This was extremely well done and explained. Showing every screw and every bolt in the disassembly process while identifying each part by name help to understand which part was which. Thank you for showing the process in real time with no fancy polished edits and music that detracts from the lesson. Very helpful! Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video so more of us can be empowered to fix things ourselves without any special experience or education. A++++
Another great video. Looks like you little guy has a good grip on tool usage. Love the way you patiently let him help and work around each other, that is a good dad!. That is what work should be! Again, Thanks.
I found a neighbor to come help me. There was way too much air in the intake lines. He flushed it with hose water and we let it run for a long time to get the air out. It finally started working again.. You were right about air getting in. Thank you so much for your help. I am slowly learning about pool care and your videos have been an great help. Thank you for checking, I appreciate it :)
My navigator was not moving, and I was able to fix it for $33 with the kit I bought on Amazon, and with the help of your excellent instructional video. Thank you so very much. The kid is adorable too!!!!
New pool owner. Shotty pool guy. I’ve been saying the vacuum wasn’t working right for about 6 months. I watched your video and now it’s scooting along like a champion! Thank you!!
Thank you for the specific step by step video! As you said, it was the A frame kit that was bad. Once it was replaced the navigator is back on the job! Can’t thank you enough! 🎉
Very informative! I really appreciate you taking the time to help others with your videos. Nice that you let the little guy help as well. God bless you and your family!
feet will move but no moving at the bottom of pool ....this means the bearings /turbine is not in the notch as described by this guy ...he is good and helpful .....thanks
My Navigator had the same symptoms as you highlighted in the introduction, I followed the guidance in this video, purchased the kit and it totally fixed the problem. The instructions / tips made the procedure easy so thanks very much for an excellent and useful video. I would also point out that in my case, it was not obvious at all that the parts being replaced were excessively worn so it does go to show that the fits and clearances required for proper operation are very tight.
Excellent video and instructions!!! I rebuilt my pool cleaner exactly per your instructions and it works like new. Thanks for saving me ~$250 .vs. buying a new one. Also, compliments to your little helper too. Thank you!!!
Thanks just did mine, running great so far. appreciate your time in making this video, Pinch a Penny was not gonna pinch a penny for me they were gonna charge me $85.00 to do this and it cost me $38 00 for the kit online and it was here in 2 days. Gotta Love U-Tube! Have a great day from Spring Hill Florida
For mine, I found the bracket holding the A frames down in the center was completely missing. That comes with the A-frame/Turbine kit, as well as the screw, but I found the nut or bushing that it screws into was gone. After improvising that it worked great. Thanks for the video!
Your video was great! I bought the parts online ($40 cheaper than any pool stores in town)... AND saved the cost of having the pool place do it for me! So I think you saved me around $100!!!!!! Wow! I can't thank you enough! You ROCK!!!!! :D
dude, you are freaking awesome. I think i've shared your channel with everyone i know who has a pool. including my old pool guy who I had to let go. How you do this all one handed it awesome. well done.
Thanks for sharing. I was also about to go and buy another pool cleaner after giving it to the pool shop who said there was nothing wrong with it. Except it didn't move in the pool and when it did only went around in slow circles tangling the hose. Saw this video and replaced the turbine and A Frame and now its like a new one. Thanks again.
Thank you for posting this. It was extremely helpful in figuring out what was wrong with my cleaner and how to fix it inexpensively. My cleaner would move for about 2-3 minutes and then just stop moving. I was afraid it would burn out my pump. I thought I was going to have to buy a whole new one or at least take it in for a repair. I would rather do it myself if possible. Thanks again for your helpful video!! :)
Hey, I just did the rebuild of the A frame and turbine kit. Your Video directions are right on the money. Unit is working like new. Thank you so much for the Help. I got the kit from amazon too, saving money on home repairs is a good thing. Take care :)
I could not have made this repair without this video; thanks so much for the tips about how to flip over the main body without dumping out the tiny pieces, and how to ensure that the bearings are locked into the grooves so that they don't move. By the way, it IS possible to put the pods on backwards, and I managed to do it, believe it or not!
Super accurate instructions! I watched several others, your was the clearest and gave the best examples of why this fix was necessary. I really enjoyed the commentary from your trusty helper too!!
GREAT VIDEO! Thank you for keeping only what needs to be in the video I cant stand when people talk on and on and video every little thing they do, you kept only what was necessary!!
Dude thanks for the video man. I order the part and replace them with the instruction of your video. Work like champs....Save me couple hundreds to buy a brand new one....Thabks a tons bro Great video.
I search for a youtube video because i had to replace the pods and i found this one so i purchase the complete kit to do the A frame as well which i had done a few years ago, but it seems like every two years i need to replace parts. So i price out the kit at a national pool store and it would of been well over $200 for the kit plus cost of installation, i found the kit on amazon for $84 with your video i was able to do the repair in less than an hour and saved over $100 doing it myself. I wish i did this the last time i would of saved. I even had in quicken if i purchase the parts i would of save. Thanks you for the video.
Great vid. Love having the little helper around. Could have used a view that indicated whether the bearings faced in or out and sometimes the unit went out of view, but excellent instruction.....Saved me $85 in installation fees today!!!
thank you for posting this video. you saved me 350 dollars. i was going to buy a new one until i saw your video. the vac is working like new. bought the parts on amazon as suggested and all went swimmingly (pun intended). again, thank you.
Thanks!! You are my go-to for any of my pool issues - seriously, everything I do to take care of my pool I learned from your videos (when I first moved into my home 4 years ago, “pool school” from my local pool store left me terribly confused and scared of my pool). The only thing that still confounds me about this pool vac is that I can’t get it to climb back into the shallow end very often (it’s almost flukish). I’ve replaced just about everything in this machine except the gear box and I’ve increased the RPMs...still, it just hangs out in the deep end. It doesn’t climb my walls either, but I don’t know if that is part of the same problem with my machine or that my walls are too steep (I care much less about that then a clean pool bottom).
Thanks for the great feedback! It usually gets full coverage of a pool. Could be a speed issue. There is a dial in the frame with a speed control. You can find it shown in this video: th-cam.com/video/Sjw6wSMcIvI/w-d-xo.html
I'm following your BBB method. I took apart my aquabug a couple times and the A frame looked good, but wouldn't have known those can look ok BUT still be bad. thanks for the info.
I usually order the whole kit since just changing the A-frame (which you can buy separately) sometimes doesn't fix it since the turbine also gets worn out, though it isn't as obvious. It kinda warps a little so if you use your old turbine on just a new A-frame you might not get good results. I suggest Amazon as they usually have the best prices and are reputable.
Brilliant! Wish I had seen this before attempting the fix. Yes you guessed it the gearbox contents spread themselves on my patio! Trying to find a reassembly diagram for that now!
could be one or two things. The hoses were not laid out straight and were stored like a standard pool hose (rolled) which will make the cleaner go in circles due to the hoses. Simply lay them out in the Sun for a day or so and then reinsert them so that they are somewhat straight in the pool (some will still curve). Second, if one pod is loose it will not touch correctly on the pool bottom and thus go in circles. Take out the tabs and tighten the pods up a bit more. Let me know if that helps.
Hmm. Okay - are you sure there isn't anything stuck in the turbine like a rock or twig? Take the bottom plate off just to check it to make sure. I wonder if you have air getting into the system somewhere. Is their any air bubbles coming out of the return jets? Can you manually vacuum the pool without losing any suction?
My guess would be the bearings that lock in and hold the turbine came out of their slots. You will have to take it apart again and check that part. It happens. Just make sure they are locked in to the notches in the frame. If they are not it will stop working as you described as the turbine spins. If they are still in the notch when you ck it let me know and I can go over other possible causes. But that is the most likely cause.
Okay. Maybe there is an air leak in your system somewhere. The first place to check is the pump lid O-ring. Can you try hooking the navigator up to the skimmer or at a friends pool? I am pretty sure it works. Maybe a hose has a hole in it and air is getting in - while the cleaner is running pull it towards you and lift each hose out of the water to see if you hear any air.
Make sure the pods are on tight. That will also cause this to happen. And look at the pods where the shoes attach to make sure each one has a spring still attached. Sometimes the spring will come off. Let me know if that works.
Sounds like it. One side could be worn down more than the other. Once you get it moving if the hose still kinks up it gould be a gear problem also. But you won't til it is moving again. I also suggest taking the hoses apart and laying them in the Sun so they straighten up. So change this part 1st.
Awesome that is exactly my problem it is not moving. Can't beleive I took it to the pool store and paid to get it fixed only to come home with the same problem and when I took it back was told it is probably the suction on my pool not working for clogged. Paid pool guy to check pool suction and told me no problem with that, took it back to them and they say they look at it and insist it's fine and hand it back to me. Tired of being ripped off and lied to, so I bought the parts and going to learn how to maintenance my sweeper myself.
@@SPL Thanks, I got new wings, pods, A frame, trubine and shoes. After watching this over and over again and couple others and set up my table with my tools along with my phone with the video on to remind me of the steps. I made a few mishaps like not understanding left is not left with the vac is upside down not really a big deal, the thing that irritated me the most was when I put everything back together and I'm picking things up, I notice a piece of paper that came in the bag for the Turbine and it says to line up the notches in the plastic of the part that contains the bearings with the notch in the base unit.......of course I didn't have that information previously so I had to undo everything because I wasn't going to have gone to all this trouble to have this haunting me and it doesn't work so might as well take it apart again and make sure it is seated properly. Of couse it wasn't and it's kind of tricky trying to put it back together because you have to hold the bottom steady so it doesn't fall out of the notch it's not like it snaps in it's just laying there and any jarring it will fall out . I finally managed to put the big cover back on and put it back together again. That little tid bit would of been really helpful to know. Anyway, it's back together and it is moving just not as fast as it used to so I ordered new flaps and the little blue adjustment thing a ma jig for adjusting. I also ordered a presure gage tester so I can make sure my suction is where it needs to be. It's been a long process and I learned a lot in the process and that's always good and cheaper too. Not out of the woods altogether yet, but hopefully a couple more adjustments and home free.
Does the filter pressure up when you unplug the navigator or stay the same - or does the pressure drop when you hook up the navigator. Where do you have it connected too? The Skimmer or Side port?
Thank you for your very helpfull videos you have given me information on most everything pertaining to my swimming pool I have also saved a ton of money.
There should be a serial number on the unit. It has a one year warranty on parts and labor and I think a three year warranty on parts. You will just have to register the unit online with the serial number and you should be able to have Hayward warranty it out for you. Probably a local pool store is an authorized Warranty location. That happens once in a while with a new unit. Factory build defect.
That a frame doesn't look bad. The 4 bearings don't have spacers, and sometimes the bolts that connect the pods to the a frame get loose causing one side or both not to move when on the wall. Try taking the covers off and tightening the bolts first before replacing.
I noticed that my Hayward was moving slowly and it was lifting off the bottom of the pool, so I replaced the shoes and wings after asking the local pool company what might be the problem. They never mentioned replacing the A-frame or turbine; they told me that I it was a suction problem or too much water in my pool? I thought that I was going to have to buy a new vacuum until this video. Thank you!
Hi Thank you for your video. I did as instructed and the first day it worked like a champ. Now it is not working again. After replacing the turbine, what else could be the cause of it not moving?
I did this very repair and replaced the a frame and turbine after watching this video. It will still not move. I'm thinking the bottom is really worn down from the pebble tec I have. All replaceable parts have been re installed. Ive had it about 9 years so I guess its time for a new one and I'll keep the parts I just put in for when needed later.
Great videos. I have an aquastar starztruck and wondering if Hayward Navigator pool cleaner A frame and turbine parts kit compatible. Mine stopped working like on your video.
Hello, Thank you for taking the initiative in schooling us on DIY pool maintenance. As a single mom of 4 kids and a grad student, I greatly appreciate the savings you save me! Did I overlook the parts number to the A-frame/Turbine kit? I can't seem to see it posted other than what is shown on the video (AXV621DAT) is that correct? Thanks again!!
Hi thanks for the videio 👌. Quick help my moves however my vacuum hose is in the center of the poll and just stays there in the middle any advice? Thanks
I have it connected to the side port. I don't have a skimmer connector. I'm not too sure about the filter. I see water swirling under the cap at the pump either with or without the navigator. When the navigator stops moving less water is swirling under the cover and the navigator starts to lift off the bottom of the pool like it's floating
Well done and explained .I replaced the A-frame turbine but when I place the pool cleaner inside the pool and it it set on the floor stop moving again. Can you help me with this issue ?
@@SPL Yes,the bearing are in the plastic notch. Do you think that the problem is in the gears? All the part are moving good but when I touch the swing parts stop to moving.
Great info for a new pool owner like me. My pool is almost a year old but now my navigator tubes just get tangled up. I'm not sure what's going on. I untangle it and it keeps twisting itself up again. Any suggestions?
Lots of bubbles come out of the jets when I turn the pump on to check the cleaner. I try to get water into the hose before I connect the line. I don't have a manual vacuum so I can't answer that questions.
Thanks again for the video. I replaced A-frame, turbine and the feet. Unit is still not moving. It appears there is no suction under the unit. I removed the hose from the top of the unit there is definitely suction from the hose. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To - SPL thank you for your reply. I am getting good suction from the side port. Getting good suction at the end of the hose from the port to the cleaner. I feel zero suction from the bottom of the cleaner. Sorry to be a pain.
@@chrisparker9115 There has to be some kind f obstruction. If you stick your finger in the bottom with the pool running and cleaner submerged you should feel the suction.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To - SPL makes sense. I will disassemble the cleaner to see what I can find. I had planned on doing that anyway but I wanted to ask you first. Thank you for your replies and all your help!!!
Hi. I've found your videos incredibly helpful and I was hoping you help me with a problem I'm having with my Hayward Navigator. It used to climb the walls of my pool and do a more effective job with cleaning. After 5 years, it only makes it about a foot or two up the walls, before turning and coming back down. I've replaced the A-frame/turbines, wings and shoes and I haven't seen any difference in the performance. I'm going to replace the flaps next, but I'm running out of ideas. Do you know what I can do to get it to climb the walls again? Maybe a new leader hose? New Pods? Thanks for your help and expertise!
It's the flaps/ That is what creates the climbing ability. Before buying new ones try adjusting them. Near one of the pods you will see a little hole with a little aqua dial with Roman Numerals. Turn it up to III and see if it climbs better. If not replace the flaps and it should climb like in the old days.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 I've tried adjusting the flaps up to IIII, but it didn't really make a difference. I think the spring is just too loose at this point. I ordered new flaps so I'm looking forward to trying that. Thanks again for your help!!
I have a question, my I replaced the A frame and turbines on my aquabug bought July 2018. It moves faster but still has same problem of hesitating and stopping. It does not turn at all. Should I inspect the gear box or should I buy another kit? it appears there's a gear box and also a turbine kit.
OK, so I replaced the turbine and a-frame. I tried out the cleaner and it worked for about 5 minutes but it moved very slow then stopped. I pulled up the cleaner and the feet weren't moving. I let some air into the cleaner and the feet started again. After 5 minutes it stopped again. I checked the bearings and they are locked. Not sure what to do next, I hate to have to buy a new cleaner it's so expensive. Any suggestions?
Awesome video! I recently did this repair using your video and my cleaner ran great for a few day now its back to not really moving. Any ideas?? Thanks
It is possible that the turbine has come off it's marks inside the Navigator. Take it apart again and check to see that it is seated fine in those notches. Also make sure the pods are on tight.

Ah, Shucks. Thanks for the great compliment, you made my day.
hi,
great video! well explained! thanks for tip on procedure for replacing turbine
thank you !!! had to change an A frame and worked great !!!
👍
Thank you for your very helpfull videos you have given me information on most everything pertaining to my swimming pool I have also saved a ton of money.
👍
Fantastic job you do a great job teaching
Did you find a suction leak and is the cleaner still not running?
There should be a serial number on the unit. It has a one year warranty on parts and labor and I think a three year warranty on parts. You will just have to register the unit online with the serial number and you should be able to have Hayward warranty it out for you. Probably a local pool store is an authorized Warranty location. That happens once in a while with a new unit. Factory build defect.
That a frame doesn't look bad. The 4 bearings don't have spacers, and sometimes the bolts that connect the pods to the a frame get loose causing one side or both not to move when on the wall. Try taking the covers off and tightening the bolts first before replacing.
Thanks , worked a treat!!!
Nice info Excellent video great job. great helper. Thank You.
Could be worn out beyond repairing.
Great videos. I have an aquastar starztruck and wondering if Hayward Navigator pool cleaner A frame and turbine parts kit compatible. Mine stopped working like on your video.
100% vacuum looks like there is nothing wrong. However, this is the fix! Try to get original parts. It's worth it!!!
Hello,
Thank you for taking the initiative in schooling us on DIY pool maintenance. As a single mom of 4 kids and a grad student, I greatly appreciate the savings you save me! Did I overlook the parts number to the A-frame/Turbine kit? I can't seem to see it posted other than what is shown on the video (AXV621DAT) is that correct? Thanks again!!
Hayward AXV621DAT Pool Vac A-Frame/Turbine Kit - that is correct. $32.00 on Amazon right now ;). No problem. Good luck, and wow, you sound busy.
Very helpful video. However the demo of the vac working properly at the end was horrible. we barely got to see it move.

Is this cleaner supposed to be able to climb walls? This is a very helpful video thank you !
Well done and explained .I replaced the A-frame turbine but when I place the pool cleaner inside the pool and it it set on the floor stop moving again. Can you help me with this issue ?
Maybe make sure the bearings are in the plastic notches.
Try hosing off the swivel on top very well. Also, switch around the hose sections now as they may have a memory.
@@SPL thanks. I'll try it
great video fantastic job teaching!!
Thanks!
Make sure the suction at the side port or skimmer is adjusted accordingly. That sounds like the issue.
35 Bucks later. My robot works. Thanks a lot
I have a question, my I replaced the A frame and turbines on my aquabug bought July 2018. It moves faster but still has same problem of hesitating and stopping. It does not turn at all. Should I inspect the gear box or should I buy another kit? it appears there's a gear box and also a turbine kit.
Very helpful tips much appreciated
Good video- but what was the issue?i had mine for 2 yrs in Florida and the thing just stopped,I’m assuming the parts wear down!
Yes, that part just wears down from the constant motion.
I inserted a small plastic shim in the center on both sides of the shaft in the center(under the blue cover) and it took all the play out.
Nice!
Thanks a lot. Very helpful.
How do you know if the A frame is worn and needs replaced?
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 thanks for the reply. Turns out the pods were loose. Thanks!!
