My guess is it blew a head gasket, they then replaced the head gasket with the MLS and never started it since. Machine the head new bearings rings and a hone, arp head studs and new MLS and your good to go. Could have been worse man! Enjoying the build!
Running E85 and not changing the oil every couple weeks. Water contaminates the oil as unburnt ethanol enters the oil and then attracts water. As a result, oil lubricity suffers and bearing wear is increased, with higher bearing temps. If it blew the HG it would have steam cleaned the piston(s) or bent rods, or pushed water out the side of the head.
Buying any short motor from Facebook cowboys, you get this . It's better to do a complete rebuild pull down now than after you install it for 500k and blow it up . While it's all getting done, put a set of bearings and rings . Maybe if you want rods and pistons as well . Call Paul at south side cylinder heads in yarraville. Done right the first time
mls head gaskets are an upgrade for a standard rebuild, wouldn't have needed head studs. there are o rings in the oil coolers that can fail, would replace them anyway
Rex if your going to keep the Skyline i assume yo spent coin painting it getting to look nice do your self a favour and just rebuild the motor so any mods you have planned you dont have to worry about it blowing up.... Keep up the great work.
G'day Rex, Great content. I also hope also be bringing some more content myself most days of the week to keep people happy and entertained. To make up from being a bit slack. I'm glad that you are keeping well. Yourself as for myself, not doing too bad, I have been a bit up-and-down but still hanging in there and trying to keep busy. Please do look after yourself. And I will catch up with you on the next one. Regards, William.
Keen to see how you go with engineering. I went through the process last year here in Vic. Would love you to document your journey on that. Mine was nuts!
I’m impressed Rex that you took the time to go in and remove everything ! Now’s the time to start collecting after market parts like nitto catalogue like headgasket oil restrictor, oil drain ect, trigger kits, high output alternator, baffle sump or extend, tomei cam gears There’s so much to do.! Hope it all works well, don’t rush it 😊
You’ve got it apart replace the bearings might as well do the rings give it a quick hone slap it back together unless you’re after Major power you don’t really need to do too much more. If you can’t feel it with your finger then it’s all good to go there is other way of testing, then just looking to talk strips. Will let you know how the health of your crank and Conrads bearings are going.
The rods in a neo are the same as gtr rods used in the rb26 so quite a bit stronger, the pistons were re designed to fix the premature ring land wear and they came with a N1 oil pump as standard. Weirdly some neo's came with the long nose crank most didn't but there have been some recorded with them. I would definitely do the crank collar upgrade while you are rebuilding it, engages on the oil pump alot better. good luck with it all.
Hey Rex! Go out and get a good quality drill hone to repair the cylinders, you should be able to just rent one. Do lots of research on how to do it and the cylinders should come out good. I hope this helps.
That engine is fine. I'd say it blew a head gasket and they threw in what they had (MLS) and haven't run it since. Those bearings are fine, its just normal wear for an old engine with high km. The left over sludge in the engine would have passed. Can't say for the bores. But while its apart may as well hine and throw rings and bearings at it.
For a channel like this, when things go bad that's good! "Rex" is the fearless fun-loving amateur, after all. The old "coolant in the oil" is a really bad sign, but hopefully the machine shop's report will be favorable.
Hope you get it running. I still have O2 sensor issues on my 2000 Camry LE 2.2L. I'm beginning to think the O2 sensor may have to be programmed into the computer. I've wasted so much money on O2 upstream sensors. Plus this latest I bought is actually for the Camry and it's narrowband. The computer is try to read it but can't for some reason. Never the less it's making me angry. I just want to get the engine to run like it's supposed too. I'm very much thinking about putting 17 X 8 custom rims on the Camry. Caleb has talked me into it. Caleb said no 18 inch rim. So what do you think?
Every week you say the same shit Here’s an idea take the car to a mechanic and get someone who knows what they are doing to fix it Tell Caleb I told him to go suck a big one and stop worrying about rims for your that doesn’t even run properly
Hey Rex dont stress i would have rebuilt this engine any way. Rather start with a reliable platform seeing as you have spent som much time and money on the body of the car
I'm a 'Do it once, do it right' kinda guy.. If you need to put it on hold for a while to raise funds, then do what you need to do. I personally wouldn't think twice about sending it away. Really good clean in the hot tank. Deck, Bore, Torque plate hone, Line hone, Fresh welch plugs. Rods, Pistons, PRP block brace, Oil pump upgrade, ACL race bearings, ARP hardware throughout. @Platinumracingproducts help an aussie battler out. What an epic collaboration it would be. @MotiveVideo
good video, my only feedback is have some caffeine before doing the voiceover haha. It felt like u were a bit low energy on the voice over for this video. hope u doin well
I reckon you’re being a little dramatic about it, don’t overthink to much, you’re building the motor anyway so it really doesn’t matter if some components are shit
😂😂😂😂 cheap doesn't mean it's running. hope you learnt your lesson now. but hey your starting from scratch so will be better when all is stripped and rebuilt.
Timing? ,, & draining OIL . PRO MARE # LIFTER IN A BOTTLE. Get block to machine shop...clean, measure...& do oil mod & oil pump. flush all cooling, assemble Stk gasket,, & skid
Dunny brush it, new rings and bearings, clean everything and assemble and go again, it will be right No oil changes is what my guess is, those bearings are ok considering, wouldn’t reuse but I’d say there original, gap the rings to 7tho to every inch of bore, plenty of movement when you screw the boost ✌🏻
Have the bottom end built professionally. Your way to inexperienced and youll just end up costing yourself more money when you blow it up and have it built anyways. RBs aren't your engine you learn on.
Start the video again bro, my YT does that, too. Just your sound glitched out for the video, exit the video, and just click on it again. It'll go back to normal
@@MicksMechanics yeah I keep seeing this happen with youtubers, they get good views on vids in the past, try make it a job and rekindle what they had, then get 3-5k views on each vid which definitely wouldn't make much money at all, and then they start dropping off

I said this exact thing to him last week
And he didnt listen 🤣🤣 fkem bro thats what he gets@@TURBOTRISTO

Engine teardowns are always, always interesting. Nicely done on a teardown and hypothisis as to why the engine ran hot.
You can fill the cylinders up with oil to bring up comp.

That background music has me feeling like I'm watching a Mark Rober video 1:55
There is also a Rb25 S0, those have Rb26 Rods as a De configuration. Which is sick.
Wish you the best with this 32 bro this is insane

Sr20det is gods motor mate haha, loving the build
The Garage is so neat now😍😍
finally some more r32 content nice bro
Surely you could build one functional engine out of 2 broken engines aslong as theyre the same kind right?

RB30DET Incoming
replace the rings and have the bores checked.
Dingle ball hone, new bearings and rings, skim the head - send it!
Dingle balls are garbage and warp cylinder sleeves.
Only use the straight stones for a quick glazing.
@@schafer240 if it out of round from wear, stone will leave a shitty uneven x pattern
@@st8jkt69 if the sleeve is that poor for that to happen, you shouldn't be honing it. Thats a full bore.
@schafer240 industry standard for a customer fair enough - but for a youtuber I'd send it. Comp test was good before.
Since your there upgrading pistons rods oil pick up basic upgrading while your in there bro
Let's goo another video!!
When lossening its the reverse of the tightening sequence.
You did it backwards.
wow man love your work
Moves freely so smooth the motor is fucked 😮 mate boat anchor ⚓️
Let's go 👌love this build bro

Head gasket went BANG
Need more vids on the chaser
Put a 3rz turbo in the skyline
good stuff
not you saying imma put alot of boost and spoiling a surprise for later when you add a huge turbo lol
Damn I was hoping to see it painted 😮
If adjustable cam gears it would be to advance and retard intake/exhaust overlap, if stock id say the belts stretched or skipped 👀
When’s the next meet? Been a long time tbh
seen more than five other vids on "rb" engines and none filmed clearly or simply like this.

Using tool pro from super cheap auto but sponsored by autobahn 🤦♂️😂👍
Brother get the crank balanced and nitetrated well it’s out
bearings were in ok shape for factory you wouldn't look too good after 20+ years spinning 6500rpm with 14 pound
nice man
Surely you’re putting a gtr bonnet on it?
gumtree is unoredictable lol, great vid
Was not expecting to see Jeremy Fragrance in a Rex H video 😂

At least there is not a massive hole in the side 👌

Neos are also solid head which is a win ! 🎉
Dingle ball hone, extended sump & Ross or ati balancer and send it
Please, when you get the motor assembled, please clean and paint everything that can be painted and cleaned. Make it right way :)

Lol the over reaction to everything. It's like you were trying to convince yourself to just go balls deep into the build.
On the BigTime channel they show in one of the vids how to install rod bearings and how to measure them. You can check that out
