
Got the 8LP set and I'm mostly pretty happy with it, I think I'm just a little disapointed that the 2017 George Harrison box set was pretty much perfect and with this one I had minor warping across most of the Demos box. Seems like quite a lot of people had warping issues which I never seemed to have in the past with new Vinyl though recently Flaming Pie had a warped disc, the 50th of Ram was warped and a Dylan album was warped though Egypt Station and McCartney III were perfect. I kind of wish they included the full 90ish book with the 8LP set as well instead of a seperate 76 page book.
My wife bought me the Uber edition as a 20th anniversary present. I love it. With regards to the remixes, I’ve listened several times and I heard so much I hadn’t heard before. For that reason I’m glad I have it. However, on balance I think I prefer the original mix. The new mix sometimes has George’s vocal too far up front, separating him too much from the music. I also think some decisions made were not great, such as bringing the ‘early’ mellotron up front at the start of the instrumental break in Isn’t It A Pity (version 2) - it’s very deep down on the original, and adds to the musical tapestry, but the new mix makes it sound like a mistake.
I enjoy your videos. Great presentation of a great album. I bought the original when it came out. I was slightly disappointed way back then (Phil Spector versus George Martin, blues rock musicians versus JP&R), but eventually I came to terms with this album on its own terms (if you'll forgive my momentary lapse of style) and love it. I would have liked some more information on the sound, however. How does it compare to the original? Is it less compressed than the CD edition? But maybe your aim and intention was just to make us appreciate the lavish presentation of this majestic box. - - Keep going!
I've never quite understood why some people prefer to keep the shrink wrap on their records. Then again, I don't really treat my records as collectibles.
I got the 8lp set too but had a little bit of quality control issues… the back of the original album case was a bit scuffed up, the front of the 5lp demos box was scuffed, and one of the vinyl sleeves was ripped on the side. A bit disappointing for a vinyl set that $200….
The back of my 3xLP set was scratched a bit as well - I got $20 off from the seller though. A little black sharpie covered it up nicely. My biggest gripe is that the vinyl was pressed at GZ.
Just curious... is the inner box of your late '70s pressing orange or white? I have a white inner box for my original and always wondered if it was just a later pressing. I got the 8 lp super deluxe as well and it is amazing!
One of the few people I know who's as ballsy (or dumb) as I am and uses copyrighted music that will constantly get claimed. We're never going to make money on our videos lol.
But at least 8 of the songs sounds as if they are coming from the "All Things..." album : "Try Some Buy Some" - "The Light That Has Lighted the World" - "The Day the World Gets 'Round" - "Who Can See It" - "That Is All" - "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth) - "Be Here Now" and "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long." My thoughts on hearing it for the first time was that if it had been included with the ATMP album instead of the "Apple Jam" disc - it would have made ATMP a triple album for real. To me, there are only 2 weak songs on LITMW : the title track and "Sue Me, Sue You Blues" - just like I think that the ATMP also has got 2 weak ones : "Let It Down" & "I Dig Love." To me they just sounds like fillers.
I heard the background music of the original album on the video. They done sucked the reverb out of the record. And people are all over this remix crap?
