  • Watch the making of this incredible 5-carat sapphire, 2-carat diamond ring by hand!
On this magical journey, Master Jeweler Gaston Rives, uses his amazing skill forging platinum into one of his stunning creations; a creation embellished with a 5-ct natural blue sapphire and two 1-ct VS1 and VS2 side diamonds. All precious stones were cushion cut.
The best part is when the bride who ordered the ring picks it up in Miami and shows the ring maker her gratitude!

Here are the different sections of the video:
    00:09 Melting the platinum.
00:24 Forging the platinum to make the different parts of the ring.
01:00 Gluing the blue sapphire stone and two side diamonds to form the baskets.
02:43 Welding the baskets together and cutting the flat platinum piece to make the under gallery.
03:26 Forging and making the shank.
04:05 Welding the underneath gallery and baskets to the shank.
04:36 Cutting and molding under gallery including the hearts beneath the side stones.
06:07 Welding the 12 prongs to the ring.
07:25 Mounting the three precious stones on the ring.
08:22 Final ring and bride's reaction.

The levels of skill and craftsmanship are off the scale! Sapphire is my birthstone. Boy, would I love to have a ring like that made for me! I’m 64 soon so I could give my husband six years to save up enough money to have one for my 70th birthday! 😂😂

Many years ago, a craftsman took wax and carved it then casted it to make a wedding band to fit against my engagement ring. Now jewelers advertise their 3D printed custom jewelry. That ring is infinitely more precious to me because it was hand made.

The color of the sapphire is really refreshing. It's a cornflower blue, a shade highly prized. I tire so quickly of all the super-dark sapphires on the market. I never even liked the Princess Diana stone, now worn by Princess Catherine. Diana herself made a remark about her stone's too-deep shade. Of course, she was only 19 when she chose it from a tray of rings.

A great truth of apprenticeship is this: by the time the master has reached his peak, he begins to lose his sight and go downhill shortly after. If the master has not been training an apprentice by then, it is too late. He will have nothing to pass on and his craft will be lost forever. If he has invested his time and patience into a worthy apprentice, the apprentice will be better than the master eventually and praise his master throughout his own life and the recognition he receives. Then this process will continue to each apprentice as each becomes better than the one before. This is how it is supposed to work. No egos, only love for the craft until perfection is achieved. And why? What for? The story at the end. That is why.

Hi , all that you wrote is very nice but in the times that we are living sometimes it doesn’t work . I have two sons , they never care about what I was doing for living , they never wanted to fallow my footsteps . My daughter comes to work at the shop with my wife , she also don’t want to do this . I’m on my fourth apprentice . James Pyle is my last apprentice and he is serious about learning . This generation don’t want to work hard . I’m not the only one with this problem , all my colleagues have the same problems . There’s no more jewelers coming up . What we have now are thousands of Cad designers that don’t know anything about jewelry . I would love to see my apprentice surpass me . Thank You
