It's results like these that are the reason that I love the Pro photographer/cheap camera challenges. Too many times I have seen clients and the general public judge a photographer by the camera they use. This series demonstrates that the photographer makes the difference. These are awesome photos!
Sgt. Esposito literally what is your problem? Every comment where someone compliments the photographer you call them a creep, do you just hate all heterosexual men?
Ricardo Reyes Only thing with the Phillip Bloom bit (and the barbie doll camera was that he used blockbusting software in post - still brilliant though!
Somehow what you say doesnt makes sense ... you are saying it doesnt need a good camera to take good pictures but if you have a good camera a noob could easily take good pictures with it? a noob wont take good pictures apart from good image quality (sharper, higher resolution) of course
A beginner might take a good picture. First, some people have natural talent to figuring out good scenes, a second, a random shot might produce good results.
He didn't get offended, he laughed arrogantly cause he thinks he's untouchable. - Seems paparazzi inspired. I bet that's what he does; Chase high profile people and try to sell it to press.
Lara did a great job with this utterly crap camera, shots came out pretty nice considering. More than just a pretty face for sure, some nice insight and creativity! Too bad she didn't take any selfies with this camera though.

Piotr Kosewski One of the most infuriating things to see as a designer and amateur photographer is when folk use a DSLR then process it to look like it was taken on some $10 Lomo camera, cropped to square then put on god damn Instagram where it absolutely annihilates whatever remaining quality it had.
Andi X I think he meant that, they add so much processing that it makes even the high quality image from the a7 look as bad as the ones from this 0.3mp camera.
she is gorgeous and also so nice!! like shes so open with the challenge she wasnt annoyed that she was rushing for her flight or about the camera, she was very helpful in guiding the model the photos looked really good given the crap camera xD
Not only were those photos at the end pretty damn good, but holy shit she is absolutely drop dead gorgeous...like...how on earth can someone be that beautiful?
amazing photographer. the photos she produced look absolutely amazing. I love how she use some of the background arts to enhanced the model. the glass lens look amazing. love it
She is very calm and keeping the attitude postive all the time despite any challenge she had; like she didnt make it such a big excuse. Such a pro tog!!!
The strength of Lara's artistic vision comes through clearly in the results, even and perhaps especially because of the comically low resolution of the toy camera. Her coordination with the model and stylist to leverage the full potential of the team and her straightforward location scouting in a challenging and unfamiliar situation is a masterclass in no-excuses, professional execution.
These cameras are so bad it ruins the video. I get the cheap camera idea but come on, at least make it a nice P&S. I would love to see what kind of magic she could do with a sony rx-100.
Loved this! Lara is so talented and amazing. I've been a fan of her work since I first discovered her gorgeous self portraits in 2004 on deviantArt. It is inspiring and amazing to see how far she has come and how much her work has grown and evolved, along with her as an artist. Thanks for this awesome episode!
YES!! I also remember her from DA, and there was a guy she used to shoot with too that was pretty cool, they were both DA famous, hehe xD!! How funny that after all this years we still remember her from ALL the amazing work that flows around there, great she became so successful!!
I wish someone would look at me the way Lara looks into the viewfinder of the cheap camera at the end. Also Hello from 2024 im glad these videos are back up
Various points to learn from Lara Jade. 1. Learn how to see the lighting. 2. How she compliments the model or the background and vice versa (she mentioned it in the end, isn't she?) 3. Her communication with the model is actually very good, clear instruction, her conversation speed being not too slow, not too fast. 4. Composition, even if the subject is dead center, she still can get a very interesting picture.
I was flying back to see family for the holidays so it made sense to go that way (since I'm based in NY), it was a very quick trip to make it back to London in time. I know it sounds weird but there was a reason for it!
Haha, I don't doubt it. The concept just boggled my mind a little. Maybe I'll have to try this next time I go home, if only for an excuse to take my camera around Hong Kong.
***** of course I was already going to be in HK for this, but it was a quick trip.. I ended up getting sick and going home the next day but it worked :)
Lara Jade I loved how you took the pictures and the way you directed the model even with all those problems. It would be amazing if I saw more of you (tutorial style videos) here on TH-cam, or through some sort of TED talk about photography. Greetings from Mexico
I realize the point of this series is to show that it's not about the gear but what the photographer can do with what they have. But I wish the cameras weren't garbage, maybe like a point and shoot that is under $200.00 or very basic gear.
It's called challenge for a reason. For that money you get rid of all the problems that the camera has, the shitty resolution, light sensitivity/lens speed, shutter lag, and lack of flash are all things they need to work around. Also, these cameras are so terrible, that anyone watching can feel great about their own camera, even if they have a cheap point and shoot. It's a perverse look into the crap that people who don't know what they're buying, buy.
Lol the cameras actually use to be like that. If you go look at earlier pro tog cheap camera, they use to give out iPhones and point and shoots. I think the super crappy cameras started with Chase Jarvis, or was it the Strobist guy? Any ways, that's when they started giving out Lego cameras, Barbie cameras, and paper cameras. I think Kai has seen that these photographers can handle these super cheap cameras. And the series is Pro tog cheap camera, why not give them the cheapest camera that money can buy?
Agreed. A sub 100$ camera would be fine, but this is taking it a bit too far. I get it though. As most pro photographers know, with the right light and scene/model, you could actually make amazing and fully usable images with pretty much any point&shoot camera (no bokeh or MP of the pro DSLR's, but still good enough), and that's not something digitalrev wants to point out...
She's incredibly focused and detailed oriented. I was impressed at how she defined her set, owned it, and directed the model. As a photographer, I know the technical aspects like the back of my hand and only wish I had her comfort and proficiency with the subject matter. Her results were solid.
Awesome challenge...great work!! But seriously...how is there not a credit or link for the model or MUA here??? I'd really like to see more of this model's work (whoever she is) AND I really feel that it's only fair to give credit to ALL parties involved. TIA
Precisely my thoughts. Everyone's saying how great the photos she made are, but not a breath about the talented model, or the great team/wardrobe she had access to...
I loved her special effects.. the jar especially. I've been wanting to upgrade my camera but this shows that we don't always have to have the best camera to take really great shots. It's indeed the photographer and not the camera ! Well the camera alittle!
Don't forget the talented team she had working for her... Or that she got to pick any wardrobe she wanted from a top boutique... The photos were a team effort, and that model was top notch.
Are you sure this is a photographer? She could be a movie star or even a model! I mean such a beauty that loves photography! Couldn't be better, right?
Wow. That guy at 16:40. The sheer audacity to just nudge in and steal some shots... And then he gives that look like "how rude" after she messes with him. I am quite peeved.
CodeBlack404 I do think it was a little rude, but I don't really think he seemed peeved afterwards. You can even hear him giggle. Probably just didn't think she'd mess with him or something which is why he seemed a little confused.
I love this, because it shows so well that gear is allmost irrelevant. it's all about knowing how your gear works and having a subject that is nice to look at.
Am I the only one who got annoyed when she was doing to first picture of the last outfit and that guy just started taking photos with his professional camera and it's like he's stealing all her work of choosing the pose and spot...
I love how calm and in control she is. Shes also seems very humble and kind despite her popularity. I really like this Lara lady. gonna look up more of her work
Pradimtyo Mer Handipo I actually will take picture of other people's model but I won't stand too close to them because I know how irritating it gets to block the photographers way which always happen to me when I am supposed to be the main photographer.
A lot of people say that photography is not a talent and the camera does all the work... this goes to prove that it's not the camera that matters it's the talent and creativity that goes into it
Here's my impression of Lara Jade from this short view of a shoot with her; Pretty girl, sure, one of many, but I'm really impressed with her professionalism and dedication to get the shots she did with one of the worst cameras in this entire series. Her patience and willingness are what contributed to those results. She was also one of the most insightful in the series. - Great respect for her talent as a photographer and she definitely deserves her success.
ian9outof10 Yeah my wife says I am getting better I guess...I just don't seem to have an eye for it yet. I wrongly assumed that better kit meant better results, but that isn't strictly true.
Good equipment can certainly help. Also, I've found that most pros do a decent amount of post-production on shots. I, for example, am absolutely awful at getting shots straight. But Photoshop has a tool that corrects that either on raw import, or in the program. Also, shooting raw gives you tonnes more flexibility, it's staggering, so that's mostly what I rely on now. Anyway, photography is supposed to be fun, so as long as you're enjoying yourself the images will ultimately have value to you.
+ian9outof10 it took me about 2 years to " have an eye" for it. After lots of shooting, studying others etc. Yes, pros do post processing, but rule number one as a good photographer always to get a great shot first time in camera. The post processing 'only' will enhance an already good photograph. Not making a bad shot looks better
Lara Jade As a photographer you have to see it when it is there though. It is not only about the active composition but to see what is there. Great Job on that.
Lara Jade is hot, I wouldn't say she's a model though. Models need individuality, you can find pretty people (men or women) on any street, you need to look for something extra in a good model though.
At this stage of her career it's all too easy to let your crew set everything up, you turn up, take the photos and go to lunch, so it's great to see Lara being put on the spot and having to think for herself "you could say going back to her roots of photography". Nice One
Loving that she can maintain her professionalism in the face of a cheap camera lol.
She got more done with a toy camera than most people can get done with a Pro DSLR.
Daniel Jones being a photographer isn't about the equipment it's about your point of view on taking pictures
Daniel Jones shows how good her eye is
Yeah it sucks that our school's photography club only lets u in if u have a dslr but none of them even know how a histogram works.
Shadman Sudipto sounds like my school
Shadman Sudipto when I was in highschool we had a photography club and the kids loved to run around 'hunting pics'. One day I heard the instructor of that club laughed that none of the kids know how to use a dslr but its just nice to see how enthusiastic they are. Hopefully they'll learn the skills
Kai just keeps thinking, "Oh god she's so hot."
But unfortunately Kai is married.
To whom?
Don't know but he once said that he a married man
It's not only that's she's pretty, they share the same interests and have similar backgrounds (UK)?
Yup
She could be a model herself
she makes a lot of self portaits
Captain Obvious. But no, seriously, she is model quality herself. A lot of fashion moguls are butt ugly for some reason.
yep :P
jk12324 she is a photographer and a model.. check her Instagram. been following her work since 2013. she's one of my fav
what is her ID tho ?
she looks so pretty!!!

It's cool to see how the pros approach a spontaneous shoot.
Not to mention a few free pointers.....
CL4KFL Those were some scummy moves from the Guy that blocked her way actually, fuckin moron wants free pics lol
Next challenge: pro camera, amateur photographer vs cheap camera, pro photographer
Jorden Young yes plz
Jorden Young omg yes
damn, that'd be a good idea

They have a video like that now😊

Stegmutt haha
Stegmutt
very true.
It's the team that makes the photos... Get a super talented team, you'll get amazing photos, albeit you'll need some creativity!
those pictures actually looked really good! the low megapixel count made them look like something from the 50s or something.
kitsilanocat omg ikr i actually liked them😂
kitsilanocat literally scrolling down to see if someone actually liked it other than me :) I'm quite impressed as well
kitsilanocat I agree.
But i really think that 50s cameras were way better than this.
Those images were probably better than what I could do with a DSLR...I'm not sure if it's funny or sad! **LOL**
haha I gotta say the same
Good edition is key.

sadly funny lol

Her eyes are so bright, i can't concentrate myself. damn
Sgt. Esposito literally what is your problem? Every comment where someone compliments the photographer you call them a creep, do you just hate all heterosexual men?
^ It's not a compliment, it's passive internal masturbation they need to state on the internet because they're hoping to get a piece.
@@michaelangeloh.5383 How is this working?

You guys should do this with cinematographers and give them a cheap video camera.

those are some amazing shots
It's so amazing to see her so devoted in her work and she barely ever complained about her camera! Definitely an attitude worth learning from! =)
Totally in love with Lara Jade!

Can you do something like a "Bloody Beginner Photographer with Pro Camera" Challenge?
Would be awesome :)
I think beginners can randomly take a good picture, but they can hardly plan a good photo.

Lara looks a lot like Chloe Grace Moretz
Typical Bambi no
Alexandra Daddario No?
i was going to comment the same thing
Typical Bambi No.
Metyouinadream yes
All these videos prove (which is the intention I suppose) is that even with my $2,000 DSLR, I am really shit at photography...
Not shit man, you just need to spend time photographing things. It's all experience.
ian9outof10 Yeah my wife says I am getting better I guess...I just don't seem to have an eye for it yet.
Anyway, photography is supposed to be fun, so as long as you're enjoying yourself the images will ultimately have value to you.
ian9outof10 Oh I love it! I just have a low good:bad ratio lol
Damn I love the final shots :)
I blew the screen... Well played...
shes soo pretty!!! *_* her eyes got me like crazy!!
Creative, beautiful, driven. She makes for a good role model.
When the photographer is more beautiful than the model.
She has the most amazing eyes. Her work is awesome too, think I found a new fav ProTog to replace Chase Jarvis :p
Yeah I guess Kai is beautiful in his own way.
rolemodel4kids I thought Kai's modeling was pretty good if I do say so myself. Didn't even have to suggest any poses!
Lara Jade
As a photographer you have to see it when it is there though. It is not only about the active composition but to see what is there. Great Job on that.
Lara Jade is hot, I wouldn't say she's a model though. Models need individuality, you can find pretty people (men or women) on any street, you need to look for something extra in a good model though.
The shot with the drinking glass is pure wow.
Wow her eyes are beautiful. I can't stop looking into them
Definitely my favourite cheap camera video. Fashion shots definitely work with a cheap camera!
I love how she got super creative and never complained/made excuses because of the camera. Clearly she's a pro for a reason.
At this stage of her career it's all too easy to let your crew set everything up, you turn up, take the photos and go to lunch, so it's great to see Lara being put on the spot and having to think for herself "you could say going back to her roots of photography". Nice One
Possible the best looking woman I have seen onscreen or off-screen; Those eyes are an easy 10/10..
3:55 that car behind them is really nice.
it is an old mercedes SL
got a 300E, would love one of those SL's. Saw a maroon one today on my campus, looked sharp
Mustachioed Bear
What car?
An unreal photographer!!! amazing
she never waste an opportunity and really love the way she communicates with the model...if only i could join 1 of her workshops...
